The new Inspiron 9400
laptops from Dell (aka the E1705) don't make many changes from their hefty but powerful
9300 line, but
they have a change of heart with options for 1.86GHz or 2.0GHz Core Duo processors in the 17-inch lapsters. They do
come with Windows Media Center 2005, which can take advantage of an optional external USB TV tuner, and the nVidia
GeForce Go 7800 256MB graphics card should do the trick for most apps. The 'books are available now on Dell.com,
starting at $2000, so if you haven't been holding out for
Yonah
for the portability, you can get at these relatively soon.

That looks like the old Titanium Powerbook. I can't stand this anymore.

except this one is made of plastic and isn't as clean looking as the powerbook. It's heavier too.

Where are the Yonah Latitudes?

The 9200/9300 case was never much to look at, but they made up for it with some of the fastest video cards available. Plus having the option of a 1920x1200 screen made up for the Dell logo.
I wonder if Dell will offer the $800 off rebates on these. That would seriously tempt me to upgrade to the Duo processors.
One nice thing, you can sweet talk Dell into selling the GeForce 7800 fo you can pop it into a 9300 system.
It's nice to see laptops with an upgrade path.

I have an Inspiron 9300 and I enjoy it very much, but I was wondering if there would be anyway if Icould trade it in for the new 9400. The 9300 has some backlight bleeding problems I'd like to fix, so is there anyway they can allow me to trade it in?

UM isn't the DUO the Yonah core? I think you mean to say "so if you haven't been holding out for Merom for the portability, you can get at these relatively soon." or "so if you HAVE been holding out for Yonah for the portability, you can get at these relatively soon." Personally, even though the DUO is tempting, Merom has so many better features (ie: 1333MHZ FSB and 64bit processing just to name a few...) that it's worth 6 months to wait.
