Droid Incredible getting a spoonful of Froyo on August 18th?
The Droid's slated for a second helping of Froyo, the Droid 2 came with one, the Droid X will see Android 2.2 by early September -- when's Droid number four getting its due? According to Mashable's anonymous sources, August 18th will be the day Verizon begins the Droid Incredible's OTA rollout -- which lines up pretty well with what we heard a couple weeks back, not to mention the fact that HTC just released the handset's Android 2.2 source code. As always, dates slip and Verizon often dishes out small batches at a time, but now you've got a ballpark estimate to assuage your troubled mind. And hey, you can always go shoot something in 720p if you get tired of waiting.

The Droids are getting fat with Froyo.
@thepwneddroid What will Darth say/think about this?
@NuklearPanda Luuuuuuukeee........ Luuuuuuuuuuuke.... Lol
@thepwneddroid FINALLY... I hope.
After blah blah blah amounts of news that my incredible was getting froyo I finally see a potential legitimate date for the update. Engadget don't let me down now!
I find it ridiculous that the Droid X hasn't gotten froyo. I'm pretty pissed. So much for having the flagship phone of the pack.
And where the f**k is my tshirt verizon?
@thepwneddroid Gotta love the first comment (that is usually high ranked for some reason) and the few (mainly 2nd & 3rd) comments that follow in the conversation within it. Complete useless drivel. After that, people forget about it and get onto more important things.
@Teslanaut
Which is why I decided to make the first comment an almost completely useless one, it needs to be a tradition at Engadget. haha
@beast101 Wow, it's only been a couple weeks. Be patient, man.
@thepwneddroid Is the announcement, pending arrival, and actual arrival of every version of Android on every model of phone really worthy of an individual post?
/I guess
@Teslanaut
+1 for the use of the word - drivel
@Teslanaut
-1 for being a whiney little bitch
...I remember my first blog
@FlyingCodeMonkey Yes it is, it gives hope to each and every Android user who has a handset out there that doesn't know when their device is getting an update. Posts like this one let me know that I was getting Froyo among all of the others and it also gave me a date to look forward to it. Thank you Engadget for your Android coverage!
@MrFluffyThing Yawn... Froyo just as google releases 2.3
@einhanderkiller I somewhat agree with beast. Droid 2 released with Froyo already. It wouldn't hurt to give DX users.
@beast101
Droid X is the flagship? All DROID phones are the same price. DROID X does have a bigger screen but what else? I think Verizon is being fair to their customers. Upgrade to Froyo in sequence of the phone's release...
@thepwneddroid
don't you mean "phat"?
@iroq d mullet
No. "Phat" means cool. I think you know what "fat" means.
@iroq d mullet
Don't get me wrong, Froyo is cool (pun not really intended), but not what I wanted from that comment.
@MrFluffyThing
My inside Verizon source is much more reliable.
In fact, it's my cousin's wife's brother's best friend's aunt's husband's grand father's neice's husband's next door neighbor's sister-in-law's milk man's brother... TOTALLY RELIABLE.
Anyway, he says it's coming out tomorrow. You can take that to the bank...
Ofcourse, dates are known to slip. So maybe not...
@AAmante Soooooo. Has anyone gotten the update yet? Nada for me, and I have one of the pre-ordered DIncs (received 4/27/10 - the first day of availability). I am not all that excited about 2.2, but have been holding off on getting a bigger MicroSD card until 2.2 came out...
When is 3.0 coming out?
@acegilbert Rumoured for mid-October. So full roll-out by December?
@d0mth0ma5
My N1 will let you know.
@Waltah
Oh snap!
@Waltah I envy your early updates... and for that i also hate you! :)
I want Android version 3.0.
@acegilbert
It's not out yet.
Droid Incredible = the Droid Eris of today?
(Moto Droid X is to O.G. Moto Droid as HTC Droid Incredible is to HTC Droid Eris)
Same makers too.
@Teslanaut
What?
@Programmer Ok, if you want me to say it more plainly, Droid Incredible = Low(er) end, Droid X = High(er) end.
@Teslanaut
Droid x ? the droid of today
The same droid that got eclipsed by the n1 all of two months later?
The Htc vision is coming out soon right... ?
