Pentax K-x introduced in four new colors, double rainbow now fully complete
Well, well -- what have we here? Oh, four more K-x hues? Who would've guessed. Just months after Pentax introduced the latest round of colors to hit its long-standing entry-level DSLR, along comes a new foursome to consider: chocolate, beige, olive and pink. We actually witnessed the last one there back in mid-February (go on and guess, we'll wait), but now the whole group is up for sale on the company's webstore for $649.95 each. Too bad Pentax seems more interested in pumping out more exterior variations than a bona fide K-x successor, eh?

so intense!
@TjK Rainbow colors all the way
meh...
@deliteguy I can't even capture it on my camera..
..oh wait
@TjK
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Nice image manipulation Darren, use Photoshop much? BTW - I'm sure Pentax likes you guys editing photos of their products.
Would that ever happen on Engadget with a half black, half white iPhone 4? Oh wait, the white version doesn't actually exist, never mind then.
@TjK
I think the double rainbow joke has run its course now. Did everyone get a chance at it yet?
@FraggleRock Relax dude. I'm a Pentax and Android fan (read I don't like the iPhone), but really, where's the problem?
WHAT DOES THIS MEEEAAAN!!!!!
@taylorsmith246 dunno, but the main pic was really poorly Photoshopped.
@taylorsmith246
It means Pentax added color, not 1080p @ 30fps nor HDMI or visible AF points in viewfinder :(
@taylorsmith246 It means that Pentax is cribbing from Nintendo's playbook.
@laxic Yes, the viewfinder of the K-x is pretty... average, even below average. Quite a disappointment when you compare it to previous entry level Pentax DSLRs which had the biggest viewfinder of any crop sensor DSLR, focus point indicators, interchangeable focusing screens...
Dear god, what have they done?
@dotCARBON
they have given you more of an option when it comes to cameras D:
For my money what I like about my DSLR being black is that it's less noticeable than bright colors.
t's so bright and vivid...
taste ...er click the rainbow
The K-x is a really nice piece of kit for that low price. It's high ISO performance is on par with the D90, and it's really small for a DSLR. Paired with the 40mm pancake, it's the easiest walkaround DSLR on the market.
@jakerome
You're so right about that. I held and played with both the k-x and the D90 and came away with a new k-x (in red :D).
Where'd you get the pancake from? Looking to upgrade my kit lens.
@Rem DX The 40mm pancake can be found at Amazon, Adorama, B&H or elsewhere. But your next lens should be the 50mm f/1.4. These sweet prime lens (no zoom) take awesome photos, and the 50mm is great for low light photos.
@Rem DX
It's the Pentax 40mm f/2.8 DA Lens.
For what it's worth, Pentax make (IMO) some of the best Prime lenses you can get for APS-C (Canon and Nikon it seems are concentrating more on zooms)
@jakerome I wish Pentax had a 50mm 1.8. The 1.4 is more expensive than the Canon 50mm (in Germany, elsewhere it's much cheaper. Thank you Pentax! Way to loose your last remaining customers.) and there is no affordable alternative. It's starting to suck to be a Pentax owner.
Colourful versions don't make me stay, though the military green one is actually quite hot. But I want my camera to be as invisible as possible to get more natural photos.
@kadajawi
Thank Hoya for that, after buying Pentax they realized their lenses were cheap and almost double the prizes. I got the 40mm pancake new before that happened now good luck finding it for less than $500, same with the 70mm 2.4f i paid $380 now you can't find it for less than $550.
@iRaNDrOiD Check out the Marketplace at pentaxforums... great place to get quality gear at not-absolutely-wallet-melting prices. ;)
Neapolitan ice cream meets fine photography! I am at a loss of words.
Actually, that olive colour wouldn't be too bad for shooting nature photography.
Looks too much like a plastic toy, pass.
ugly.
WAIT, IT'S STARTING TOO LOOK LIKE A TRIPLE RAINBOW!!!!!!!!!!
Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, and Pistachio
Double rainbow all the way across the sky.
"Too bad Pentax seems more interested in pumping out more exterior variations than a bona fide K-x successor, eh?"
Be patient, just another month 'till Photokina.
@bebop
apparently they are going to announce the k-r as the successor the k-x
I don't know why Engadget is complaining about a successor, the K-x is still top of it's range and it hasn't even been a year since its release.
it's impressive that they were able to make all of the color choices ugly. usually you get one crap color but not in this case. great job!
@quantumpsych
i guess they've run out of the good colours since they've been nearing the 20 colour mark
Nothing screams professional like hot pink.
@tophat
Except these aren't professional cameras
True, but they're not really aimed at happysnappers, either.
@tophat
They kind of are.
Some bad colors there.
How about something like metallic red, blue and yellow?
Heck, of the above, the pink actually looks the best and thats not saying much.
I just procured a k-x and I'm loving it so far (first slr, digital or otherwise). Would of loved to have had the white one maybe, but I received the camera for free so I can't complain (woot for air miles!).
Just horrendous...
...and a nightmare for inventory management, unless they are built-to-order!
When I was back in college, I thief-proofed our TV by spray painting the cabinet hot pink. Guess this would work just as well.
I have a K-x (In White) and I love it. In my view its the best DSLR for the price. And even better or on par with some of the more expensive ones.
But these colors should have probably never been released...
Poor image splice - doesn't Engadget have a graphics guy?
Gross.
Parrot poop green.
Barf tan.
Cat in heat pink.
Dog dropping brown.
Are all the good colors reserved or patented or something?
comes in 3 shades of diarrhea
Do the bright colors risk colors bleeding into the lens/sensor if shooting in bright lights near somewhat reflective objects?
It's full rainbow .... all the way,
Double rainbow.... Omg..
