One of the following just occurred today: either a GameStop employee just spilled the beans on an upcoming Sony announcement, or someone in the retailer's IT department has a cruel sense of humor. At any rate,
IGN spotted a listing today (since removed) for a slim PlayStation 3 with 160GB of storage, purported to be shipping today for $299.99. That's unfortunately not the case, but while we'd wager a capacity increase is inevitable, it'd be infinitely more intriguing if that new hard drive came part and parcel with a pallette swap --
something in white, perhaps. Hey, we can dream. It might be worth noting that Sony's got a press conference lined up at
GamesCom for mid-afternoon ET tomorrow; we'll keep our German-trained ear to the ground, just in case.
Update: Newegg is now showing

Since when has an xbox 360 ever been quieter than a PS3? and you can still easily upgrade the hard drive on the ps3 as well as have free online gameplay. So in my opinion the tables haven't turned yet.

the slim models have a new more energy efficient processor in side them now, my PS3 literally doesnt make a noise... unlike my very noisy fat model

Come on man, for PS3 you might pay "more", but that's because you are getting more stuff out of the box.
Little stuff to put the 360 at the level of PS3 can make the 360 very expensive.
Stuff like batteries, WiFi adapter(to older 360), HD DVD add-on (which PS3 has built-in and better)
@2FR35H The tables haven't been turned since xbox has always been better, and now that it comes OUT OF THE BOX with 250 and the new one is quieter idiot, "since when" implies you are talking about old xboxes, which aren't quieter, but that's seriously a non-issue for either

Okay I'm guess I'm high. How is 160GB an increase in size when there's already a 250GB version?
Now if it's one of those "the increase brings the base model up from 120GB and the 250GB will be replaced with a 320GB version" then okay, I get it now.

Let's not forget that (following the model of past updates) that ontop of not playing ps2 games, this model doesn't play ps3 games! Just another way sony is proactively protecting you.
I upgraded my old 40G to 320G, that's pretty easy, cost is below $50
