Dell recalls 22,000 domestic, 13,000 foreign laptop batteries
Looks like Dell is the latest manufacturer to fall victim to sizzling batteries: the company is recalling about 35,000 laptop batteries (a relatively small number) that were sold either separately or with certain models of Latitude, Inspiron, and Precision machines between October 5th, 2004 and October 13th of this year. No injuries have been reported yet, but Dell claims that three people suffered singed tables, desks, and "minor damage to personal effects." To find out if you own one of the offending batteries, contact Dell with the suspect's ID number, and Dell will whisk you a new one post haste (although no word on whether you have to hit the post office in order to pick it up).

#1 - If apple replaced ever defective thing they ever sold, they'd have to recall everything they ever created
Michael @ Dec 19th 2005 2:38AM
Gives you an idea of how many laptops they sell every day, wow.
#3 - We get it, you don't like Apple. Don't post about it, nobody cares.

I believe it's between October LAST YEAR to October this year, according to the Dell website...

Yay. Way to go Roopesh. You want to Apple bash, but you know full well that the same statement can be applied to any manufacturer of any product in the world, software or hardware.
Number one on the hit list? Microsoft, hands down. Learn how to type and spew your truthless bias at someone who cares.

Thanks for the post.
I have a Latitude D600 for work, but the battery I have was not included in this recall.

So let me get this straight. Dell admits to a defect, but customers have to call the company to see if it applies to them? That's the laziest recall I've ever heard.
As bad as that is, I guess it's still better than how Dell is completely ignoring the defect in their Malaysian-made 700m laptops.

Um, according to https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx, affected batteries were shipped from 10/05/04 to 10/13/05. I read it as two weeks the first time too.

That's supposed to be https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx (no comma).

Dell are sending the batteries out via a courier who will turn up with 2 new batteries (1 for free). Then inside the same box - Make the courier wait if your in - is a box to send the old one back. Simply put it in the box and the courier will take it away - simple as that. If your not there then the courier will return to collect the old one.
