Vodafone launches R201 mobile WiFi hotspot in the UK, Three shrugs
Vodafone's no stranger to the mobile broadband scene, but until now, British road warriors have had to rely on Three for a mobile WiFi hotspot solution. Enter the R201 modem -- just as we heard in our exclusive leak last month, said device from Huawei can host a party of up to five WiFi devices, and it'll do HSDPA 7.2 Mbps plus HSUPA 5.76 Mbps for up to four hours on a single charge. Sadly, there's no pay-and-go option just yet, so buyers will have to live under Vodafone's roof for 18 months with a choice of three room sizes: £15 ($23.51), £20 ($31.34) or £25 ($39.18) for 3GB, 4GB and 5GB (with free device) of monthly bandwidth, respectively. It sure is a fair bit of investment here, so before you hit the buy button, be sure to keep an eye out for our forthcoming review later this week.
Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi Launches in the UK
* Up to five people can simultaneously access Vodafone's network through a single mobile broadband connection
Vodafone UK has launched the Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi (R201), a mobile broadband device that allows up to five people to simultaneously connect to the internet over the Vodafone network.
Available free on a £25, 18 month price plan including 5GB of mobile data, the new device makes it possible for Wi-Fi enabled products, such as laptops and tablet PCs, games consoles and music players, to simultaneously access to the internet through a single Vodafone mobile broadband connection, making it ideal for staying connected on the move.
The device is designed to be easy to set up and use, incorporating a display screen to provide information about the type and strength of signal available, Wi-Fi connectivity and battery life.
Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi also gives customers great flexibility when it comes to connecting to the Vodafone network, giving them a choice of using either USB or Wi-Fi to get online. Connecting over Wi-Fi allows users to position the device in order to maximise the available Mobile Broadband signal, giving them the freedom to work anywhere within range of the Wi-Fi connection.
Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi offers users a great performance over the Vodafone's reliable mobile network and also has the capacity to support up to 32GB Micro SD memory cards, which can be purchased separately.

No comments??? I have to say, Vodafone gets an A for design, this this looks sweet!
Vodafone are expensive compared to Three. 5GB of mobile broadband costs me £7.50 per month ($11.64) and I bought the new Huawei E585 Mi-Fi with OLED display for £39.99 ($62). I'm happy with the service and the speed- I consistently get around 3-4Mbps and in the 2 and a bit years with them I've never been without service, except for 2 days when they were doing network upgrades to the masts in my area.
Three's mobile broadband is excellent, pay £15 for 3GB and it's valid for 3 months. In my experience, unless you're streaming content, this is more than enough. I think 3GB a month is overkill. It's always managed to provide great speed in every location I've tried, even when O2 and vodafone have poor signal.
