Hi Brad I am an avid windows phone fan and Power User. Why did MS neuter WP 8.1 by removing the built in FB and linked-in integration. This was always a key selling feature for me to get converts, with the ease of keeping track of friends and family. Also do you find that Cortana is lacking for Bluetooth headset use? I find her less responsive than the previous build
Yeah, what happen to the FB lock screen pictures?????
From what I hear, their main motivation was to separate it from the core OS because if facebook changed, it would break their implementation and it could not always be an easy fix. The good news, though this isn't completely confirmed, is that with a new set of APIs, it will be reintegrated so that FB chat does not have a delay and can be updated via the store, not an OS update.
If I am the type to not use Google's or Apple's voice commands, would I be compelled to feel any different about Cortana?
Then again, since Cortana is a United States only feature (without a workaround that is), Microsoft may have made the decision for me to not use it
Probably not, but I do like a few quirks that Cortana boasts that the others don't have. One is being able to make reminders for specific contacts, so next time I call them (or vice versa) it pulls up that reminder so it's fresh in my mind.
I also like the ability to use Cortana to toggle settings and open apps (especially ones later in the alphabet, when i'm feeling too lazy to find them).
One of the nice things about Cortana is that you can type any of the commands you would give her. I don't know if that appeals to you, but I found it pretty neat. I'm not a huge user of voice assistants, but I do think Cortana could be pretty cool, even if I wouldn't use her everyday.
Cortana is coming to other regions in time, so you can eventually give it a shot without having to change your language settings!
I'll believe it when I see it though... coming from someone who has been waiting for Google Play music for over 2 years. I get skeptical about international promises.
Nokia has been decent to Canadians, but we haven't got variants of the 1320, 1520, Icon, 2520, or many accessories for the phones they actually did release here. Perhaps the lumia 930/935 will come north of the border- no confirmation on that either.
PREEMPTIVE EDIT: I realize Nokia and Cortana/WP 8.1 are two different things, but they are very closely intertwined at this point
This post has been removed.
I'm not sure if you like 3rd party apps, but CloudMuzik has worked as a google play client for me
I could see the Lumia 635 coming (Telus has been a big fan of the 620/625), but the 930... well, we'd need a variant of it with North America-friendly LTE, really.
Some people are seeing more battery drain after updating to 8.1
Is that something you also hear?
Good Q. Battery life has always been pretty good with WP, but I've also felt that 8.1 seems to drain a little faster than it used to. I haven't done any specific tests on it yet, (haven't compared the Icon on 8.0 vs 8.1 yet) but I hope to get back to you on that soon. Stay tuned!
My friend's 920 had this issue and one of the problems was that the 8.1 update re-enable any background tasks you rpeviously disabled. It didn't completely fix the issue, but it helped to go in and disable them again. He also got his 920 at launch, so the battery might just be getting old. YMMV.
Does any audio player supports timeline seeking in windows 8.1?
I'm very frustrated about that.
I'm not a huge fan of the new music app, and no it does not have a scrubber. I'm hopeful only because they separated it from the core OS and they say an update via the store is coming.
Edit: They announced they'll be pushing regular updates for it, the first coming next week.
You can long press the forward button
Everybody knew that...I'm asking you guys like is there any update in windows 8.1 like regular ios and android?
Is is possible to statically assign an IP yet?
It depends on your phone/ROM. I have a Rogers 920 and have been able to assign a static IP for quite a long time.
I can't see who is online in the messages app, I only have the threads tab. Did that feature disappear"
They removed the facebook integration from the core os because, well, it was broken. I've heard in some places that they will be reintegrating into the messaging hub by one of the new APIs
so, now the only way to see who is online is looking in facebook messenger and skype?
