MasterImage 3D touts 720p glasses-free 3D smartphone display, WUXGA tablet panel
3D had its way with CES 2011, and despite throngs of consumers who could not possibly care less, it looks as if the third dimension will be doing its best to seem important at this year's gala, too. MasterImage 3D has just announced that it'll be showcasing a pair of new panels here in Las Vegas, with both relying on cell-matrix parallax barrier technology to pull off the "glasses-free" effect. Up first is a CMI-rivaling 720p HD 3D display meant for 4.3-inch smartphones; given the popularity of the EVO 3D, we're guessing it won't take HTC too long to snap a couple of these up in a bid to concoct an equally successful successor. Over on the tablet front, there's a 10.1-incher with a native WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution, but there's no word yet on any OEMs selecting it for use on their next slate. We're told that all of the demos given will rely on Texas Instruments' OMAP4430 and OMAP4460 mobile processors, and not surprisingly, Android will be the OS underneath. We'll have a gander once the show floor opens up, but something tells us it'll look precisely like every other glasses-free 3D application: subpar.
Lenovo ThinkPad W701 hints at Core i7 Extreme in FCC reveal
Lenovo can't be feeling too much warmth toward the FCC right now. After Intel and Wistron combined to remove any mystery from its next IdeaPad, here comes the latter with yet another filing revealing yet more tasty morsels of knowledge. Wistron's latest submission is for a "Notebook Computer with Wacom Digitizer," which immediately points us toward the high-end ThinkPad W series,with the W700 being the only Lenovo laptop to sport such an appendage so far. Reassuringly, the new model name appears to be W701 and we've spotted a 2GHz Intel CPU, 320GB Fujitsu HDD, and a Samsung-made 17-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display in amongst the test specs. If your appetite hasn't been titillated already, the only contemporary mobile CPU from Intel that we know to run at a default speed of 2GHz is the quad-core Core i7-920XM, which comes with 8MB of L3 cache, 3.2GHz single-core max speed, 55W TDP, and a truly stratospheric price. We might have a Holiday Gift Guide candidate for 2010 already.
Eizo 24-inch FlexScan S2433W-H debuts, inspires blank stares
When not thrilling us with their excessively ugly HDTVs, the kids at Eizo usually have a relatively benign monitor or two to send our way. The FlexScan S2433W-H is a 24.1-inch LCD that sports WUXGA resolution (1920x1200), a 16ms response time, a DVI-D (HDCP) port, DisplayPort, and a coverage rate of 96% of Adobe RGB. Look for this guy in Japan on September 1, with the PR listing the price as a cool ¥94,800 about ($1,000).[Via Akihabara]
Epson's WUXGA HTPS-TFT Panel hints at ultra-bright, high-contrast PowerLite projectors in September
As a leader in home cinema systems, it's always a good idea to keep tabs on Epson's core technologies as a preview of what's coming up in next generation home theater projectors. Today Seiko-Epson announced the start of volume production for its 0.94-inch HTPS-TFT LCD capable of a WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixel) resolution for 3LCD projectors pushing 1080p. The panel supports a brightness of 5000 lumens (or more!) using Epson's D7 process technology while achieving "higher than ever contrast" through its C2 Fine inorganic alignment layer tech. What this means is simple: expect to see a new brightness and contrast champion PowerLite Home Cinema projector announced at the end of Summer, as CEDIA tradition dictates, with product shipping by end of the year.

Canon's WUXGA REALiS WUX10 LCoS projector notches December ship date
We know, there are an uncomfortable amount of capital letters in that headline, but Canon's really looking to get your attention with this one. The planet's very first WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) LCoS projector was originally expected to be available sometime this fall, but it looks as if those in Japan will be forced to wait until "early December" to indulge. It's probably not a huge deal though, 'cause we're certain you needed another couple of months to cover that ¥1.5 million ($14,823) asking price. As for American availability? Dell quietly introduces 7609WU DLP WUXGA projector
Just a day after rolling out its smallest SVGA projector of all time, Dell has quietly slid a new home cinema beamer into its accessories lineup. The 7609WU features a native 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA) resolution, DLP / BrilliantColor technology, 3,850 ANSI lumens, a 2,700:1 contrast ratio, twin stereo speakers, a lamp good for around 2,500 hours and a whole slew of ports including VGA (x2), component, S-Video, USB, RJ-45 and HDMI (x2). It'll set you back a stiff $4,999, but just think, you'll never have to spend another cent at the local Cineplex.[Via Electronista]
Buffalo pops out 22-inch WUXGA LCD monitor
Nothing much to phone home over here, just a run-of-the-mill 22-incher with a mighty respectable WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution. The Buffalo FTD-HD2232HSR/BK also boasts a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 300cd/m2 brightness, HDCP-compatible DVI port, 170-degree viewing angles and an "ECO" mode that'll save energy... somehow. NEC kicks out 26-inch EA261WM LCD monitor with WUXGA resolution
While Lenovo saw fit to stuff 1,920 x 1,200 pixels into a 22-inch panel, NEC is giving users a little more real estate to work with in its 26-inch EA261WM. The WUXGA LCD monitor is the first member of the newly launched MultiSync Enterprise Advanced (EA) Series and includes a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 5-millisecond response time, 92% color gamut, 4-port USB hub, 4-way adjustable stand and on-screen display controls in the bezel. Furthermore, you'll find down-firing speakers with a headphone jack, a DVI-D input, cable management cover and an ECO mode for giving Mother Earth (and your power bill) a break. DPI reveals iVision 30-WUXGA HD projector
