MSI S262: Core Duo, carbon fiber, 12.1-inch widescreen
We promise not to hit you with every single Core Duo announcement that comes down the pike, but when the specs are this sweet, we've just gotta share 'em. MSI's S262 is a slim Core Duo notebook with a 12.1 inch widescreen display, up to 2GB RAM, dual-layer burner and a carbon fiber shell, all wrapped up in a 4.3 pound package. From the pics we've seen, it looks a lot like the S260, but with a lot more going on under the hood. No word yet on when -- or where -- this will be available.

I can see Jcee's point. I mean I don't even know what an S260 is.
What price can we expect this to go for?

Objective editorial policy? Last time I checked, you were allowed to post whatever you wanted in a blog.

Nice a MacBook killer already. That was quick.
I'm only jesting. Feel free to drop the "not the same screen size, no price, Windows Sucks, Jobs for President" comments if you'd like though.

Jcee: it's not apple. That's MSI.
I've got MSI S260 and it's just great laptop - light and powerful ( as for such a small one ) , but i see that there is still the same bug in this new version : NO BLUETOOTH NOR IRDA built in! I know that irda is kind of lame , but BT ? WHY MSI? WHYYY?

as an apple user its a bit of a let down to feel like the new apple laptop is one in a line of current models by all computer manufacturers.
i knew my powerbook was weaker than the fastest pc laptop,
but i didnt want to know, or care, or whatever
g4, centrino, apples, oranges.. blah blah
all i knew is my lappie was fresh and yours wasn't
but NOW i gotta know that even though you're still using a system i hate
your laptop is faster/better equipped/cheaper/still not as cool as mine
bummer.
i think the onus is on apple to make sure they have the hottest chip available for their products when they release.
they didnt do that with the powerpc chips, they always acted with modesty
well funk that!
i mean we all know that macs are pussy computers, but lets not go admitting it publicly, eh?
oh, and way to go pissing off intel with that ad, apple. now why would they give you the top of the line processors first?
weird time for apple users, indeed.

What's the point in using carbon fiber if you can't see it's beautiful, shimmering weaves?

#1: I never realised that being objective meant covering every dull release, rather than just being objective about the articles that are chosen.

dull release? i guess the Atech teepee ipod dock is hot news then? please.

here is a Processor comparison chart based on what is supposedly faster than what:
Intel P4 vs Intel Centrino vs AMD vs Mac
http://www.systemshootouts.org/processors.html
I don't know how accurate it is, but looking at it I think the comparrison is pretty reasonable.
When you consider that a system's overall speed is not a result of just CPU processor frequency. A sum of processor frequency GHz, FSB front side bus frequency, on-die cache (memory on the CPU itself), RAM frequency i.e.(speed) and size i.e. 1gb, and the motherboard chipset used, etc. all contribute to how fast the system will be. Considering that the new Intel Core Duo Centrino technology has multi_tasking ability similar to Hyper Threading technology on the P4 along with a whopping 2MB on-die cache, it's no wonder that the Mac is using Intel technology.
My last Laptop was a Toshiba M35-S320 with Centrino 1.5 Ghz and 512MB RAM. It ran all the major applications I wanted without any problems: Photoshop, Office, Matlab7.1, C++ suite, games, etc.
I'm looking at the new 15-inch Power Book since it's the only available core-duo laptop out there that I like. It is aesthetically great, and has a decent graphics card with 128mb.
The IBM thinkpad is too small and doesnt have any great graphics engine.
I'm hesitant to switch to the mac since I like and am very familiar with the PC base. Therefore I am still waiting to see that hopefully in 1 month perhaps Toshiba will come out with a centrino core duo laptop. If not, I'll probably get the new duo power book.
