Droid Incredible getting a spoonful of Froyo on August 18th?
The Droid's slated for a second helping of Froyo, the Droid 2 came with one, the Droid X will see Android 2.2 by early September -- when's Droid number four getting its due? According to Mashable's anonymous sources, August 18th will be the day Verizon begins the Droid Incredible's OTA rollout -- which lines up pretty well with what we heard a couple weeks back, not to mention the fact that HTC just released the handset's Android 2.2 source code. As always, dates slip and Verizon often dishes out small batches at a time, but now you've got a ballpark estimate to assuage your troubled mind. And hey, you can always go shoot something in 720p if you get tired of waiting.

@Anticrawl now "they" are saying by the 18`th....Not sure who THEY are though.
@bufbarnaby
I'm not sure who "they" are either, because I never used the word "they."
@Anticrawl I know. I am so pissed. I'm STILL waiting for the initial Froyo update for the droid. God dammit.
I have owned an Droid Incredible for awhile and would like to call BullSh*t on this. I've heard enough speculation as to when froyo will release OTA for the DINC. I don't think anyone even received the rumored 720p video recording update. It's kind of like the apocalypse, I'll believe it when I see it (only the Froyo update seems like it would be a tad sooner).
@oxzide The update's been leaked for almost half a month now. It has Froyo and 720p. Personally, I don't care when the OTA comes out as I won't ever be using it since I have the forums over at xda-devs to provide me with updates :)
I'm running a leaked version of the 2.2 update on my incredible. It does record 720p, benchmark on quadrant around 1200, 3g hotspot... its real, hopefully everyone will get it soon.
FU LARRY E...I have FROYO !
Thats what I thought the article confused me, if u get bored waiting go record something in 720p, how are we supposed to do that if that feature is in the update I'm waiting for...
Whenever he finally dies , if I am around , I piss on Larry`s grave.
Ha... my Incredible's been rocking Froyo since mid-july. UnrEVOked FTW!
Actually, the 720p OTA got pulled before it got to many Incredible owners (like me). They are wrapping that into the Froyo update. So I guess I'll have to find another way to kill time in the interim.
In Soviet Russia, Froyo spoon you.
Why are the editors at Engadget always looking for credit to be due to themselves? The funny thing is that I see most of the news here somewhere else days before here. And then suddenly it's shit like
"which lines up pretty well with what we heard a couple weeks back"
And this guy knows that the 720p video recording update didn't hit all handsets right? And that it's being bundled with the froyo update
@yyandrew Yeah I saw this on AndroidCentral before here and was like "hmm, I wonder why Engadget didn't post this." Oh well, better late than never (I don't regularly check any other tech blogs besides those two anyway).
Please let it be so!
Oracle just screwed Android up.
WP7 here I come !
Open source is crap like Ballmer said.
This is what happens.
@bufbarnaby You know the C# syntax could be considered open since its a published standard right. That would explain why its crap.
@bufbarnaby
Ballmer is an idiot, Oracle sucks and Larry is a greedy piece of shit.
Go wp7 if you want but it'll be a downgrade from android.
I'm just curious. Why version offer its updated in tranches? That is .... you get an update and then you have become back to get the rest of it.
What'sup w/ datt!?
Yea!!!! As a side note, anyone know how to get the Samsung Vibrant's special skinned feature "Decline call with message" onto the Incredible?
I'm kind of sick of these stories. I guess people want/need to know, but with how many handsets are out there it is getting pretty repetitive.
@Awall1987
People have different phones and want to know their particular phone is getting the update. Sheesh..........
What a whiner.
@Awall1987 At least its stories in different phones instead of 10 stories covering one feature on one phone.
Aargggghhhh! Two posts about Froyo, man I hate Sony Ericsson, the X10 needs Froyo now.
Just another MASHABLE unconfirmed rumor.
@jbh00jh I really don't like Mashable, but I hope they're right this time.
froyo FTW
I got sick of waiting for the official OTA so i finally rooted my incredible. I've been running froyo for a few days now and it's a little smoother but nothing breathtaking other than a few tweaks here and there.
Too late, I've been running Froyo like for a month now with the 720p recording, app2SD card feature and a bunch of goodies that are supposed to drop once Froyo arrives.
Yay, most of the original 2.1 sense roms for the hero were based off of the incredible 2.1 update hopefully the same spill be
Got mine . Lol. But I work there :)
This update is going to wipe the phone, isn't it???
@pilot925
It didn't wipe the phone on the EVO or the original Droid.
@SCB
That's a relief....
These manufacturers like Moto will be all making WP7 handsets soon , for fear of Oracle suing them individually. I`m out.
Droid for sale.
@bufbarnaby They were planning to make some anyway. Sorry to tell you but Oracle doesn't have a case anyway. There won't be any slowdown in the Android onslaught. In fact if Google release Dalvik as an all purpose VM Oracle will have more to worry about than this lawsuit.
HTC> Moto
@Mr Roarke
Yet the Droid was the first android superphone and the Droid and Droid 2 have 2.2 while the Incredible doesn't. Moto makes better hardware.
@Shooter McGavin Um, ok. Not sure where you're coming from with that one. Does the original Droid have a 1 GHz processor? More "on-board" memory? Nope. The holdup for the DInc has primarily been due to HTC testing to make sure the update will fly without giving people problems. That's it. And, as someone mentioned previously Verizon seems to be handling the OTA in a first in, first out manner. Droid was out first, so it gets the approved update first.
meanwhile i STILL haven got the first Froyo update on my Droid....
Finally. I can now keep a decent amount of storage inside my DInc...
Among other things...
@Phil A
like gay porn?
There are so many Droid phones it's not even funny anymore.... Quit trying to have the best droid because every month there will be a better one. I had an EVO keyword HAD... HTC and MOTOs build quality really sucks. Just Sayin...
All I can say is I got my Incredible on the first day (pre ordered of course), and I danged well better get Froyo the first day it is available.
The Droid incredible was the best phone on the market when it arrived hands-down, now its top 5 months later..I've had it since it dropped and see no reason of getting any other device out right now...none are that much better than the incredible
It's the 18th-no sign of OTA-I got my dinc on day one.
@Claret
Same here :( Im so sick of waiting ahhhh!!
@Claret
MaximumPC has an article stating Verizon is starting to push Froyo today, but I haven't seen mine yet in Phoenix :\
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/froyo_flies_htc_droid_incredible_starting_today
Here's my SWAG.
(1) Verizon appears to be going in their launch order here. They have been rolling out the original Droid updates now, with plans for Incredible next, followed by Droid X.
(2) Motorola, Google and Verizon all stood up at the Droid X launch event and said that the Droid X would have Froyo "by late summer", which means that they must deliver it to the customers by then or risk getting a class action lawsuit for disclosing a roadmap item to falsely temp buyers. They would almost certainly lose in court and they won't want the bad press anyway. Summer ends on 9/21, so assuming a 2 week rollout window (again, complete SWAG), that would place a Droid X Froyo update somewhere around 9/7...at the latest. Plus there is another Engadget update stating that the Droid X will be getting Froyo by early September.
(3) The original Droid started the update cycle on 8/11 and apparently is not finished yet, thus leading to the 14 days update window SWAG. 14 days would put the completion on our around 8/25.
So if I am even close to being right here (2 week rollout windows, hard stop of September 21st and Engadget is accurate that Droid X will be updated in Early Sepember) Verizon should start pushing the Incredible update no later than August 24th or 25th (immediately following the 2 week Droid rollout window). Oh well, time will tell. It sure makes more sense than that junk that mashable was trying to peddle. :-)
