Redsn0w jailbreak works with iOS 4.0.2... on your iPhone 3G
This isn't going to do you iPhone 4 types much good yet, but it's interesting to note that the current version of redsn0w apparently works like a champ for jailbreaking your old iPhone 3G (yes -- 3G -- not 3GS) along with second-generation iPod touches running iOS 4.0.2. As we now know, 4.0.2 materialized for the sole purpose of patching up the PDF exploit that allowed JailbreakMe to do its thing, so it's kind of funny to see that redsn0w is still able to do its thing unhindered... just not on the devices most of us care about. Keep on keepin' on, Dev Team.

That's sort of like putting an import engine into a Delorian... the engine is awesome, but the car you're putting it into can't necessarily handle it.
Oh, and there's fanboys. Even though the car is old.
Just some info for people that have been posting on different sites asking. No redsn0w doesn't work for 4.1 beta 3 it does but you make calls nor receive any kind of data
Will this delete my MUSIC??? i just spent a whole day getting it all back on there!(i'm very unorganized right now) and i don't wanna lose all of it again! So will this delete my music??
Why would engadget think 4.0.2 would patch the jailbreak itself? Jailbreakme.com was te delivery method to install the jailbreak...fixing the PDF exploit, would not mean fixing the exploit used in general that causes the jailbreak to happen.
Engadget #fails again...
2 bars on an AT&T Micro-Cell? Fail.
@Locust Only an engadget fail. http://s3.amazonaws.com/files.posterous.com/temp-2010-07-17/wIjEJoszkcvAHqcyycorBEaJzHheJHGlgGzIjHkuBnhrmxIbqrshCorvjxpG/microcell_iphone.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=1C9REJR1EMRZ83Q7QRG2&Expires=1281705359&Signature=KX5AjfBC2MKFPSiOQ5bJ866OhWE%3D
Doesn't work for me. iPod touch 2g non mc
Tried and had to recover use PDF patch cydia
Why would it be a surprise that there is an updated redsn0w that works? Of course it still works...
redsn0w uses a bootrom exploit. The exploit it not patchable through software. The iPhone 2g, 3g, and iPod touch 1g, and 2g are and will be jailbroken on all firmwares forever through this same bootrom exploit.
Also, the 3Gs (old bootrom version) is also jailbroken for life but there is another small roadblock that prevents redsn0w from functioning. However, updated Pwnage tools will always be able to jailbreak iPhone 3Gs (old bootrom versions)
Only the iPhone 3Gs (new bootrom version), iPhone 4, and iPod Touch 3g are unjailbroken right now. Their last 2 jailbreaks (spirit and jailbreakme) were userland exploits and thus were patched in the next firmwares. This will always happen unless a bootrom exploit is found in these devices which seems unlikely as none have been found in the 3Gs (new bootrom version) for about 8 months since it's been out.
Jailbroken *and* 4.0 on a 3G? Why would you submit yourself to that kind of painful, painful torture? The two separately are bad enough for performance... Together? Forget about it.
