Screen Grabs: EVO 4G captures illicit in-progress surgery on The Closer
Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

The Sprint badge on our EVO 4G definitely isn't lit up in florescent yellow, but the logo on Sgt. David Gabriel's sure is. During last night's episode of The Closer, Brenda's right hand men were instructed to bust out their cellphones in order to videotape a crime in progress, with the "crime" being the removal of a rapist's heart for transplant into a young, innocent lady back at the hospital. We'll spare you the gory, sticky details, but suffice it to say this 8 megapixel shooter definitely proved valuable when it came time to show and tell. Oh, and didn't 4G just go live in the Los Angeles area? Man, talk about a timely appearance...

they chose the right phone because at least you could hold it the way you want and the apps dont need to be re wrote to support mutli tasking
@big nazty You, sir, are either going to get upranked into glory or downranked into oblivion. Hard to tell...
Bets anyone? This will be interesting to watch.
* reaches for the popcorn cup *
@big nazty What does multitasking have to do with a phone apperance on a TV show lol
@big nazty
Oh boy..
@big nazty
Oh fuck off. You pointless trolling shitstick.
....and Seriously engadget... first entourage and the iPad then this How is any of this bollocks news.
@big nazty What the hell does that have to do with recording video? Nothing.
@loocas
I got 60 credits on downrank
good product placement to first to even get noticed on TV, then posted on engadget
@big nazty
No, man, it's simply has a bigger screen. They need to be really explicit in movies. :)
@barac
I own an evo and could care less. If there was a real life situation where someone's life was saved or something impressive was done that would be nice to read.
@loocas They'll probably up-rank him because this site is full of people that hate Apple.
@rutter9
Here u go!!
http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/01/24/haiti.survivor.phone.app/index.html
@loocas itd probably remain neutral, either because of the perfect balance of isheep and phandroids or they just want to see how much popcorn you have.
@big nazty not "re wrote" *rewritten* ... learn some English you basement-dwelling iHater. Have you ever owned an iPhone 4?... NO. Will you ever buy one?... NO. Will you ever buy any Apple product... I doubt it.
Yes... I am ready for the downranking that will ensue. But at least I made my point. These haters are just too much. Seriously, who upranks these trolls? Is Engadget so full of iHaters?
@big nazty
Haters going to hate!
@Seven2k
Craptalkers gonna talk crap!
@big nazty I downranked you because you can fucking hold the iPhone any way you want shut up, and who cares if you need to rewrite the app, it's so simple to do that all developers do it, fast
@Brt312
Oh come on. There are shit ton of people on engadget. Some hate Apple, some hate Google, some hate Microsoft, some hate Nintendo...
haha. just kidding. no one hates nintendo.
@loocas Of course he's going to be upranked. Now that Android phones are outselling RIM and Apple's, Android users are the new sheeps that just go along with what they read on blogs blindly and buy phones based on commercials.
(disclosure: I'm an EVO user)
@JojoMojo
You are right in one thing... he will probably never buy an Apple product which demonstrates he picked a product based on his own personal and intelligent decision.
And I'm sure there are lots of people too who will buy an Apple product based on an intelligent decision.
On the other hand your post just says you picked the iPhone based on a brainwash.
Luck!
@big nazty
@big nazty
Yay! Let me background this app, not all it does is slow done my phone and kill my battery, hmm... how do I quit this app? Press the home button? That minimises it so I have to download a task killer. With the iPhone, apps that need multi-task can multi-task and that's it.
Hey! That's some pretty nice product placement...
@DaHarder
I hope the battery didn't die during filming.
@Meekermoloko
... or the Patient!
j/k
@DaHarder Of course the patient died, he got his heart removed
@3rdsun
Rapists don't have hearts
@DaHarder That's a really high visibility logo. Looks like Best Buy isn't the only one to get a special edition EVO.
Smart product placement is still a product placement... ;)
4G is live in Minneapolis too it seems been on since 10 this morning.
@eagrimm : wait, WHAT?
@One Love
I sent in a tip at 12 to engadget from the EVO. I didn't see a way to add a ss to the tip but its going 5XXX down 5XX up
@One Love
Oh we had seen it do it a few times before but just for like 1 - 10 min.
@eagrimm yeah it was live 2 weeks ago when i visited my daughter in bloomington lol!
@kingpinchi
yeah that is close to where we are now with it running. I don't have an EVO, and I am just reporting what we noticed on a workmates phone today.
@eagrimm thats awesome slowly and i mean really slow they are bringing the 4g love to america lol
i love how they made sure the Sprint logo was extremely noticeable.
@LetsHaveWaffles I was actually going to say the same thing their spiral logo or whatever it is was colored in as well.
@LetsHaveWaffles
Yeah, that is a fairly standard tactic with product placement in TV shows.
Sprint really needs to take some advertising cues from Verizon...
I think Sprint's 4G in L.A. is on a trial right now in certain areas and sporadic at best. I think it's not supposed to be completed until the end of Summer ... but what do I know ... I'm on AT&T.
Yes, the old "mutli tasking" is critical.
I'm still waiting for a Sprint announcement that the Evo has moved a million units, now two months after its release. I guess being able to hold the Evo any way you want hasn't helped Sprint move many of them. Perhaps the holding flexibility is tempered by the awful battery life, the unavailability of 4G in cities that don't feature grazing cattle and that silly NASCAR app.
@Perspective The main problem sprints having is not having them in stock there missing so many sales its crazy by them being out of stock for over a month now
Rar
What they really need to do is find some more kids to build phones for HTC in their sweat shop so they actually have some EVO 4Gs to sell...Advertisements aren't gonna do you much good when your product is continually "Sold Out..." Hopefully they will have one available for me when my contract expires in a month or two...
he looks like he stole something,
not because he's black
This is a random question but has anyone switched to Sprint and got the Evo from At&t?
@Brt312 I'm about to, just got 2 more months on this 2 year Tilt contract...
@shinra Because I want to know how much better the 4g is
@shinra
Wow tilt huh..... Man....... How is it?........wow.....(sheds a tear)
@cell128 Actually its not a bad phone...i installed WM 6.5 on it and it runs better than the day i got it...really like the slide out keyboard, but well see how the touch screen keyboard is on the 4G...it even has gps on it, real gps not the triangulation stuff...and i should be able to make back most of what ill pay for the EVO after i sell the tilt on ebay...biggest reason im switching is because sprint's plans are cheaper...
@shinra
I have an iPhone 4 but I was looking to het an old windows phone so I can tether to our pc's at work. They are locked down to our intranet but they have activesync. if I unplug the network cable I can tether over USB with a winmo phone. I used to do this with my old htc touch diamond. How much are u asking for it?
