Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo OTA updates are go
Judging by the deluge of tips that just hit our inbox, it looks like Verizon just pulled the trigger and released the Android 2.2 Froyo over-the-air update for its venerable Droid handset. At least it has for some lucky owners. So tell us, did you get yours?

Plenty happy campers I'm sure.
Congrats Droiders.
Dictated from my EVO 4G
@Almo Dam The Froyo update is rolling out really fast too alot of handsets.. Eclair took ages to come to other phones, good too see the update process has gotten quicker..
@Almo Of 4 Droids I know about 0 have gotten the update.
@Almo
best phone ever
@Almo I'd be a lot happier if I'd gotten Flash when I got the Froyo update (about a half hour ago)...but nope, it's still "coming soon."
Lots of cool lil' other upgrades, though!
@Pa1adin I just got mine, here in ca
@Almo
i cant wait to see what google puts out next month as far as their market share per version. i'm thinking w/ the droid update, froyo and eclair should will probably be above 60% of the handsets. and it'll only get better once samsung gets off their lazy asses for the galaxy s updates.
@Almo does it have wifi hotspot, cos there was something recently on engadget saying that it wasn't capable of supporting the feature
@Pa1adin I woke up to a slice of froyo pie
@clericva
Yum!
Frozen yogurt pie? Huh... yummy
Just got it
@yourdadsbff
Still no Flash? Dammit!
@yourdadsbff
Huh, that's weird. My Froyo came with Flash and wifi tethering...it also came about a month or so ago...
Verizon, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
@tikigawd you have to download from market after you have 2.2
@yourdadsbff you can download flash via megaupload sooo gooooooood
@jedidove
You need to make your letter to verizon more business like, use a colon. I have corrected.
Verizon:
FUUUUUUUUUUUU
@tikigawd Download it from the Market.
@Almo "Your system is currently up to date." -> not happy camper
@wolfhowl
Ditto... ME WANT OFFICIAL FROYO NAOW!!!
@liftedngifted1 Competition is a great thing!
@cobjones
Oh shit good catch! Maybe they'll pay attention now....ah who am I kidding....
WOWWWW
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on Telus, release the Milestone, Hero, and Desire 2.2 Froyo updates as well...
@kapanak
I'm hold my breathe for a Telus release too.
Cool.
Yeah, I got mine a couple months ago..
Wow I'm sure there are quite a few droid owners rejoicing right now. Or, you know, kicking themselves for not buying the droid x.
@lvm3912
I'm eligible for an upgrade and went with a used Droid off craigslist for 150 instead. Custom ROMs are a must for me, so no Droid X. Now that I got rid of my dying xv6800, I can comfortably wait for LTE.
@j3oomerang ouch @ yourr past phone. possibly worst phone i'd ever seen someone use
@j3oomerang That's a good way to go. And that tricky bootrom on the droid x looks like it could prevent custom roms for a while.
This is why we need Android phones to run stock Android, we we actually the updates within a month of it officially coming out and don't have to wait for the carriers.
@Seakip Except that the EVO got it's official update before the Droid...hmmm kinda puts a kink in your theory there.
I am surprised that it took the Droid longer to get an update then some of the other phones, especially those running Sense.
@Seakip Yeah that's why the EVO 4G got the 2.2 update before ANY Moto phone right?
@Taknarosh
Since htc is a god all of the sudden wheres the incredible upgrade? oh or the mytouch slide.
before you htc guys go around bragging you should at least wait for htc to pick up the slack with its other devices. the world doesnt revolve around the evo you know
@Seakip
Froyo was officially released on June 23rd. The Droid's Froyo release is sort of close to "within a month."
@iWebDroidBerry mytouch slide lol... dont buy that i have a mytouch 3g and i have a 2.2 custom rom the mytouch slide or 3g cant handle it it has a 528mhz cpu so dont even think about it.... maybe the mytouch hd yea with gingerbread but no to you sir
@big nazty
English please?
@Seakip Owning a N1 I am spoiled but I would think about switching to Verizon if the updates arrive this quickly. Compared to the last few updates this one was lightning fast to come out.
@thinkindependent
The Droid is the 3rd phone to get the Froyo update....
1.N1
2.Evo
3.Droid
But it was the first one to get a custom Froyo rom :)
Droid does what Droid 2 don't.....run custom ROMs.
@Apeman96 How do you know if the Droid 2 can be rooted and run custom ROMs? Its not even out in the wild yet.
@Belnor
they are locking down the bootloader. so we wont be able to install sprecovery on the droid 2.
@iWebDroidBerry The real point I was trying to make is that the whole "Stock Android is the only way to get updates within the following month of the update being release" myth is finally debunked. It all boils down to how fast the manufacturer gives the update to the carrier for testing and then how long it takes the carrier to "test" it (which is the longest step).
Why is anybody even waiting for this still? Control your own fate ROOT!!!:) its unbelievably simple!!
@jmauney Amen!!!
Man I wish I had an android phone so I could get the update :\
Any Android update for my N95? Nope... I guess I feel the same as all those X10 owners
@Pearl Jam
Well big fucking surprise!
About time.
