If it's been a long, cold, lonely winter, then the return of the springtime sun is good news both for your mood and your collection of mobile devices. Eton's adding a portable solar panel to its lineup of portable chargers that'll keep your gear juiced when you're out and about. We took hold of it here at CES and it's surprisingly thin, although the battery adds a bit of weight. The solar panel is a fingerprint magnet, but if you're taking this outdoors that's unlikely to affect your purchase decision -- it feels pretty rugged and should take some outdoor beating. The BoostSolar will easily strap to a backpack and once its own 5,000mAh lithium-ion battery is charged, will let you snap on additional units for unlimited power, which you can then push out via its microUSB port. The luxury of not needing an outlet when you're in the woods will cost $99.99, and the unit will be available early in Q2 this year.

CES 2013: Etón Corporation Announces BoostSolar Mobile Charging Solution

Single solar panel enables you to recharge handheld devices and removable battery packs, provide unlimited backup power

(Las Vegas, NV - Booth #30860, South Hall 3 - January 8, 2013) – Etón Corporation, a leading creator of high-performance, green-powered consumer products, announces BoostSolar, a solar-powered backup battery pack for handheld devices debuting at CES 2013 in South Hall 3, booth #30860. The newest edition to Etón's Boost mobile charging line, BoostSolar provides a backup battery for your backup battery, ensuring that your favorite device never runs out of power.

A single solar panel that features a rechargeable lithium battery (5000+ mAh), BoostSolar is a long-lasting source of reliable power, wherever you are. With the ability to fully charge in ten hours via the sun, or in seven hours by way of the Micro-USB DC input, BoostSolar includes a standard USB port for charging any of your mobile devices. BoostSolar also boasts the ability to charge multiple backup batteries in succession – simply snap on a removable battery pack and allow it to charge, and then replace it immediately with another to gain unlimited backup power. With the press of a button, LED charge indicators provide the user with the amount of battery charge left in their device.

"In our mobile society, it is now more important than ever to ensure our devices are always charged and ready for use, whether for personal or professional reasons," said Esmail Hozour, CEO of Etón Corporation. "With its ability to charge handheld devices and their backup batteries, BoostSolar is the perfect solution when enjoying your outdoor adventures to ensure you always have power to make a call or send an important text."

In addition to being durable and IPX-4-rated splash-proof, BoostSolar also features fastener holes that enable it to be easily attached to a backpack for maximum portability and to charge while you're on the go.

BoostSolar will be available Q2 2013 for $99.99. BoostSolar Battery Packs will also be available for purchase separately.
