So Engadget's newest pal Garrett M. happened to be very quick on the draw with his credit card after last week's Apple announcements, and picked his damn self a spankin' new iPod (with video). So check out the iPod's unboxing if you're too broke, too cheap, too not ready yet, or too not-down-with-iPods to buy one for your damn self. Tons more pics after the break!

I ordered it from Apple directly through the Apple store about 15 minutes after it was announced. It was shipped from Shanghai, China yesterday and arrived here in NYC this morning.
Has the Ipod craze reached such heights that we need to see it unpacked step-by-step? U guys are just trying to fill the blog up is all I can say!
still too big a device for me to carry around as an mp3 player. If it was 100% dedicated to video and has tons of features like other players focused on videos, i would buy one.
Looks like he's got a thin sheet of podshield covering the front... I can see some bubbles in a couple of these photos.
and fare thee well to other accesories like iTrip, TuneTalk, iBeams, that won't fit the new iPods.
In all truth, the Windows key thing was an accident, but I like the irony now. I took the photos at work, so I was surrounded my Windows stuff.
Tonight, however, when I get home, I'll finally sync it with my Mac.
As far as "podshield" goes, I have yet to remove the plastic film that's on the iPod. I'm waiting until I get home, since people here at work want to touch it and I'm afraid of scratches!

Mine also shipped from Shanghai, China. All the previous ipods have shipped from California.
it looks really weird like no1 said. The click wheel has gotten smaller and looks out of proportion.
Podshield? That's just the film it comes protected with in the box. I only ordered my black 60 GB yesterday. Sigh.
Lweel8--you're right, that photo is flipped. The thinner one is the newer one.
Amazon has the new iPod with video, but only the 30gb version. I don't blame you for leaving the plastic wrap on, until you get something else to protect it from scratches.
Someone needs to do an iPod Video autopsy, and a Stress test like throwing it from a moving car, the Nano kept right on playing Gotta Love FLash memory,.
I had a nano for like a week, these things are scratch magnents.
I'll happily wait 9 months till then new iPod Nano's come out with Better battery lIfe and More scratch resistant.
But $249 for a 4 GB nano
and $299 for a 30GB video iPod is hard to beat.

He ordered it online. Mine arrived this morning also.
Yes the Nano's dock insert is an 8. These are different sizes for different models. They are meant to snap into the new Universal Dock.

I also, ordered one from Apple's website about fifteen minutes after it was announced, and the nice lady from FedEx handed it to me while I was on my way out the door to work this morning (Ann Arbor, MI). Now I have to sit here all day.

Irritatingly enough, I cannot find the new dock for it, anywhere. The people at my local Apple Store said they had no idea when they would get it in, and the Apple Store online says I'll have to wait 1 - 2 weeks for the thing to ship.

Nice, my black 60GB is set to be here thursday morning. If no one has photos of a black one by then I will send some in. I also will not take the plastic of for awhile. I have to decide what to protect it with.
Anyone know if they are going to make a black dock? that would be awesome.
Looks like the top has those razor-sharp corners like my old 2nd gen iPod, which is a shame, as they start to get tiny nicks in them after awhile. I personally prefer the rounded edges of the 5th gen. And yeah, the click-wheel is dwarfed by the screen.

kyle, it(universal dock) isn't released yet. I ordered mine the same day i ordered my iPod, it is set to ship sometime next week.

4th gen Ipods ordered from Apple came from China also. Thats where mine came from last September.
With the elimination of the remote port on the top, you can't charge the ipod at the same time as you use the air click, itrip, italk, etc, etc, etc. Stupid Apple!

The apple store in soho has em in, only have 30gig in white and 60 gig in black. Got mine. psyched.

Oh man I just gotta have one of them new 60 gig units. Gonna sell my 10GB 1st gen 'pod on eBay. Look for it. It will be the only 1st gen ipod out there.
No I won't be using the new one to watch video, who the heck would pay $1.99 to watch last night's crummy TV show? I'm just getting old and my eyes do not focus as close as they did a few years ago. It's either a new large-screen iPod or bifocals, and chicks do not dig guys with bifocals.

#28, I don't believe they will make a black dock, but the docks now come with an IR port (intended to be used with the new iMac remote.)
as a general note, iMacs have shipped from Shanghai, and it is near to where some iPod parts come from. (factories, I mean)

Bratan they only ship from California when they're old. The video's are shipping from China because that is where the factory is. They ship from California when they are shipping from a wharehouse. My original 1st generation iPod that I preordered after being announced was shipped from Taiwan.