DPI, or Digital Projection International for the anti-acronym crowd, isn't much on pumping out low-end consumer projectors. It would rather focus on crafting beasts such as the one you see above: the iVision 30-WUXGA. As the title so eloquently explains, this beamer packs a spectacular 1,920 x 1,200 native resolution and the latest DarkChip DMD technology from Texas Instruments. Amazingly, the whole thing only weighs 6.5-pounds, and other specs include a 4,000:1 contrast ratio, 3,100 ANSI lumens and HDCP-compliant HDMI / DVI inputs (among other analog jacks). 'Tis a shame there's no price mentioned, but it's safe to assume bargain hunters won't find much to love here.[Via AboutProjectors]
Barco intros three-chip NW-12 DLP WUXGA projector
Here's something you don't see every week: a pair of lust-worthy WUXGA projectors revealed within 48 hours. Shortly after the iVision 30-WUXGA broke cover, in comes Barco's NW-12 to steal some thunder. Dubbed the "world's first three-chip DLP WUXGA projector for professional presentations," this saucy beamer packs a native 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, a mind-blowing 12,000 lumens and a sealed optical engine. For those on a slightly tighter budget, the outfit is also delivering the NW-5, which features a single-chip DLP engine and "just" 5,000 lumens. Pricing and availability are unknown for both, but we have all ideas this is one of those classic "If you have to ask..." type scenarios.[Via AboutProjectors]
Canon develops pair of LCoS reflective LCD panels
Though Canon has been focusing on SED and locking down LCD partnerships throughout the earlier part of the year, the firm will be showcasing its very own LCoS reflective LCD panels at InfoComm next month. The first panel is a 0.71-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) model, which is said to be the "world's first LCoS panel of its size to achieve such a level of resolution." The second is a 0.55-inch SXGA (1,400 x 1,050) version, which can also be used in conjunction with other Canon technologies to bring new projectors to market. Beyond that, it seems we'll have to wait until June before finding out more, but you can certainly peek the read link and attempt to read between the lines.
projectiondesign ships WUXGA F10 and F30 DLP projectors
projectiondesign is a name synonymous with high-end, high-definition projection, and just in case your lofty expectations were somehow not met with the well-spec'd M25, feast your eyes on the now-shipping F10 and F30. Both DLP-equipped units are capable of beaming out images natively at 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA) in a 16:10 aspect ratio, and while the F10 possess 3,500 lumens, the F30 ups the ante with 4,100. Granted, neither PJ is for those with tight budgets, as the former will ring up just north of $10,000, while the latter demands upwards of $14,000. Rock launches Xtreme CTX T2700 gaming laptop
UK rebadger PC manufacturer Rock has a blazing new 17-inch laptop in store for British gamers, the Core Duo-powered Xtreme CTX T2700. As its name suggests, this model sports a T2700 CPU running at 2.33GHz, along with 1GB of 667MHz DDR2 RAM, a zippy 7,200RPM 100GB hard drive, 8x dual-layer DVD burner, and on the connectivity tip, the always-popular Bluetooth and three flavor WiFi. Graphics on this model also promise to impress, with a 512MB-equipped GeForce Go 7900 GTX card from nVIDIA handling the heavy lifting for the 1920 x 1200 WUXGA display. As you'd expect, a configuration like this doesn't come cheap, and will cost around $3,200 when it drops in the next few days.
Sony's Blu-ray-equipped Vaio AR laptop reviewed
Surely one of the most highly-anticipated notebooks of the year, Sony's Blu-ray-sporting Vaio VGN-AR190G offers a lot of compelling features for HD buffs on paper -- 1,920 x 1,200 WUXGA+ Xbrite display, HDMI out (cable and DVI-adapter included), 200GB worth of storage, and of course that high definition optical drive -- but specs don't mean much if the machine can't perform in the real world. Thus we've been eagerly awaiting the first reviews of this 8.4-pound, 17-inch model, and much to our delight, it seems to work almost exactly as advertised. Laptop magazine was lucky enough to get a pre-release unit for putting through the old benchmark torture test, and came away very impressed with the high resolution, anti-glare screen and video output quality, pretty impressed with the performance of the 2.0GHz T2500 Core Duo CPU and nVidia GeForce Go 7600 GT graphics, and not all that impressed with the 2-hour battery life, inconveniently-placed trackpad/mouse buttons, and pokey 1.0x Blu-ray burning speed. Still, the simple fact that you can burn to an HD optical disc at all puts the AR190G in a class by itself and makes it more attractive than Toshiba's Qosmio G35-AV650 with read-only HD DVD, but Laptop still feels that even the burner and the better screen don't quite justify the extra $500 you'll have to thrown down for the Sony.
Acer releases 22-, 24-, and 26-inch LCDs
We're not sure how business savvy it is for a company to announce in a press release that two of the 16:10 LCDs it's just unveiled -- in the same release -- will be made obsolete by key spec bumps in just a few months, but that didn't stop Acer from revealing that both the new 22-inch AL2216W and 26-inch AL2616W will be replaced by HDCP-capable versions during the fourth quarter. Reason being, the current iterations of these models -- both members of the company's Value Line -- lack the necessary digital inputs to support the HD copy protection standard, although that's not the case with the the third display released today, the DVI-sporting, 24-inch AL2434WR. Like the AL2616W, the 24-incher -- part of the Office Line -- features a 1,920 x 1,200 WUXGA display, 6-millisecond gray-to-gray response time, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio, while the AL2216W is slightly quicker (5 milliseconds) than both, but offers less pixels (1,680 x 1,050) and a lower contrast ratio (700:1). As of this writing, pricing has not been revealed for any of these new units, but if you're interested in the Value lineup, we're thinking that maybe you should just save your pennies anyway and hold out for HDCP.[Via BIOS]
