The 2005 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Disappointment of the Year

Nominating is easy. Just leave a comment as you normally would with what you're nominating for this category (remember, comments must be validated!). You don’t have to include your reasons for nominating it or any of that stuff, just leaving the name is fine.
Limit your nominations only to devices that were introduced and sold for the first time in 2005 (which means no concept devices or prototypes, though we will allow updated versions of previous products).
Also, products only need to be nominated once to be in the running, so if you’re planning on suggesting something, please make a quick scan to see if someone’s already beat you to it (i.e., please don't nominate anything more than once!). Thanks!

The Motorola Rokr
Disappointment of last 3 years by far the Moto ROKR!!!!
The USB Powered Air Darts
Dissapointment due to the fact that you can't buy them anywhere...cept for rare and overpriced Ebay auctions.
MOTO ROKR
For me, it's the Sony PSP.
I camped out outside a Best Buy for the thing, and it has been a huge disappointment. The games have been embarrassing, and the movies are puzzling. When the best thing your system can do is play old SNES games, you have a problem. I ended up selling mine for a Video iPod, which handles video much better, and with no silly disks to carry around.

Sony PSP
Woot.com
Xbox 360
This thing might be a cool console, but in real thing...It sucks.
Then problem with the CD's and the power adaptor.
Its like the thing was still in the beta period.
ROKR, hands down.
psp
ROKR--even worse now w/o the bite of the apple on it...
For me, it'd have to be the PSP. I bought one on release day and still only have the 2 games I bought with it. With very few exceptions, games have blown on the thing and the entire movie on a UMD thing is still a rip off and joke. The ROKR is a close second.
Sony SXRD rear projection TVs, specifically the KDS-R50XBR1. Had one and returned it due to very poor color uniformity (after my replacement one had the same issue).
Motorola ROKR E1
no decent games on th' PSP
Anything made by Apple. Ipods, Minimacs, Maximacs, Medimacs, Bigmacs, Smallmacs....they are all overpriced garbage!
The Gizmondo
ROKR, no doubt about it.
Tapwave going bankrupt, no "Zodiac 3" :(

Easy peasy: Moto Rokr.
Nitendo DS
it is gay
I lost my freeipods.com 30G video ipod... that counts as a big disappointment, right?
The Ipod nano: It's slim, sleek and pretty, but it's horribly fragile and has shown that a case is an absolute necessity if you plan on keeping it anywhere where it could get dropped, scratched or just plain handled. It also lacks a feature that would have turned me on to the nano, despite its fragility: USB OTG.

anything made by COBY
Apple iPod 5G (with video)
My first experience with purchacing an iPod. And although it is generally very good, and I use it a lot, it has so many flaws. For example, its so darn scratchable, especially in that case that is included. One tiny piece of dust inside will leave a huge scar across your screen. Battery life is also abysmal. USB charging, and money gouging by forcing me to buy the adaptor isn't great either. And it often doesn't turn off even when I press and hold down >||. Finally, when I bought it, and as soon as I turned it on, it froze up after 2 min of use, angering me to the point of almost returning it, until I figured out how to reset it. I know that some electonics dont work too great before a battery cycle...but that was just unacceptable.
In general, a good media player, and replaced my PSP as my mp3 player, but too glitchy, and I wish I had waited for the Gigabeat S. So iPod 5G is my nomination for the Disappointment of the Year.

The ROKR
While on first glance we all assumed it would be a turd, all the press seemed to hint it had some hope. Although, the thought of a Ipod in a phone is appealing, the end result is less than appealing.
Hail Hail the death of the ROKR!
Could any product be killed off when any less fanfare?
Motorola Razr V3...
Everyone hypes it, but in fact, this phone is so 4 years ago. My Nokia 3650 had way better functions than that, and that was back in 2003...
The death of Rio, no successor for the Karma.

1. The Motorola Rokr
Treo 700w. Crap-tacular mangling of perfectly servicable hardware with some god-awful MS shite.
"Wow! Windows on my PHONE!! It SOOO advanced !".

The Sony PSP.
It collecting dust as I attempt to sell it right now. Even pirating games isn't worth it cause all the games are rushed and not made to play for more than an hour.
From my own personal experience it would have to be the PSP.
i agree with Mark, the death of Rio was the biggest gadget disappointment for my.
as an owner of the original rio mp3 player, and a carbon, i'm sad that i won't be able to continue with them.
