Screen Grabs: Ari Gold will definitely fire this guy once he notices he's using an iPad
Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.
The latest episode of HBO's Entourage (if that's the kind of thing you're into) might have been a bit of an eye opener if you're also the kind of person who keeps an eye open for gadgets. Ari Gold's legal adviser (seen in around the 4th minute of the episode if you need the proof) has an iPad set up, keyboard and all. Now, we know Ari's character pretty well. He's the BlackBerry Bold type -- and while his wife uses an iPhone, we have a hard time believing Ari's going to put up with the iPad in the office nonsense for very long. You, young man, are on very thin ice. There's one more shot after the break.[Thanks, Pat]

Oh look, an iPad! :)
@One Love
if you are gonna carry around a keyboard AND and iPad, why not just carry a damn laptop.
@One Love
if you are gonna carry around a keyboard AND and iPad, why not just carry a damn laptop.
@One Love
If you are going to carry around a keyboard AND an iPad, why not just carry a freakin laptop.
@corylulu
Engadget glitched out there ^^^
@One Love Agreed. While the iPad is a great home consumer "couchtop" it's not even close to being in the realm of a productivity tool. In fact, it's utterly useless as a productivity tool, even with a keyboard. My wife and I love our iPad, but I would NEVER use it for work.

Ditto
@Laura
You do realise that Ari has an iMac on his desk right? Something he's had since like forever. I'll forgive you if the sight of Vinces bare ass caused a lack of thinking on your part when creating this post.
@One Love I was in a meeting recently where a guy had an iPad. It is pretty good. It is not as powerful as a lap top, but for many it will do.
It's like comparing Laptop and a Desktop, if you do not play games ans just serve the web laptop is a way to go. If you just takes notes at the meetings, check your e-mail and so so multimedia iPad is a way to go.
@Sea Urchin
I can assure you that an iPad will not "serve" the web. ;)
@Sax25
Not sure if she does, considering the use of the phrase "(if that's the kind of thing you're into)"
is it just me or does that seem a bit judgmental, like she's saying it CERTAINLY isn't the kind of thing she is into?
also, LoLing at the "young man" comment... the actor who plays the attorney is Rob Morrow (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001555/)
@One Love such a shameless plug, engadget
@Sea Urchin
If I were to take notes during a meeting, I'm not going to type on that ipad. That would slow me down. I'd rather have something to write with, say, oh I don't know, a stylus.
The whole office uses mac. You can actually see one in the background in the second screen shot. No matter what phone you prefer (i just left berry for droid).but use a mac book pro at home. There no hiding how great mac is but I would never use a iphone.
@Sax25 Hahaha yeah I was like "whoahhhhhh he's fucked up!" and "thank god he passed out stomach down."
Other than the ending, the episode was pretty good. Poor Turtle. Then again at least he gets to act with Dania Ramirez, who is my current idol.
@One Love
Wait wait wait.... people actually watch "Entourage"?
@Sax25
Also , if you notice, Ari is never working at his desk. Nor working hard on his computer when he's at his desk.
The fact that the whole office uses Macs proves it's a fantasy show.
@Grill it Your loss

