Leadtek AMOR8210 videophone makes US debut at CES

Even though we're still not convinced we'd ever need a videophone, we'd be remiss if we neglected to tell you that the kids from Leadtek have announced the US launch of the AMOR8210. Already making a pretty big splash in Taiwan, this bad boy features a cordless handset, VoIP and plain ol' telephone support (via respective RJ45 and RJ11 ports), widgets (including audio and video players) and integration with surveillance and health monitoring devices. Pretty, pretty, pretty good, if you ask us. Interested? PR after the break.

Leadtek will launch its latest multimedia videophone - AMOR8210 - at CES 2011

Taipei, Taiwan, Jan 3, 2011-Leadtek Research Inc., known globally for multimedia telecommunication total solutions and extreme cloud computing technology development, is pleased to invite you to our booth at the Hilton Ballroom - 52004 during CES 2011, from January 6 to January 9, 2011. Leadtek will be launching the latest multimedia videophone - AMOR8210 in the USA. AMOR8210 has already been launched successfully in Taiwan by ChungHwa Telecom (NYSE: CHT) and received rave reviews. Leadtek will demonstrate AMOR8210's unique features, including tight integration with surveillance systems and health monitoring devices (e.g. blood pressure monitor).

AMOR8210 has different features for the home or office, which includes communication, information, entertainment, health care, security surveillance, media player, 3-way video conference, photo sharing during the call, call and location base service (LBS) integration.

AMOR8210 features a seven-inch, high-resolution touch screen. The housing has a built-in battery and wireless communication function that can be separated from the cradle for tablet-like manipulation. Its DECT handset allows users to make in-room phone calls without a cord. Connecting networking wires and traditional phone lines to RJ45 and RJ11 Ports behind the cradle allows VoIP and PSTN phone calls to be made in an easy-to-use manner.

Leadtek also works with ChungHwa Telecom to provide multimedia services. The Cloud Services consist of video and audio telephony, weather forecast, public transportation timetable, patient registration, medical care, SMS, taxi booking, video recorder, Internet radio, multi-media and music playback. Other telecoms also integrate AMOR8210 and NSC3622-SIP based PTZ IP Camera into IMS systems to benefit video telephony, remote telecare, video surveillance and 3G interoperability for SMEs and home markets. For example, AMOR8210 features a reed switch to offer a video surveillance application for security enhancement. It receives a signal from the reed switch and starts to record video when the reed switch is triggered by a burglary. It also simultaneously streams video to a backend storage server as well as sends an SMS message to the head of the household's mobile. Users can use the 3G mobile to call the server to review the recorded video or make a video call to AMOR8210 for real time monitoring. All of above applications will be demonstrated at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.
