It still doesn't add
mobile hotspot or tethering functionality, but it looks like users of the original
Droid will soon be getting a second Android 2.2 (a.k.a
Froyo) update. That's been confirmed by Verizon itself, which says that the second update will be following the
just-released one in the "coming weeks," and that it will let users download Flash 10.1 from the Android Market once it's available. Details are light beyond that, but
Phandroid notes that the rollout of the current Froyo update is expected to be complete around August 18th, and surmises that the second rollout will begin shortly thereafter.
@steel
Popular phone? I've not seen ONE Incredible in person outside of the Verizon store and I work over at EA. Everyone is pretty hardcore about their electronics at work, though I will admit there are a few bad seeds out there defending their iPhone 4 nonstop when no one even made a comment to them - Jesus. HTC phones on Verizon's network are always awful. Sprint though gets some sweet HTC love. Tons of Verizon Blackberries and Moto Droid's though (all three variants with the OG being the most popular due to the dedicated GPU and overall open-ness of it).
Then again there is a general consensus among us that anyone who spends a fortune on a high end "does-it-all" device without the added physical key input is a jackass. Keyboard + touchscreen combo for the win, just like a mobile PC with emulated mouse on the touchscreen.
I'll be happy when I get the first update.
I manually updated my phone to FRG01B and USB tethering is working just fine, start off grayed out but once I connected it to my PC it became selectable. My only real question is since I did a manual update, will I get the OTA update later?
@scaryuncledevin
Yes, you should.
Where's Jason??? Did he cut off the Android's arm??
@Johnny Rockets
Is this a joke? Like I've seen quite a few people talk about "Jason" what/who is her. Direct me to an engadget post where this is explained/made up.
@Teerim jason is on the Droid 2 Review pic (look closely) & now on this article the androids arm is messed up...so iThink he was wondering why they didn't show jason in this 1 too
@Fr3sh2De4th Oh & Jason is also on the engadget podcast o_O...didn't see him at first
@Teerim
Today, or yesterday here in Sweden, were Friday the 13th. Cue the star of the many horrible movies with the same name, Jason.
I see no Jason
Will this also fix the slow your phone to a crawl feature that the first 2.2 update introduced? Froyo completely destoyed any sense of speed my device had.
@TheKingBoar. You are joking right. For the first half hour or so, yeah it is slow but it picks up. I have never had a faster phone.
@BobStewart. Your right, for the first 20-30 minutes after the froyo update your phone will be a lil slow (try rebooting a couple times). The only way to prevent this from happening is to get a phone that is stock froyo
@BobStewart
Not at all. Froyo has slowed me to a crawl. I had to uninstall half my apps just to run at the same speed.
Bring Froyo to the Milestone already :(
.......looks at HTC Hero *shakes head*
Ha! Looks like Andy is flippin' us off.
Hey Verizon, I hope you didn't forget about my precious Droid Incredible, the only high end HTC android phone you have. Where's my FroYo?
@Neomastermind C'mon, the Touch Pro2 was pretty nice as well. =)
@TheColorCute He said ANDROID phone.
Patiently waiting for the Incredible to get 2.2. Had they sold more copies the phone probably would have been on the list for the update by now =/
take my advice... if u have the moto droid (og)... install froyo urself and get ur flash 10.1 fix now... root ur phone (eastroot) and enable tether service for free.
ps - google is ur friend.
pps - flash doesn't really work all that well on this phone. prepare for a slight letdown.
I just want my first update so my friends can stop shoving it in my face....
Be patient guys, just got 2.2 on my droid twenty minutes ago. Btw it is a December phone. Yaaaaaaayyyyyyy!
I still didn't get the first update. I'm hearing a lot of bad things about FRG01B, hopefully they just bring me straight to FRG22. When will I get this? Is the deadline the 18th? Ill definitely have at least one update by then?
Anyone get 2.2 yet? ?? Not me.
Oracle gonna kill android I'm going WP7.
I still havent got the first Froyo update on my droid.. -____-
The first Froyo update has USB tethering but it sends you to a Verizon site. No free Froyo tethering so far.
Where is fro yo . We want fro yo we want fro yo. Sent from droid voice to text.
Oracle killed my phone. Oracle killed android.
I'm getting a mee go phone android is dead .
Google is kickin it self for not buying sun .
How about we just get our fukn update verizon/ motorola stop sending it to randmo phones im a paying costumer and i want it now , and im madd at verizon already tht i hhav to wait 2 yrs for another phone ,waht eevr happend to tht saying " the customer comes first"
I booted up my Droid and it said "Sorry , Oracle killed your phone-have a nice day"
Just got it 10 minutes ago. I'm surprised how much snappier this makes the Droid. Good job, Motorola/Google!
Huh a second update?!?! And here the milestone owners are left fuming because the decision for the froyo update for us is still pending. I guess the non-US customers do not deserve to be treated with respect.
I still haven't got the first 2.2 upgrade yet so not holding my breath on the second
I haven't got the first 2.2 upgrade yet. Not holding my breath for this one.
Motorola Driod jus got over the air update @ 1:03am central time
well its aug 16th and i still havent gotten the first update. only 2 days left. what time do the updates usually happen?
or what if we dont get it by the 18th then what?
I still haven't received the first update either..
Nothing here either. And my phone's taken to rebooting for no reason like once a day, which is worrisome. Anyone know if you have multiple launcher replacements configured, are they running in the background and eating up resources? Just don't know which will work best with Froyo, and which to chuck.
