Samsung Galaxy Tablet coming soon to Vodafone UK?
You know the old 'smoke and fire' adage by now, and while the alarms aren't sounding just yet, we get the feeling that they will be shortly. We've heard Samsung itself confirm that an Android-based tablet would be departing its labs sometime this year, and since then, we've also heard an IFA debut tossed around. Given that said show is but a few weeks out, it's halfway logical to think that Sammy would be notifying some of its launch partners of its intentions. We can't be certain that things are locked in just yet, but a 'Samsung Galaxy Tablet' has recently surfaced within Vodafone UK's systems (as shown above). There's no price or release date accompanying the mention, but it may signal that a 3G-enabled version could be coming to Britons following a proper unveiling in Berlin next month. We'll keep digging for more, and you can bet we'll be on the ground in Deutschland for a hands-on should the opportunity arise.

@oled
I wonder what the RAM amount is and the internal storage. I hope they make it 1GB RAM with 8GB storage before we put our own mSD
@oled Well I can definitely Say most of your Specs are on the money. My friend at Vodafone Germany though says in there system it is 1.2ghz, mini-USB also, and he was informed that the screen would be a higher resolution then the Galaxy S but this is still not confirmed, and it will have a SD card slot along with 16gb onboard, will allow you to use third party keyboards and parts without a issue. Unlike the Ipad.
@TheOne HI there, does your friend from Vodafone Germany know what kind of display technology Samsung use? LCD-TFT or SUPER AMOLED? Thanks Erich
@oled Super AMOLED same as it Sibling the Galaxy S will go to Media Markt on Monday and see if it is in there inventory listings normally products that are announced in Germany with in a month will already be listed with details
@TheOne On this monday? I can not believe this because i has the info that Samsung want to introduce the Galaxy Tab at the IFA-2010 press conference. Can you send me your infos per E-mail? Thanks Erich
@oled I am making a point that the manufacturers here always give the local Electronics dealers at least a month heads up and info before Announcements this is why when major shows like CEBIT or MWC are doing there exhibitions most cases the day the Shows end you will see alot of the products already in the stores here without delay.
So if this is the case and Vodafone is already getting info then it is natural that their is a good chance that the Electronics stores might already be getting info in their inventory listings. This is why I say I want to check on Monday and see
@TheOne OK i understand that, can you inform me about that? You can send me the infos via Twitter http://www.twitter.com/oledtv
Thanks
Erich
@oled Dammit Eric you forcing me to use that twitter account I have not looked at in a year LOL. If I can get the info will share with ya.
@oled
Screen resolution 480x800.
I hope that's wrong, web browsing will be nasty on that.
iPad for comparison, is 1024x768
@Nevasleep
Somebody gimme a 1366 x 768 tablet with froyo or gingerbread on it, and I'll be selling my iPad right now!
@TheOne OK please mail me to erich.strasser at gmail.com
Thanks
@oled
480x800 resolution seems off... that would be really dumb if true. So at this point, I'm going to refuse to believe that.
@oled
--------------------------------------
- CPU Profile ARM11.
- CPU Core S5PC110.
--------------------------------------
Lolwut, the S5PC110 SoC, also known as Hummingbird, utilizes an ARM Cortex-A8 based CPU.
Also, 800x480 on a screen that size? I'm having a very hard time believing all this.
@Revolutionary You have to have one before you can sell it .....
@Revolutionary It's gonna be hard to top the iPad. Especially with all of the money you've invested in apps. Let alone the quality of th apps.
@oled if that screen res is accurate then ppi = 138. That is not very impressive at this point.
@sean4123 STOP THE PRESSES. did you really just put iPad and "quality apps" in the same sentence?
FYI, here's a key selling point over the iPad if this thing is anything like the Galaxy S components. The Galaxy tablet will hardware accelerate ANY supported video format *including* MKV. The iPad won't ever do that, not just because its components are too weaksauce to HA a 720p or 1080p MKV file, but because Steve will never let you play an MKV period.
@MisterWarmth thank you somebody finally gets it even with a smaller storage space it is possible for it to fit more then the Ipad do to the many different containers it can use.
When is it coming to North America because I'd like to know the performance and most likely buy one together with a Galaxy S phone!
@hero785 At the moment its not clear Samsung introduce the Galaxy Tab first at the european market. We hope that the Galaxy Tab P1000 does have also a Super Amoled Display like the Galaxy S!
@oled I think they will be releasing here since they are making the major announcement in Europe companies are already starting to see it on their screens and their is really not such a big competition right now.
The Ipad has not done as well here as in the states alot of people don't see the point of spending €799 Euro(about €920 to make it useful)on a tablet when they can get a net book for half the price and sometime free with a contract. So yea if it can be around the price of the regular Galaxy then this will really be a winner. Especially since I am a on the go person will alot of HD movies and I can just drag and drop them onto this baby without any issues or extra software
@TheOne Appatently the guys over at AndroidGuys have someone giving them pictures this weekend of a Samsung tablet from Verizon...
So its possible that's a Samsung Galaxy Tablet as well.
Last video clip I saw on YouTube had the four captive buttons, unlike the leaked pictures that had three. All that leads me to believe there's a US variant.
@EggoEspada Maybe the States is always getting different configurations where is the one on youtube
Let's see how this compares to the Dell Streak...
Let the games begin!
@zachthemaster Wait a second.... Did you just compare a tablet/phone/computer to something that isn't made by apple? Something is terribly wrong here.
@Shanebenn fuuuuck apple
:D
@StevenColbert WOW Steven what a commercial you made for a minute I thought you work for Apple
As soon as this comes to the states I'm getting it!!
@StevenColbert Oh yea and also after that whole commercial the Tab will not require about 200 bucks worth of dongles to do all these great things, and hell if you compare the Galaxy S(I am referring to the Euro model don't know about North America) it has much more built in functions then the Iphone 4 has hell my Mafia Wars on Face-book loads faster with my Galaxy S then on wife's Mac Book
@TheOne
You're obviously quite misinformed. first the 2 dongles for the iPad are for VGA, SD and USB. The cost of both are $60 total.
Second, What makes the iPad great to use are the iPad specific apps like Netflix, iworks etc. All iPhone apps scaled look crap once you're used to the iPad apps. So unless Samsung get get a library of apps that are good, it's going to be a sub par user experience.
As for flash, the reason the iPad is so successful is because of the superb user experience. Last I checked Hulu runs on the iPad, it doesn't on Froyo. actually it sort of works but it looks pathetic compared to the iPad version. Even apps like Pandora and YouTube which use flash have great iPad apps. the user experience is even better then the web version.
As for the iPad not doing well outside the US, that's just something you pulled out of your ass. According to Apple the international sales ratio was running similar to the iPhone. I'd guess that means it's selling well.
On a final note. There is no carrier anywhere in the world that offers both iphone and Android contract phones where Android outsells the iPhone. I say Android as a catch all for all Devices combined on that network. Even in the US, Verizon is a bigger network than ATT but yet, their total Android sales are much lower than AT&T's iPhone sales. this we know from their current earnings call....
Since you quoted £ I am guessing you're in the UK. It's the # 2 market for both iPhone and iPad after the US.
@jaffreywali No actually I quoted the Euro which the UK does not use but are apart of and I am not in the UK but in the country that is 3 times its size. Look at the com score at growth Apple is leading Google since Android is only just now making its push in Europe after the desire was released which was less then a Year ago Apple has had a head Start of 4 years and has never had that type of growth period.
Now with the they get more internationally really shows your limits of thinking. Okay so Apples get about 55% of their sales internationally so one country accounts for 45% of Apples sales with the other 200 something countries accounting for the rest that is not exactly a good thing.
Here checks these stats out to help you.

