Square mobile payment readers now shipping again to tiny transaction tycoons
The Square payment system hasn't exactly had a smooth road to availability, with deliveries put on hold back in June due to an ominous "credit processing and risk issue." If that didn't scare you away from accepting small payments from the company's tiny credit card swipers, rejoice, because they appear to be shipping again -- at least to some. Sally over at the Square support forums posted that she was sent the following message:

A few others it seems have also received the same note. How about you? Is your little, different credit card reader on the way?We started rolling out Square card readers and one is now coming your way from our fulfillment center in Saint Louis. It will arrive on your doorstep in the next few days.

@scorpeo
Weird, I didn't have to give up either my SSN or a Tax ID, then again I signed up as an individual and not as a business.
@chaoscentral, you're required to provide your SS# for individual as well.
@scorpeo Square's reason isn't false at all—it's true and absolutely standard in the card processing industry.
A merchant account is effectively an unlimited credit line. As a result, most companies won't open an account without running a credit check. Hence the Tax ID, and in many cases, a personal guaranty (and thus an SS#) to go with it.
Do you know how many movies Jason has, he's his own bank
Lmao this has #Trouble TT wrote all over it, and don't you dare hold the "G spot" on the phone while you swipe your card

Dont be so square be more green :)
It's neat for what it is, but I'd rather have a Hypercom Blade since that's got a docking station with a printer available. Also it uses either cell phone signals or WiFi if it's available like at a trade show. At least the touch screen allows signature capture via the phone, which is extremely important to have.
