It's been a few months since UK TV operator Sky added remote control features to its iPad app, and now there's a similar refresh for the iPhone and iPod touch. The v4.2 update gives users brings remote control with support for gestures, DVR scheduling and management, a new guide as well as revamped navigation and search on the smaller screens, as long as they're connected to the same WiFi network as the box. The Android app is still without the new features, however they're promised to arrive there "in the coming months." 13th November 2012 – Sky+ continues to improve the way we watch TV by today unveiling an update to the Sky+ app that transforms the iPhone and iPod touch into a remote control, following these features being introduced on Sky+ for iPad earlier this year.
The latest update to the Sky+ app for iPhone means people can now use the app to change channels as they watch live TV, and even pause, play and rewind TV with a simple swipe or tap of their finger on the screen of their phone. The app now also offers Sky TV customers full access to their Sky+ planner through their iPhone, meaning that people can browse all their existing recordings on their Sky+HD set-top box, as well as set up and delete recordings on their planner - all without interrupting viewing on the main TV.
All Sky customers need to do to enjoy the latest extra features is connect their Sky+HD box to the same WiFi network as their iOS device. Sky customers are already able to enjoy the remote control function and access to their Sky+ planner on iPad, and the new features will be coming to Android handsets in the coming months.
The new update is just the most recent addition to the popular Sky+ app, which makes it really simple and easy to find out about and plan great TV to watch. Other useful features of the app include being able to browse the entire week's TV from a smartphone through a user-friendly TV Guide, as well as remote record both individual programmes and entire series through the app while away from home – meaning Sky customers never need miss a single episode of their favourite TV show or series ever again.
Launched in 2009, the Sky+ app has been downloaded more than 5 million times and now attracts an average of more than 1.2 million unique users each month. The app sits alongside a range of leading mobile apps available to Sky customers at no extra charge, including the award-winning Sky Go. Offering Sky customers easy and convenient access to up to 43 channels live and on demand through both 3G and WiFi connections, Sky Go is available across a range of internet-connected devices including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and selected Android smartphones.
