Is Microsoft quietly opening up a Kinect beta program?
Well what do we have here? It appears our friends over at Joystiq have received word from diligent tipsters that Microsoft's Connect customer feedback service is sending out Kinect beta program invites. Details are predictably sparse, but naming ironies aside, the note does specify that chat will be limited only to those involved in the preview program. While this isn't really surprising given the context, Joystiq surmises that this choice clarification could hint invitees will have the chance to sample the video chat app available through the Kinect's new dashboard, which was shown off at E3. Unfortunately, Ballmer and crew have yet to lend any official credence to these murmurs, though apparently the email address behind these notes is valid. It's also not that outrageous to imagine Microsoft wanting to spin Kinect's wheels in the wild before releasing it to the unwashed gaming masses on its official November 4th launch date. Considering the program would have to put hardware in the hands of testers though to pull something like this off, we're counting on more than a few overly excited gamers shining additional light on the situation should things get serious.

i wana get in on this
@ChairmanMeow
While high? I dont think so
@ChairmanMeow Where do i sign up?
How?? @ChairmanMeow
@mnhthebest
that is the best moment to play kinect, mind you
@metanup you cannot, invite only :(
@ChairmanMeow I got an invite last week, So i'm assuming they are all being sent out now. So check your emails, Btw you must already be apart of the microsoft connect program.
@ChairmanMeow
I may already be on this...
@ChairmanMeow
You cant just sign up, you need to be invited. Like the E3 Circus-delai Kinect event they had. They were all invites to people outside of press and other VIP members. I would know, I received one such invite for the E3 event; was also chosen to participate with the Facebook, Last.fm, Twitter xbox live update last year. Still waiting on this beta invitation, so well see whats up. But keep in mind, there is no way to actually "get in" on this beta (if it is legit).
Damn. I want a xbox now.
Wait.
The Kinect Bundles are way more generous to people who don't already own an Xbox ($100 for Kinect + Game in console bundles)
@BlackedOut Glad I waited then >:D MUHAHAH
Well, it's not so quiet anymore!
Now everyone wishes they were a member of Connect.
U mean kinnection?@samiles
@samiles I've signed up for various Connect beta's in the past and I was not sent an invite.
Did you hear about the Buy One Get Me One promotion?
@SpaceKyd Yeah I did hear about that, so when are you going to buy yours?
@SpaceKyd Will u donate me one.
I got the email. I can't believe it's taken a full week for this to be reported.
@Ecstatic Section from the invite:
* This is a confidential program and you will be asked to digitally sign a Microsoft beta participation agreement. Sharing information about this program is strictly forbidden and confidentiality is of the utmost importance.
* DO NOT: blog, post pictures or videos, discuss on social networking sites, or talk with media or press about the program or its contents.
* All hardware, software and materials provided to you will be your responsibility to keep confidential as a beta participant.
* You are being given the unique opportunity to see pre-release software, so remember it's a work in progress and your participation and feedback are both valued and encouraged. More details on what content you'll see will be provided once you're accepted into the program.
Note the second dot point.
@Ecstatic
Damn that is strict. When are you uploading your complete review with pics and videos? =P
@Ecstatic Pictures or it didn't happen
@liftedngifted1 http://i33.tinypic.com/11bkl5j.png

@Ecstatic Niceee....
@Ecstatic
True. Wanna make Kinetic calls with me? LOL
@Ecstatic

@Ecstatic I got the invite too. On Aug 6th.
Why does anyone care kinect looks awful
Wait...so what if you get on the beta and no one you know is on it? Who do you video chat with? Random MS employees?
@Tes

You must have an Xbox LIVE account and internet connection"
I've been BetaING kinect since June 29th. I'm not allowed to take a picture of it or talk about the 7 games I have either. But here's some info..there is little lag but sometimes it doesn't register my
Movement and yes the room is well lit. The 6 out of seven games work horribly with kinect and 4 are made for kinect. But there is this FPS that responds to every aim, every reload, every move..and yes it's a rail shooter. Oh well. It's still kinda fun.
@Earz628 *ahem* pics or it didn't happen.
He's making stuff up.
@Earz628 You are full of fucking shit. Nice try.
More pos from m$ they should do what bill did give away the money to Africa.
@Makali
By troll. Fly troll.
To show off Kinect properly, Microsoft should set up a Holodeck Lab with 4 Kinects, 4 Xbox 360s and 4 100" TVs and SOME SERIOUS GAME SOFTWARE like the one FPS "Earz628" is talking about.
There are many movie and TV entusiasts who have set up a home theater. In the same vein there will be enthusiasts who will set up a home holodeck, cost of TVs and Xboxs and Kinects notwithstanding.
Damn! That's one of the "it sucks balls living in China" moment. :(
It was also confirmed on Major Nelson's podcast
How do i get on this???? I want one!
Most every other place reported on this days ago. Talking about being behind. Would have been better off at this point to say nothing at all!!!
I am so pissed off that I didn't get a beta invite. :-(
I want in on this . . . Now!
how do i apply so i can get a kinect w/o spending the out outrageous retail pricing?
I got an invite to this last week, So Hopefully i get in.
I LOVE my Xbox like an only child even though I also have also have a red-headed stepchild named Wii, but this whole Kinect thing is basically a Wii with less functionality because there are no buttons! Check out the game selection (big yawn) Am I wrong? Is there something I'm not seeing?
Has anyone been accepted yet?