@sylent101 I guess no one sees the pattern. When the first Droid was released, made by Motorola, another Droid was released, by HTC, the Eris. And now the pattern or cycle is repeated, Motorola Droid X and the HTC Droid Eris.
I am in no way saying that the devices are crap or low end. I am merely pointing out the repeated pattern.
@Teslanaut quite honestly, I think the incredible is still the best phone on Verizon lineup
@Teslanaut
I'm definitely biased, as I own an Incredible and have yet to use a Droid X, but how do you figure the Incredible is low(er) end? As far as I know most of the specs are the same except the X obviously has a bigger screen. And when it comes to screen size it's really more of a personal preference, not clear cut high/low end.
@Teslanaut actually the the eris came first then the droid 1
@Teslanaut you make absolutely no sense, the Eris & original Droid came out the exact same day the incredable after then the Droid x & Droid 2 what pattern?
@mr88 The Droid X has a faster, more efficient processor. The GPU on the Snapdragon processor is slow than on the TI OMAP core in the X. They both contain Cortex A-8 derivatives, but the OMAP has hada die shrink so it is more efficient.
@B3astofthe3ast I would also much rather have a Dinc then a Droid X. For one Motorola can't learn their lesson with crappy UI's. I know two ppl with Droid X's and both say the phone is slow and most likely because of the UI.
@Air2ground
I did not realize that, thank you for explaining it. While the X may have an edge, I would still argue that they are very comparable, and don't think the Incredible could be classified as low-end.
@Teslanaut
Eris is to the Incredible what the Droid is to the Droid 2.
I love how the people here took my comment as saying that the Incredible is crap. Companies/Carriers offer choices. You can go for the higher end, more powerful, more expensive device, in this case, the Droid X. Or the lower end, cheaper, but not as powerful as the big one, Incredible. They were both released around the same time period (like Droid & Eris). Same carrier, same device makers.
I am in NO WAY saying that ANY of these devices are bad or terrible. I am merely pointing out the similar even that happened months ago with the Eris and original Droid.
Again, to reiterate. I am not saying that the Incredible is a low end device. Only pointing out the similar even that happened around 9 months ago with the Eris and Droid.
@Teslanaut
Gotcha. It seems that your last post was directed at me, so I'm sorry if I read too far in to that. I couldn't be happier with my Incredible, and I'm sure the other Incredible owners, as well as the X owners, are saying the same thing. :-)
@B3astofthe3ast
How do you go about saying the Incredible is a better phone (unless maybe you're a middle aged women with small hands)
Personally, I go by specs. Droid X- bigger screen, same speed processor, different UI that aren't comparable, better graphics, same camera (8mp cam/ 720p video) and MUCH better benchmark test on all tests I've done side by side (quadrant, an3Dbench, neocore, to name a few). I don't see how anyone can classify the Incredible as a better phone, equal on some levels but never better on any as far as I've seen.. except for maybe the color being red, which is cool i guess?
Any specs anyone can think of that gives the Incredible one up on the X?
@Teslanaut
Ok, similar event happened. And? Now what? What's the relevance?
@bradyw Going strictly by specs I would say you are right. Screen size, however, I think is more of a personal preference, as is the UI. Some people prefer the smaller screen (hey, it's still bigger than the iPhone's) and I know a lot of people prefer Sense over Blur. So while it may not be the best spec-wise it is very close, and the rest is just a matter of opinion. I really like my Incredible but haven't used an X yet so I can't say which I like better for sure.
@bradyw I'd say sense is much better than motocrap, since it actually DOES something other than slow the phone to butthole speed. After playing with an X, the UI disgusted me, so horribly slow and convoluted. they tried way too hard to go with the "droid" theme, while sense does its own look and feel, while also adding some nice functionality and aesthetics.
@B3astofthe3ast
So, root the phone (as everyone should IMO for the best experience), rename the "blurhome.apk" to "blurhome.bak" so the phone doesn't recognize the home screen, run Launcher Pro, and you'll never have to worry about it.
@Almo Relevance? Sure.
Will we see this pattern again? Are device makers & carriers finally on a schedule? One device per maker per carrier a year? No more worrying about another device that will come out quarter year later? A stable release schedule? Less fragmentation?
There. Relevance.
@bradyw Oh yea, I forgot about the most important part! The incredible has XDAs backing, while the X...has an e-fuse, so you can't do anything fun with it. boo.
