Android GPS navigation: X-wing edition
Why settle for a Star Wars voice pack when you can completely replace your boring, "useful" navigation system will an authentic X-wing targeting computer? That's thinking of Flash-developer Christopher Caleb, at least, who put his skills to use to develop this note-perfect Adobe AIR-based app for Android. Of course, you won't get anything like maps or points-of-interest, but you will see your destination slowly approach in the "trench" as you get near it, and Caleb has of course thrown in plenty of R2-D2 sounds and Rebel Alliance pilot chatter for good measure. To top it off, you can also simply switch it to a clock mode when you're not on a trench run road trip. Head on past the break to check it out in action.

@BeeksElectric Switch your deflectors on double front, we're coming in hot!
So where do I download?
I don't get the fascination with Star Wars?
For me it lost all it's appeal once all the crappy prequel movies were made.
Maybe I'm just getting old?
@(Unverified) No most people just ignored the pres. *waves his hand* You never saw episodes 1, 2 and 3. Seriously I went back to watch Phantom about 3 months ago.
Wow I forgot just how bad the thing sucked. I mean we are talking black hole sucking from whence no plot can escape. Which would explain why 2 and 3 were better. Once you get outside the event horizon of Episode one the gravitational forces allow something of a plot to occur. But sadly 2 and 3 still are within the influence of the George that sits in the center of episode 1 and keeps good plots from forming.
Yeah! You hit it!
whenever I have used my GPS/Phone to get me somewhere I've always wanted to 'high-five' it or something, every time I reached my destination. you know, just to say thanks but if this is the closest I would ever come then I would be fine with that. Its kinda like we both won our little game. I reached my destination 'safely' and my GPS/Phone blew up the Deathstar and saved the entire Rebel Empire from total utter annihilation. win win
Another edition of.... Why didn't I think of that
Lining out words got old in 1997. Crap journalistic form to say the least.
Don't park on a double yellow!
No wonder people keep driving into ditches. You're supposed to turn your targeting computer OFF if you want to hit the target.
Droid does
the force will be strong with LucasFilm's lawyers
@darthgault
That depends, if it's free they may not sue. He didn't sue fans who released The Phantom Menace without Jar Jar.
I have an iPhone 3GS and I own a $2000 Cannondale road bike.
@HighestRanked1
Way to stay on topic there buddy.
Sadly if this made it to the Android marketplace. The Lucas Arts legal team would be on its heels like Vader and his wing men.
:o You parked in a bus lane... Bad bad boy!
"Luke, you've turned off your targeting computer!"
Yes, that's it, to turn, you need to turn of the 'targeting' computer and use the 'force'. BTW, the background noise/sound is annoying, and it is my main reason to turn it off :).
ISomeone can port it using Android native SDK for performance and better battery life. :)
So how are you supposed to know which turns to take!? Or do you know you took a wrong turn when the number goes UP instead of DOWN!?
This is a cool idea and all, but it definitely comes across as some kind of a fake mock-up thing.
@Heliosphan Agreed. There is no evidence that there is turn-by-turn support. The developer needs to provide a new video displaying that before I'd try this.
This has to be the most annoying GPS app. It just can't shut up !
I WANT THIS NOW!!!
Seriously...
Almost there..... Almost there....
Aww darn! I took a wrong turn. Recalculate R2.
QR Code???
That's not distracting. Good thing this will prevent car crashes.
Between iOS 4, WebOS (get some new hardware out please), WP7, and Android more and more it looks like Android has what I want.
Strictly for N-E-R-D-S
