Froyo code for HTC EVO 4G, Droid Incredible goes open source
You know the drill: if you're rolling custom firmwares for your Android-powered devices, you've got to release the GPL portions of those binaries for all of our prying eyes to see. It's a drill HTC is well-acquainted with at this point, and once again, they've come swooping in with a couple that should pique the particular interest of the North American hacking community: kernel source for the Android 2.2 releases for Verizon's Droid Incredible and Sprint's EVO 4G. Of course, finding a frickin' Droid Incredible is another matter altogether... but hey, at least when you do, you'll have the source for it. Half the battle, right?

Who would want the Incredible now anyways though when you've got Droid's X and 2 starring at you from the moment you walk in the Verizon store... :P
@alexlipford THE X MAY BE TO BIG FOR SOME PEOPLE AND THE DROID 2 WILL SURLY BE TOO UGLY FOR SOME PEOPLE. THAT'S WHY THEY WOULD CHOOSE A DIFF. PHONE (CHOICES) I DON'T EXPECT THE DROID 2 TO DO THAT WELL WITHOUT THE MARKETING PUSH THIS TIME. IT'S AN OUTDATED LOOK FOR SURE.
@alexlipford
Motorola has that locked down bootloader crap...so, me.
Me.
But that's just because I don't like the software running on them and the even more locked attitude of Motorola (as opposed to HTC). And, in the case of the 2, I don't really care for a hardware keyboard.
And because I already have one, so I'll go to any lengths to defend my purchasing decision.
@Shawnmaybay
Couldn't have said it better.
Hey folks just wait on the official release or be sorry u didn't it will be released soon enough. ;)
But it feels good to be 1st on EVO :)
Because the Droid x is freakin huge in a pocket and the Droid 2 has a keyboard. Love my Droid Inc light fast fits in pocket, fits my needs nicely.
I'm pretty noob at this -
does this mean we can use the source code to install on our Droid Incredible devices? and if so, how? thanks
Feels like I've been waiting forever for my Incredible Froyo update- Oh wait, I HAVE been waiting forever!
Love mah EVO.
I sense root coming to FROYO for the EVO real soon
I recently upgraded from an HTC Touch Pro to Incredible on a business account when my NE2 kicked in last Wednesday (not this past Wed.) In any case, I ordered it through the VZW B2B site and wasn't expecting to receive my phone until Friday at the earliest.
I was pretty surprised when I came in to work last Thurs. morning to find an e-mail from VZW saying that I would have that day.
So, I don't understand this "hard to find the Incredible" thing. Is it just retail customers/stores that are out of them?
It's too bad that they don't open source everything including the graphics drivers, etc.
Do other Android phone manufacturers like Samsung and Motorola release their src codes too?
