Flash Player 10.1 goes final for Nexus One handsets, available to download now
Google just confirmed it at an Android / Flash event in San Francisco, and sure enough, our trusty Nexus One just found, downloaded and installed the final (read: non-beta) version of Adobe's Flash Player 10.1. It weighs in at just under 5MB, and it's looking as sweet as ever so far. Nexus One owners can hit up the Android Market to get their download on, and we'd highly encourage you to bookmark a few dozen Flash sites just to rub in the faces of your dearest iDevice-owning friends. Just sayin'.

FLASH ME
>.
@NuklearPanda nvm but I'd rather not "Flash you"
snagged it. ON MY HD2 VIA ANDROID. booyaaaa
@angelusp No matter how hard you try, you still look like an ass.
@ishakir I still think it's funny that Google HQ is switching to mac, yet all these anti Apple fools think Adobe is going to drop Apple completely.
They just moved to Osx / superior platform in their own business, why would they drop it.
*logic fail
@angelusp And despite all of that, Flash is one of the top downloads in the Android market. It was a top download even before Froyo was available.
Which means someone clearly likes having access to it. It may be replaced at some point, but right now - I like having it.
@ishakir Huzzah. Before the nay sayers come in for their 20 pence, let me just say: Html-5 + JS + Flash + choice = win.
@angelusp let me help you
NO MATER HOW HARD YOU TRY ADOBE, HTML 5 FTW.
@angelusp
Right because torrents for Mac doesn't exist.
@ishakir
Can we get an Engadget review? Flash on smartphones has been a controversial topic, and those of us without N1s would like it.
@anyop I'm pretty sure they don't have anything against html-5, and never have. You are running off an argument based on the voice of someone else. At this current stage html-5 content is not ready, and I'm pretty sure you haven't worked with any part of the spec as you'd understand that.
But your point is completely missing what this is about, it's giving the rich content of today to users now. Android already has its bases covered for giving users the access to the content of tomorrow through webkit.
@fpad77 they make money from it , if HTML5 comes in, they will make less money, that's why they are trying to push it, but they have to understand: its too late.
@ishakir Is Flash the new target for Apple fanboys?
@angelusp:
Engadget commenteers only care about "free and open" when they're bashing Apple and praising Android. They don't care about "free and open" when it comes to HTML5 vs. Flash. They seem to have no philosophical problem with Adobe's proprietary Web. Go figure.
@Volker
not, but Flash is the new KILLER APP for anti-Apple haters
@angelusp
That is great. I am away from a TV, so I am going to go watch movies on crackle using my phone. Bye now.
I AM LOVING IT ! 5/5
@angelusp It runs well but not as good as on a pc. I would say it is more than adequate on a phone though. I used it during the world cup to listen to espn radio for free worked well enough.
@KarlW no you cant get a review, no body in the whole engadget crew as a remaining nexus 1.
@anyop
you have no idea what you're talking about. The only area where HTML5 competes with Flash is concerning audio & video. Canvas w/ javascript will not replace advanced flash animation. HTML5 isn't about trying to replace Flash (the embed tag is in the spec!). There is already a massive amount of information made with Flash, and all that content isn't about to (can't) suddenly be converted to HTML5.
@HotFuzz You clearly know nothing about HTML5 or Flash. If you did, you would realize that this isn't an EITHER OR thing. You can actually have BOTH and SUPPORT both in a system. Right now HTML5 does not and cannot provide developers with the tools they need to create the same kinds of rich environments that flash enables.
Yes, most flash video should go the way the the dodo. Even Adobe would agree with that. HTML5 does video better, in some cases, than flash... except, even Google, who has embraced HTML5 completely, and who's employees even got quake to run in HTML5, still uses flash for youtube, and the flash youtube works better than the HTML5 version, with better features, annotation, and progressive streaming. I've switched youtube to HTML5 several times, and always end up going back... especially since my videos lose all of the annotations, and trying to watch a video that hasn't fully loaded and jumping around the video completely sucks in HTML5.
Forget all of the other things that HTML5 is no where NEAR challenging Flash on. So no, only in Apple land is it an "either-or" thing. Everywhere else in the world we call "the internet" you can have BOTH. You have your HTML5 page, and you embed some Flash in it when you need it.
And yes, it runs beautifully on my phone.
So yes, Flash is here, now. Maybe HTML6 will finally allow devs to abandon flash, or maybe flash will become part of the HTML6 spec. Who knows. What I know is that it's 2010, and HTML5 is nowhere near where it needs to be to remove flash... and while I'm here, in 2010, I sure as heck want my phone to support flash.
It's called options buddy. Only idiots in Apple land think it's better to not have options.
@Exaflop well said .... +1 ...cannot put it in a better way.
@Engadget ...any idea about the other android devices running Froyo ? When will they get 10.1 ?(or do they already have it ?)
