Zoho announces Zoho Vault, provides a hub for businesses to manage passwords

Zoho's more commonly known around the interwebs for its document editing tools, but today the service is launching a product that's a little more business-oriented than its Office suite. With the newly introduced Zoho Vault, the company's hoping to give business owners a centralized repository where they can easily manage their passwords online -- something slightly similar to what LastPass offers. Of course, security will likely be very important for potential customers, and Zoho says it'll be able to keep a rigorous lockdown by implementing things such as Host-Proof Hosting, a measure which encrypts passwords at the browser and stores only encrypted data on the server. The Personal Edition of Zoho Vault is available now for free and can be accessed by one person, while the Enterprise Edition costs a mere $1 per month, offers an iPhone app and supports unlimited users.

Zoho Vault Helps Store Passwords in a Centralized Repository; Offers Strong Security and Complete Data Privacy

"Host-proof hosting" encrypts passwords (AES-256) at the browser, stores only encrypted data on server, does not store encryption key

One-click login to launch direct connection to websites, applications
iPhone app provides access to passwords while on the go
PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Zoho today announced the launch of Zoho Vault, the secure, easy-to-use online password manager for teams and businesses. Zoho Vault establishes a central repository that offers unmatched security and complete data privacy for companies that want to store, organize, manage and safely share their passwords, online credentials, financial records and other sensitive information. The Zoho Vault iPhone app lets users access passwords anywhere, any time.

"Organizations are drowning in a sea of passwords - both personal and business - because passwords are still the dominant form of user authentication"
"Organizations are drowning in a sea of passwords - both personal and business - because passwords are still the dominant form of user authentication," said Raju Vegesna, Zoho evangelist. "To stay afloat, users have developed poor password practices. They store passwords in spreadsheets, text documents and other volatile sources. They share them insecurely, without protection. And they reuse passwords that are usually weak and easy to remember. Zoho Vault solves these password problems with an online password manager that's easy to use yet highly secure."

Highlights of Zoho Vault

Zoho Vault offers safe, secure password and data storage and complete data privacy. Passwords are encrypted with the latest encryption standard, AES-256. The passphrase, which the user enters to access Zoho Vault, is used as an encryption key but is not stored anywhere on the Zoho Vault server or on the user's computer or iPhone.

The Zoho Vault server holds only encrypted data, and the passphrase never leaves your browser. As a result, the user's passwords and information remain completely private and can only be viewed by the user.

Businesses can use Zoho Vault to securely share passwords among trusted members of their organization, and different access privileges can be assigned to different users. The sharing process has been designed to follow the highest levels of information security and privacy standards. Sharing can be enabled or revoked in real time just by a single click.

To automate the web app login sequence, Zoho Vault features a direct, one-click login mechanism. Zoho Vault users will never be required to type or copy-and-paste passwords to login to websites or applications. Instead, users can launch direct connections to all of their websites and applications from the Zoho Vault interface, without even viewing the password.

Zoho Vault has been designed to meet the requirements of businesses of all sizes and types, including SMBs, enterprises, online marketing firms, web professionals and IT teams that are struggling with shared passwords. Additional highlights of Zoho Vault include:

Grouping of passwords and secrets for better access and management
Clearly-defined ownership for all passwords, with provision to transfer ownership when someone leaves the organization
Provision to enforce password policies
Import and export passwords and secrets
Secure offline access mechanism for passwords and sensitive information
Comprehensive audit trails for all user actions
Two-factor authentication for increased security
iPhone app for access to passwords while on the go, even when there is no Internet connection

Zoho Vault is available immediately. The Personal Edition is free and supports one user. The Enterprise Edition is $1 per user per month and supports an unlimited number of users and the iPhone app.