Because the keyboard dock stays at work while he picks up the slim slender iPad and goes home without dragging a laptop and it's charger.
@Sea Urchin I use an iPad all the time for work. Great for note taking , browsing web, responding to email. I do however miss having several applications open at once.
Oh yeah, thar iPad E-mail app is brilliant. It has no pane to show your In box, just an asinine pop-up list that doesn't let you sort by sender, subject, whatever.
Then there's the continued lack og FILTERS, without which any E-mail program is a farce. Apple suffers from a special kind of stupidity when it comes to leeping things organized. Witness the fact that their Notes app lacks categories. To-dos (or the half assed excuse for yhem that Apple offers) have no categories.
Because yes, Apple, everyone just wants his stuff jumbled together in a big pile.
@iPhone 4
Other people use phones for those things, but I guess you need the exercise or something.
@chripuck I use mine for work all the time. It's excellent for on the go presentations or quickly demoing some documents off of google docs for a vp. Not to mention ithoughts HD is a killer app for meetings and brainstorm sessions, couple it with some 11 x 17 paper and you've got a great poster for a project. And takenotes is excellent for annotating someones work for a rough draft. Plus it's a great way to get out of the limits of your workstations hardware. Like for example information entering, using the iPad as a "second screen" saves a lot of time and improves efficiency. Not to mention the reams of paper saved by just showing rough drafts off with the iPad before a final version...
Guess it just depends on your work scenario, but mine has been invaluably useful
@(Unverified) Because you can't rip the keyboard off a laptop without some damage.
That being said, I would not get the dock/keyboard combo. Apple's little Bluetooth works perfectly with the iPad and is much more portable.
As for why he would fire the guy for using an iPad? Yeah, that's a lame excuse for humor.
@chripuck
... Just gonna stick my foot in here, but as a student, I love using my iPad for papers and work. Of course, it hasn't in any way replaced my desktop, its awesome for lectures and doing documents on the go or in front of the TV. Just make sure you have short nails :)
@(Unverified) "if you are gonna carry around a keyboard AND and iPad, why not just carry a damn laptop."
Weight, battery life, and IPS screen are 3 possibilities.
The iPad lasts an entire day on a charge, has a better quality screen than typical laptops and only weighs 1.5lbs.
I'd personally just have a 13" laptop but if you already had a big desktop and the iPad covers the functionality you need then it's a viable option.
You don't really have to carry the keyboard dock around, just leave it at work.
sigh..... any reason to keep the word "iPad" in the blog... this is reaching
@Xtole your avatar cracks me up.
@Pickaxe
No kidding. The way Ari looks in the picture is exactly how I felt after reading this article.
@Xtole
exactly.
And I can clearly see an iMac on the second pic.
Pretty sure Ari uses an iMac as his desktop. If you are a blackberry guy, iPad is the way to go. All the iPhone Apps, plus you get to keep you POS blackberry
@dalucci
Um...no. For starters, I'd like to see a professional that doesn't need the ability to print. And if I'm going to have to email something to myself to print it, why not just do it on a laptop.
@dalucci that analogy made no sense.
@BigJayDogg3 Printing... There is an app for that!!
Looks like he's wearing a yachmaster watch, a brooks brothers suit, and j crew button down. Can I have some ad money too for this "article"?
@rutter9 ...yeah...another great "article".
@Taller
shut the fuck up and read another blog site. You clearly read the article, despite the headline giving you all the info you needed in order to make an informed decision to skip it, if not interested. But no, you read it. Fail.
@TomSawyer
Yep, I read the article and voiced my opinion. Pretty crazy huh?
@rutter9 It's not like this is the first time Engadget has talked about product placement. Remember that episode of Smallville?
Ya... Me neither...
@rutter9
I'm surprised anyone notices product placement in this season. The whole show is just one big fucking ad for the tequila company owned by a friend of one of Entourage's creators.
Double facepalm...
What does it mean?
@ChazClout
It means this show has one more season left.
Seriously. The show only has a season left.
@techee44 Is this a stated fact or your opinion?
@timmy2000 Unfortunately, it'll be all over soon...
http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/08/hbo-entourage-series-will-end-next-summer.html
Ari also has been seen using a Nexus One :)
He was right there on the same set with the guy. How could he not see it?
To be honest Laura, I don't think he gives a shit. And he's not alone.
Ari Gold is the best thing on Entourage, followed by Drama. The rest of the cast is meh.
@Greg
Agreed. Vince, whom the show is centered around, is probably the least interesting, most boring actor on the show. Ari, Drama and Turtle are far more interesting. And then there's Sasha Grey.......wait, what was I talking about?
@Jackhole Actually Vince was supposed to be a very minor character when the show first aired. It was mainly supposed to be about the "Entourage" but he cried his way into a more significant role.
