HTC Schubert: Windows Phone 7 gets an aluminum unibody handset to call home? (video)
And the Windows Phone 7 leaks just keep on flowing. After that mysterious ASUS pre-production unit we saw late last week, today we're being treated to the first sighting of the HTC Schubert. Purportedly a device planned for "day one" of the WP7 revolution, the Schubert is said to have been built using a single piece of aluminum (just like the Legend) with plastic cutouts in the back allowing for that all-important wireless connectivity. Not much else is known for now -- hell, there's no way to even confirm this phone is who it says it is -- but the video's right after the break.

@TareG All WP7's have access to that colour scheme, it just defaults to white on black because it uses less battery life.
Now we can tell SPJ his phone has no style.
Looks nothing like an iPhone.
iPhone looks like a glass brick if you are into that sort of thing.
Played the video 6 times so far !
Now this is the HTC I know!
I hope this is the HTC low end model and they have a much better high end model with less bezel, a much larger screen, slimmer design, easy access to a micro memory card, both CDMA and GSM access and leaves the number pad up after I am connected so I can dial in an extension or so I can get routed through IVR when calling a business.
Does anyone have any idea of the screen size on this phone. How does it compare to the Droid X or the Evo...
@mdtauk You can tell from the video unless this person is about 7' tall that this has a much smaller screen than the DroidX or the EVO.
@mdtauk Yea, looks to me to be about 3.7 inches.
I love HTC...but I don't like the design for this...
HTC phones looks more beautiful every few months no matter what OS their using. HTC always intrigues me with their hard ware.
Idk about WP7 as an OS but that's some sexy hardware. HTC ftw!
Although this is by far the least ugly of the Windows 7 Phone handsets we've seen, it doesn't have the front facing camera the last one had. What's up with that?
@Seaniccus the LEAST UGLY?!
are you off your rocker?
@cataclysm
No way man. I mean, that top silver bit is pretty terrible, but the prototype: (http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/19/windows-phone-7-in-depth-preview/) is just dull and boring looking, and the ASUS pre-production (http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/08/10x0806ib2352315.jpg) has a hideous navigation bar on the bottom. Just look at that fat nav bar - and the windows button -yeeach.
I want the "phone" it was first advertised with, the mock up in the emulator. Except with a front facing camera.
@Seaniccus I'll agree it is a little less hideous than some of the other WP7 phones we've seen so far. I'm not sure if the hardware vendors hate MS or why they are coming out with such stingy designs.
I might be interested in WP7 if I could get something with a big screen like the EVO. However I'd like it without the camera protruding out of the EVO design - WTF - if I need a zoom photo lens, I'll bring a camera - I don't need a camera lens or a circular saw or electric shaver sticking out of my phone - I'd like my pda phone to be that - a PDA Phone, not a shopsmith mark 5, combination circular saw, lathe, belt sander, band saw...
OMG. it is SO UGLY.
honestly this better not be legit, or else HTC has lost their sense of design.
wtf is wrong with the back plate? those diagonals are killing my eyes
@TareG All WP7's have access to that colour scheme, it just defaults to white on black because it uses less battery life.
it looks nice but i'm still waiting for at least a 4" screen on an HTC WP7 device (hopefully 4.3"). i've decided i can do without a keyboard if need be based on my use habits with my TP2 now but it would be nice to have if they make one. haven't seen a physical keyboard on a phone with a screen that large though.
@SoCoolCurt Well the Epic has a 4 inch screen with a keyboard. I'd like to use that keyboard and see how it stacks up with the Touch Pro 2. That by far has the best physical qwerty keyboard on a phone that I've used.
@rayjones09
yea you are right. i forgot about the Epic. basically i'm looking for that or something similar with WP7.
hmm.. good design for an htc phone.. still theres something to be said for subtlety and the back of this phone is trying a bit too hard. if we're going for sexy design i'd say sony xperia10 or the iphone 4 wins with the nexus1 coming in close behind. they are simple, understated and elegant. just my opinion of course. :)
Looks pretty good. I can't wait for WP7 to come out.

Wow iphone killer!
Actually, Jobs killed the iphone himself...

Looks like iPhone
@Hostile4nexus Yea, looks kinda like a 3GS
S.e.x.y. Now, I'd rather have the back one-tone, or at least like N1 and not funky like that....
Looking good. I think I'll still want a physical keyboard, but for those that don't, this device looks very nice.
Looks nice. The front actually resembles the body style of the HTC Touch Pro2 (which I have), minus the slide out keyboard.
I am really hoping a Windows Phone 7 device with a slide out keyboard comes along from HTC... something of a successor to the Touch Pro3.
I am torn between holding out for a WP7 device or moving to Android. IMHO, Android still has a ways to go before I would consider it. However, developers have kind of abandoned Windows Mobile, simply due to lack of popularity.
My next phone will be 4G. Since, well... it's here (Wilmington, DE).
I sold my soul for rock and roll..and this phone.
Freaking sexy phone, cant wait
I find the design of this HTC Schubert really ugly.
I am truly disappointed. It reminds me the old Touch Pro 2 or, even worse, the old iPhone 3 GS.
Look how the Dell Lightning is elegant compared to this horribly designed HTC Schubert and its ridiculous back cover.
I think I won't be loyal to HTC this year. I need a smartphone with a nice design. Not this.
