Motorola's Droid 2 in the wild, looking as blue as ever
And that, folks, is our first in the wild look at Motorola's second generation Droid. It's not officially supposed to hit retail until tomorrow, but that obviously hasn't stopped a delivery truck from unloading a few at a nondescript Sam's Club. We're still waiting to hear back on whether or not they're actually being allowed out of the store today, but hey, tomorrow ain't too far away.
P.S. - Nice Sony Ericsson mat.

@TheOriginalEgyptian
It actually looks really good:D
@TheOriginalEgyptian
"Costco ftw". LOOOOOL why does that sound so funny??? Ahaha
@TheOriginalEgyptian Welcome to Costco, I love you.
@TheOriginalEgyptian huh?
Sam's Club != Costco
@JonnyB +1~
Any truth to the rumor that Droid 1's docking stations can not be used with Droid 2?
@JGE I heard somewhere, forget where so i can't link it, that all original droid accessories will work with droid 2. So you should be good to go
@SoulWeaponry
I can't find a link, but I think it was at Phandroid.
@thepwneddroid The home dock works fine, the car cradle does not fit since it has the lip instead of chin.
Looks nice! Glad they fixed the off-center keyboard. The keyboard looks a bit more like the Mogul, and that was one of my favorite mobile keyboards.
@Mike10010100 The keyboard really is nice but I have the Milestone and to tell you the truth, I'm loving the qwerty on this thing. You get used to it fast and that directional pad actually provides some decent functionality in many cases believe it or not (lol).
@lerxst
Yeah I tried the Droid2 today. Definitely not as easy as my Droid1, but the keyboard IS better... I think it's a matter of getting used to it.
@lerxst
See I had a problem with the lip on the edges blocking my thumbs from reaching some of the keys.... Maybe that was just a small learning curve, but I prefer a flat surface...
I like the Droid, and this is just a shallow, cosmetic criticism.... but I'm not really feeling it.
@ObieWanKenobie
I agree with you. The Droid had sharp edges with metal and gunblack matte plastic everywhere.
This really doesn't follow the same aggressive paint scheme or mold as the original Droid which I liked so much.
@ObieWanKenobie I agree. The first Droid was bold and had an "industrial" design where it looked sharp, distinct, solid and kinda futuristic in it's sharp and edginess.
The new Droid is just a shiny piece of navy blue plastic looking "meh." I hate how they filled in the bottom instead of having the top layer be shorter.
@ObieWanKenobie
agreed. The original Droid looks much better imo. The blue throws off the appearance
@JONNNathannn R2D2 edition?
@ObieWanKenobie
I agree with you....not sure what exactly it is but the first droid is still miles better in design.
R2D2 version or nothing.
@d0mth0ma5 R2D2 if you want to advertise your virginity
why are there no GSM droids...... I mean seriously
@rmbrown09
bc those aren't the droids you're looking for
@rmbrown09
Cellular South is getting the milestone this month.
@rmbrown09 There is. It's called the Milestone. One major difference? Motorola signed the firmware on the Milestone. Thanks Moto...you scumbags.
Anyway; I'm sure the Milestone 2 or whatever should make its way into our hands by the new year...certainly if last year is any indication.
@lerxst The Droid 2 will be just as locked down as the Milestone.
@rmbrown09 Because Verizon is the holder (licensor) of the Droid trademark and Verizon doesn't use GSM.
If Motorola makes a similar phone for GSM (T-Mobile, AT&T) it will have a different name.
Look at the Droid Incredible. When it's on GSM it's called the HTC Desire, not the Droid Incredible.
@rmbrown09 just wait for the Droid Pro in november. It will be the global device in the droid family.
Lame tile
I don't understand this tile... As blue as ever?
@Megamancito
the phone is navy blue instead of black
@Megamancito Gotcha! Altho sometimes some of these titles make me shake my head... Looks like someone trying to sound smart :p
@ObieWanKenobie
I completely agree with you too - not looking the prettiest is it? Motorola need to have a complere re-brand in opinion. Lots of dated looking products.
so I got a droid2 in my store today and wrote a small review up in android forums nothing to great http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-2/147994-first-impressions.html
also we arent allowed to sell them before tomorow for those interested
@spaz4322 Thank you for that. The physical description and speed report were just what the doc ordered. Now I'm going to have to wait until they make the Milestone 2 GSM version of it before I can enjoy it. Have a good one!
@lerxst
sure thing, its been a slow day at work so I figured why not
@spaz4322
Thanks! It was a good read.
I kinda liked the batman black and gold combo better, but I'm still excited to see reviews on this! If its anywhere near as big a hit as the Droid was, Android will see another hefty boost.
See that box? It's not a Droid TWO, it's a Droid SQUARED! Now that's an upgrade!
@mappo
1^2 = 1 though. Just sayin.
@bodar
Math win
I like it.. can't wait to see how the new keyboard feels.
...still waiting for a high-end GSM Android device with hardware keyboard, c'mon HTC!
Hmm.... i got a droid x, but droid 2 looks cool too... still have time to exchange... after a good long minute of thinking.... i think i'll stick with my bad ass droid x
@EVOL101 Good decision....
_Make android use the GPU (if available) for UI and browsing_
Everyone sign up for gmail, log in and star this topic. With enough stars we will get noticed and get a chance have this implemented in 3.0.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be in the next version of Android. They're "laser focused" on user experience for 3.0 and great UX needs a smooth UI, and to get a smooth UI, GPU acceleration is a must.
@einhanderkiller
Im %100 sure they will but its just to be on the safe side.....ohh and I forgot to post the link