Pay attention to that Android gain.

Come,come,come !
with vodafone getting it dont expect fimware updates to come out ontime. or think that it will be the way samsung intended it to be. once vodafone get there fimware on it expect constant crashing. battery drain. and awful customer service
If it has at least a nine inch screen, wifi N, skype, easy to use OS, front facing camera, a fast processor (like the Galaxy S) and a decent price of around £500 or HK $6000, I'm buying it for my parents. I can't wait, they can't wait either.
Other (optional) bonus features I would like for it to have are: backstand like the HTC EVO, OLED/AMOLED screen, Android 2.2.
uhm what are the differencies from galaxy S (except size)
@Formul not much really maybe more higher res screen(hopefully), Froyo already pretty much how the differences are between the Iphone and Ipad have
@TheOne well if its the same res as galaxy S, then whats the point? there even isnt tablet-specific version of android with scaled down ui, so everything including controls will be just 2x (4x) as big as on galaxy? i hope they have that sorted out
@Formul Well don't forget this is just the first version their are 2 other sizes coming out also which I think is actually a smart thing they did. Samsung has already sent out info to Dev to try and optimize their apps for screens res up to 1280 by 800 at least higher if possible.
As far as the OS there is really not that much of difference between what the Iphone 4 uses and the Ipad besides certain codecs and file ext. uses which Samsung still beats them without the need for a App. 90% of Iphone Apps can be used with the Ipad but you have to think of this with the Galaxy you will have native Flash support just like the phone.
So I can look at my fool face book page with out scrolling and play alot of games that cost money in Itunes for free which eliminates the need for alot of Apps will giving you access to not 200,000 but several million
@TheOne damn it really need a edit bottom typing and pressing enter to fast
*Devs
*my full face book page
@TheOne there is quiet a difference in the UI scaling of iPad and iPhone, even if they had the same resolution (which they almost have now) the apps are very different because of the ppi, i think you will understand when this samtab cames out
@Formul Yes this is true that is way Samsung had directed devs to revamp their their Apps to adjust for this plus again since the Galaxy is will support Flash natively the little or 200,000 App store apps is nothing compared to what you can access with flash now you have just open a internet store of millions. My sons favorite site is POG.com which he could not play on his touch or my wifes Iphone 4(which she sold to get a Galaxy S)but with the Galaxy S it was a breeze so now he will be able to play his favorite games at full screen size on the tab
So am I right in saying this is just a large Galaxy S? Don't get me wrong I love my Galaxy S but I'm struggling to understand what market it's aimed at with that small 7" screen. It's too small to really be a tablet, but too large to be a phone, plus if the resolution is that low, browsing is going to be awful on it. And besides they're going to have a lot of difficulty getting people to pick this up unless they can deliver Gingerbread in due course.
If it's coming loaded with Froyo and the hardware is similar to the variants of the Galaxy S now floating around, I reckon we're looking at quite a large update across all Samsung's products, especially considering all those extra goodies like a docking station they've promised us too.
there will be 3 tabs : 7, 8 and 10 " . and the resolution is more likely to be 1024x 600 ( or that is shows in its firmware :) )
SAMSUNG! FIRST FIX THE GPS AND TERRIBLE LAG ISSUES ON THE GALAXY S PHONES. Then bring out new stuff.
