Pentax Optios having CCD problems too?
Yowch, looks like we can add Pentax to the long list of camera makers with service advisories
in effect for CCD sensor defects. Now peers amongst Canon, Fuji, Konica, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Ricoh, and Sony,
Pentax has officially advised about issues cropping up in the Optio 330RS, Optio 330GS, Optio 33L, Optio 43WR, Optio
550 and the Optio 555. By our count that only leaves Casio, HP, Kodak, Panasonic, and Samsung as not having declared
CCD issues — who's next to go?

Can someone point me to this long list? I know my Canon EOS 20d is safe (It's CMOS) but I just picked up a Canon PowerShot S80 and it's a CCD cam.

given samsung's almost anal retentiveness for 100% defect free hardware, I doubt they'll ever end up on this list, and if they did they would have a 0-dead ccd policy, like they have with their lcd's and the 0-dead pixel policy.

Finally! A reason to be glad I got the Pentax Optio 750Z!

Since only Sony CCDs are bad, we must assume that Panasonic DSCs will be OK as they use their own sensors. Website www.dpreview.com has great tech info about DSCs.. just hit "Cameras" on the list on the top left of the home page and go looking by brand/model.
Sony has roughly two-thirds of the DSC CCD sensor biz, from what I've read...

Okay, I thought I just took a bad photo but I've seen this effect on my Sony Cybershot.
The picture came out like the first image you guys have on this page but in horizontal. Almost like taking a photo of water at night.
It has only happened once - which is why I thought it was a photo taken in the bag - but perhaps the cybershot is also experiencing these problems?

I have had a Kodak camera for 3 years, and it has no issues(besides the battery flap breaking, but that was my fault).
My question is, what is a CCD?

my Pentax s5n has this problem despite not being listed, i wonder if i'll have any luck with a repair?
I know it does because its taken 2 pictures almost identical to the one on the right.

No way! I got a Samsung camcorder with a busted CCD lying around somewhere. Maybe I should just have it fixed 'cause I still have warranty.

I've had a 2-meg Kodak 280 since 1999 that worked perfectly until this year when it finally started solarizing occasional photos in bright glare. Neat effect. I was going to have Kodak repair it, but Kodak now has a repair-or-trade-in-your-junk policy, so I am sending it to Kodak's contractor, United Camera and Binocular Repair, and getting a cut-price 4 meg Kodak still/movie camera in return for $149. I expect it will go another six years, like the last one.