@HotFuzz
Their argument is that HTML5 can't do all the things that Flash can because it's not mature enough. Since they don't want to move away from Flash, it'll take much longer for HTML5 to mature. Apple is the bad guy for having the balls to aggressively advocate HTML5. So be it.
@Exaflop muthfckn pwned!
@Exaflop except stock options... those are ok.
@ishakir All you guys are ASSHOLES! Apple does not want Flash because it runs like shit on phones, but moreover it competes with the Appstore. All you Android idiots don't have iPhone so why do you give a fuck.
@Volker No, dumbass. It is actually another excuse for the droid fanboys to throw mud at the precious iPhone. You mark my words though, Google turning more evil than either Microsoft and Apple. Microsoft can kill other companies with their Windows monopoly. Apple are the mean bastards that don't invite you to their party. Google knows everything about you, and they are going to profit from it by selling your private data.
@ishakir Oh hey look! An update to 10.1.92.8 that didn't take long :P
@njsrikar they already have it just the other phones with Froyo have 10.1 beta 3 witch already works pretty damn nice
@HotFuzz
Sadly once again the Apple fanboys miss the key relevant details.
The problem is not that something is or isn't open but the fact that the choice is not. I should be at liberty to be as "tasteless" as I want. Neither Steve Jobs nor Richard Stallman should be able to tell me what I can do or what stuff I can run. When it comes to my own personal property, those decisions should rest with me alone.
The fact that an Apple device won't allow me to install the software of my own choosing or Free Software is far more significant than individual choices regarding browser plugins.
The 1985 Apple commercial was truely ironic.
@MosesusedaniPad
Apple are the bad guys for fooling you and the rest of the iPhone nation. HTML5 is cool, but doesn't offer any type of copyright protection for some protected content. Steve Jobs knows this. He wants everyone to abandon the protection Flash provides, and instead use his closed content delivery systems and store so he can profit from the lack of content protection.
He also doesn't want you to use the really good web based apps like Picknik because he can't compete or profit from them either. He's setting you guys up to be fleeced, and he claims Flash can't be done well on a phone, but Nokia has done it for 3 years now, and Android looks just fine as well.
@iPhone 4 yOUR a dumb ass..I have an iphone 4 and frash runs so good on it..Keep drinking your crApple juice...
@christexaport You are right about flash being a competitive threat to the iTunes store and the Appstore. That is why Apple does not want it on its iOS platform. It is obvious and no one is denying that.
You are wrong about phones running flash. They can run it but not very well. Probably kills the battery too.
@anotherworld You have an iPhone 4 and you are running Flash? Did I miss something here? I thought it could not run Flash!
I saw a demo on YouTube of one of the latest Droid phones running Flash. It was not running at full speed, but it kept chugging along. No doubt that eventually we will get quad-core 3 ghz snapdragons. And flash will run like on PCs. My point is that it runs badly on most phones out now except on your jail broken iPhone 4.
inb4 shitstorm of apple fanboys
@wirezd FLASH SUCKS
@wirezd
Don't worry, we have Frash now. Just trying to figure out a use for it..
@rmbrown09
this ones is easy guys let me do it..
YOU suck!
@wirezd Don't feed the fanboys!
@Almo Because it barely works. Bleh.
@Almo Videos, Game, Tools, RIAs, more?
@wirezd
Except Apple Supporters/Fanboys DO NOT CARE.
The only ones who have EVER cared about this whole flash shit is you phandroids.
That's the truth of the matter. Stop making a big deal out of nothing. People who buy an iPhone KNOW WHAT THEY ARE GETTING.
I knew that Flash wasn't on the phone and guess what ? It doesn't matter to me.
There was a time when NO PHONE had flash....no one was bitching then were they?
@BrookLynnsFinest
Hey you are back trolling? How many bans did you had till now ?
@nooruls143
Two.
@BrookLynnsFinest
yeah, that huge ass letter google wrote saying why html5 was shit and wasnt on their system just proves it... wait.. that was steve jobs bitching over flash!!!
go figure...
@HoldenMccrotch Yup exactly.... That's why YouTube mobile is switched to html5 right?
@BrookLynnsFinest I sold my iPad today because I realized one thing. My Evo does everything it does, and has access to the entire web. The iPad was my first Apple product, and if it stays closed like this will be my last.
I tried frash, it definitely helps but doesn't do as much as the official flash on my Evo.
@wirezd
No, just a shitstorm of Android fanboys here.
.
@ rmbrown09
Flash has became the industry standard for rich media. If anyone don't like it, go back to your static camp. Flash is a standard part of the web, any devices not capable of displaying it is weak, old, or just slow. Please learn how to developed a website properly before commenting how flash suck. Even if you're a developer and stated such a comments, you fail to do it properly.
