Microsoft employees may
eat their own dog food, but they won't have to code cross-platform Windows Phone 7 games
in their spare time -- Redmond job postings recently revealed that there's a studio for that, which will develop and publish first- and second-party titles on the company's dime. According to job descriptions, the newly-christened "MGS Mobile" will develop "showcase" Windows Phone 7 titles with an emphasis on
connected play, and also incubate titles from indie devs and partners like the original Microsoft Game Studios, its older Xbox-based sibling. Interestingly enough, games won't necessarily be limited to Windows Phone 7 devices, but may appear on "emerging mobile platforms" as well -- the idea being to advance Microsoft's position in the mobile gaming space rather than just pimp the WP7 platform. Is the world ready for Halo on
MeeGo? Oh, you bet your britches it is. Just don't expect to see Xbox games
on Android, yo.
Update: Looks like Microsoft's actually been on the job hunt
since June. It's just so hard to find good employees these days.
@pinktacoyummm
hahaha... what? bzzzt.. wrong.. they're trying to make games for their mobile device... yawn...
@IPhone4GS
Yup combining a mp3 interface with a phone has never been done before... oh wait
Isn't Microsoft making their own game studio for mobile old news? I could have sworn I read or heard about this months ago.
I hope they come out with their own portable gaming device that doubles as a phone also but uses discs of some sort. The Sony PSPhone sounds limiting to games.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.... Baby!!! I
Microsoft, Apple and Google need to push/pay the carriers to make sure downloading approved games from their market places don't go against your cap.
Anyone know what phone that is in the picture?
Great news! Kinda old news but great none-the-less!
I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I really doubt Microsoft will be developing anything for Meego. Meego is Linux and MS hates, hates, *hates* Linux. They won't want to give it any legitimacy in case it ends up becoming a competitor to Windows on tablets and netbooks.
Didn't Ballmer, like somebody mentioned above, compare Linux to Communism?
There's more of a chance they develop games for the iPhone than they would for Meego/Linux.
Meego + Microsoft = A snowball in Hell.
@Johnny Tremaine
Right, I hope you do realize that Microsoft is porting Silverlight to run on Meego?
Another slow cluncky buggy windoze
@Makali goes to show how much u really know.
idiot
this story is late as hell
AoE 2 would be cool
@RollingRock
Ah... dude its 2010......Are you serious???
Ugh......
So Zune HD/Wp7 will be cross platform apps....?
Microsoft is going to do awesome with bringing online gaming to phones. Right now, phone games are pretty primitive. Sure, now the graphics are pretty good. but the controls need work (you need buttons!). and there's virtually no online gaming with phone games. but put these gamers on XBL. and it's a whole new world.
Great news, Palm should get in on the action.
