Motorola XT806 Android flip phone strikes a pose on Chinese website
You'd think Motorola would be done for the summer after pushing out the much anticipated Droid 2, but no -- apparently it has yet more Android handsets to deliver before it could head to the beach. Spotted on a Chinese regulatory website is this XT806 flip phone, which is destined for China Telecom's CDMA2000 network. Like the other MING handsets, the main selling point here is the Chinese handwriting input on the 3.6-inch 854 x 480 LCD screen -- no word on touchscreen type, but we'd be surprised if it isn't resistive. The phone -- powered by a 600MHz TI OMAP3430 chip -- also comes with microSD explansion, FM radio, Bluetooth, WLAN of some sort, and a 5 megapixel camera that does 720p video. As for which version of Android, no idea, but we'd still pick the MT810 over this newbie any day.

Interesting.
@Blackyankees VEEEEERY interesting.
@Blackyankees Motorola made a feature phone similar to this for Verizon, I guess they really are serious about "All Android, All The Time" lets just hope they dont make a RZR with Android built in or it will sell like crazy again lol...
@Blackyankees This form factor is similar to 'MotoMing'
I don't know if any of u remember it. But it had the same type of flip phone with a touchscreen
@Blackyankees
The design is really interesting, The spec's... not so much.
@Blackyankees
Say hello to the Motorola Star Trek Communicator.
@Blackyankees explansion gets me off.
Not really feeling that design. Is Moto the company that was gonna have a cell phone with a 3D screen? My brain may be all wrong since it's late, but this looks like the picture of that phone.
@Ellianth
I think that was Sharp.
@Ellianth your right. Motorola filed a patent a few months ago.
Not sure how'd (or why) you would use both sides but the design is quite intriguing...
@Diggler
The touchscreen can be used through the protective cover thing. It's like a 3D touchscreen I believe... (The flip thing adds a layer of the stuff in 3D glasses, making it awesome... Or that's how the last phone was from Motorola that looked like this.)
@APV Quite intriguing indeed. Too bad it won't hit here anytime soon.
@Diggler
It says handwriting input so think of it like a Nintendo DS.
Oh wait, nevermind. You mean the front screen.
@Diggler Sounds like one of the screens is used almost purely for handwriting input in Chinese. I think engadget guesses about it being resistive since most input methods for Chinese are better suited for resistive screens, though with a totally dedicated screen maybe they came up with an input method that works well on capacitive? Who knows.
@APV
could the layer be motoblur?
@tekdemon
The last phone with a design like this had a functional flip cover. Basically, the flip cover was transparent and had resistive input for character recognition (using a stylus). When you flipped it open, you had capacitive touch when directly touching the actual screen.
WHY can't this good looking stuff make it into every other bland/ugly phone design?
yea, looks just like moto's phone that was suppose to do 3D by layering one screen on top of the other
@neo122112
Layering a layer of that film used in 3D glasses over the screen...
pretty slick looking phone I'm interested in seeing it powered on...
There sure is a lot going on there... Hmmm?
Not certain it's all good.
Reminds me of the motorola Ming
At first I thought it was three touchscreens. That would've been very cool to see, two Super AMOLED touchscreens inside, a IPS LCD screen on the outside? I would buy that.
But this, this is not what I expected.
Looks pretty sweet.
So wait, the outside of the flip phone is see through and the inside is a touch screen? That's actually a kinda cool idea. Idk if I'd ever buy it, but it's a much better way to update the classic flip phone formula then RIM's Pearl Flip or the Flip 9600, which are both fucking atrocious.
ew.
Better then the standard andy bar bs for smartphones. Variety dog nabbit.
No front-facing camera? Wouldn't it be awesome to do like multiple chats at a time on this device.
What's next? Android implant in Moto V70?
OMG and explansion slot!
@stevep92

I read only one high resolution screen. hmm.. dual hi screens flip open would be highly interesting.
Nice to see an editor with the brains and balls to call things what they are: CDMA2000. Bravo.
As opposed to GSM1993 ?
3D is so overated it's pathetic .... Don't fall for the marketing scheme as 3D tv's and such will be dead in a year or two. It's expensive and I can't see myself wearing glasses to watch tv or on a phone.
Capacitative finger painting Chinese is really a pain. I really need a capacitative stylus... or just learn cangjie.
