Unpacking the iPod (with video)
So Engadget's newest pal Garrett M. happened to be very quick on the draw with his credit card after last week's Apple announcements, and picked his damn self a spankin' new iPod (with video). So check out the iPod's unboxing if you're too broke, too cheap, too not ready yet, or too not-down-with-iPods to buy one for your damn self. Tons more pics after the break!
Say, is that an Olympus C765UZ? Yeah, were that good. What EXIF data?
Fare thee well, in-line remote.
Whatcha get.
Apparently the nano sez 8, hmm.
Marked diff in screen size, matey.
Whats the best PIN number? Is it like, your birthday?

Does this ipod work with *RealRhapsody's Harmony Technology?

Cool. But not cool enough to change my 40gb iPod photo for it.
#16, Apple spends a lot of effort into it's packaging design, so it IS exciting to unpack Apple products. When I used to work at Apple, the department right next to mine was dedicated to packaging the product. The WHOLE department! They go through the psychology of of opening the box and figuring out what they want the consumer to see first and what kind of emotion to convey. Box material and design were not afterthoughts. It has to look good under store lighting conditions. THere are lots of things they have to consider...in addition to all the requirements such as content safety, shipping size, etc... It was amazing talking to some of those people there.
#153,
how sad
For those disappointed with the video iPod's battery life and lack of codec support, the Treo 650 + the freeware TCPMP (http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about) makes a killer portable media player. I did a little test yesterday and played the new Family Guy movie from SD card (DivX encoded) for 4 continuous hours and still had 50% power left. Crazy as it sounds, I think 6-8 hours of video playback on a single charge is a reasonable estimate.
No need to re-encode your video, no need to buy and carry an additional device, assuming you already have a Treo.

oh. where can i order mine from the internet
I just ordered a new 30gb black ipod. Does anyone know if the sony camcorder av out cables will work with it. they are the stereo jack with three rings instead of two on it so i assume there should be no reason for it not to work. i cant think of a way apple could have made this propriety. can someone shed some light on this.
#156....no the iPod will not work with the sony camcorder av out cables. i tried it as soon as i was done uploading my videos on my iPod, and all i got was audio. No video with the sony cables, i guess imma have to buy the apple cables
P JUST PURCHASED A NEW 30 GB AND I CANNOT START USING IT.THE
DISC WILL NOT OPEN AND THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS ON THE DISC,OR IN THE QUICK START BOOK.
PLEASE HOW DO I GET THE DISC TO WORK SO I CAN GET STARTED
It says on apple.ca that inside the box is a case? I'm not sure if i saw one there but im pretty sure it said so on apple....
Yea, i just got my 60 gig and it comes with a nice coushy case for it, you have to take it out to control the ipod, but it still protects it nicely
I bought my iPod 60GB on Saturday. By Sunday night I had transferred 20 full length movies (from 90 minutes in length to 2hrs) transcoded directly from DVD's to MPEG-4 on it. I have also installed over 1000 songs and 1000 photos. Believe it or not I still have 45GB of space available on it!!! A two hour movie takes up only about 600MB and the video playback quality is superb for a 320x240 screen with 128kb audio stream. Bright and Crisp!
How does the black ipod look on a white dock?? Someone please post a picture of it on a white dock :)
Does it fit the old dock?
After lots of thought and no one posting a black ipod in a dock :P I decided to go for white. I looked at one in the store and as sweet as it would look next to my black razr it just doesn't as good in flesh. More of a matt black IMO (like the razr). But I use it mainly with the stereo (white dock) and car (white transmitter/charger) and the black just doesn't complement the accessories. I do like the classy clean trademark white apple products too just wish the grey scroll wheel was white.
Just purchased my video iPOD a week ago and love it. Video resolution is excellent and more than good enough to view movies. I love the drive space for my audiobooks and music. THis was a replacement for my 15 GB 3 year old iPod. Thumbs up!!!

I just got my new 60GB iPod with video and it is the best thing ever, i believe. I love this thing WAY BETTER THAN MY PSP!!! i like PSP but this iPod can fit alot more things than the PSP. The PSP can only hold up to 1GB and those memory sticks costs about $150. This iPod comes with alot more and only costs $400 in total. If you buy a PSP with 1GB that costs about $500-$600. I LOVE YOU iPOD WITH VIDEO!!! YOU TOO APPLE!!!
Could you tell me if an additional soft could enable my Ipod photo 60gig to play movies? Except the screen on the video ipod, i don't see any difference...
I have a 60GB WHITE iPOD video and love it! Converting video files to .mp4 format is a cinch with IMTOO.
I also won a 30GB BLACK
iPOD video in a contest recently, so I'd like to sell it.
