The 2005 Engadget Awards: Nominate the Game Console of the Year

Nominating is easy. Just leave a comment as you normally would with what you're nominating for this category (remember, comments must be validated!). You don’t have to include your reasons for nominating it or any of that stuff, just leaving the name is fine.
Limit your nominations only to devices that were introduced and sold for the first time in 2005 (which means no concept devices or prototypes, though we will allow updated versions of previous products).
Also, products only need to be nominated once to be in the running, so if you’re planning on suggesting something, please make a quick scan to see if someone’s already beat you to it (i.e., please don't nominate anything more than once!). Thanks!

The Sony PSP.
(do we really need to ask?)
the xbox or the xbox 360!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DUH!!!!!!!!!
I never thought I would say this as a Sony fanboy, but it's the Nintendo DS.
No game console has had a better year for games. The PSP is sexy, but I ended up selling it for a video iPod.
If you're talking about the console that had the most fun and interesting games, it's a no-brainer. I could list them all, but it would be about 15 games, including Japanese imports. The PSP had 1 game Lumines, and maybe Wipeout. Sony needs to get on the ball this next year.
Obviously XBOX360.
I would classify PSP as a handheld...
This isn't for biggest letdown of the year you fool ,obviously the Nintendo DS (and yes, I had a psp.. lumines was great.. but otherwise....)
Sony PSP
It has to be the amazing.. Xbox 360.
PSP.
XBox 360
psp is awesome but xbox 360 takes this award
XBOX 360 No competition
(DS & PSP) are handhelds
Xbox 360. I think the handhelds should be in a different category.
nintendo ds
nintendo takes the cake with innovation...again.
Xbox 360
Nintendo DS.
xbox 360
tho psp is amazing but no handheld can step to any console especialy a nextgen
Nintendo DS
Obviusly the PSP.
The DS launched in November of 2004, not 2005.
PSP
The DS. The only system I play these days..
Why have nominations for this catagory? There's only 3ish possible choices...
ok screw it..
I nominate the Atari Jaguar and Panasonic 3DO.
Xbox 360 fo sho.
Having also owned both handhelds, AND an Xbox360, I would still make my pick be the Nintendo DS. Very solid lineup this year making good use of the innovations of the product. PSP still has the same titles from launch plus about 6, Sony really needs to get cracking if they want the platform to be a success. (And lower the prices of the games and movies, too, then I'd actually buy some!) and Xbox360 has stunning graphics but no really killer games *YET*. So, yeah, Nintendo DS.
Nintendo DS

Enough freakin' said.
Nintendo DS all the way!!!
(Nintendo fanboy)
From games to innovation to wi-fi, the DS takes the cake (and hopefully the award)
The Sony Playstation Portable...period
Sony PSP
Simple.. Nintendo DS
Clearly the Xbox 360. Although some of us may have not been able to get on ( I did!) it is still the best game console of the year. And by the way I am a sony fanboy for all of you haters!
XBOX 360.
Nintendo DS. I was optimistic when they first showed it off..I had no idea it would take off this much with such AAA games, amazing.
XBOX 360
PSP
Nintendo DS no doubt.
Nintendo DS
stop voting we know it's the ds ffs
My SFF computer. Runs all the games available (to PC), is portable, is not controller dependent, upgradeable, burns DVDs, downloads free games, can use any TV/monitor or combo, networks, internet, disc images capatible, and i build it myself.
First of all, stop voting for the Nintendo DS, if you'd look it up, you'd see that it was released in November of 2004, NOT 2005.
Second, why is everyone voting? This isn't a vote, it's a nomination, and the PSP and XBox 360 have already been nominated. Repeating the same nomination over and over does nothing.
GP2X
It's all there, and likely to be better than the PSP this year because of firmware upgrades, open source, modability, and commercial games.
psp
ummm... the only real game console that came out this year is the Xbox360, so how is this a contest? The others are handhelds not consoles.
PSP - of course.
Yeah there really is no competition for the Xbox 360 this year for CONSOLES (as in the things that you cant carry in your pocket).
BUT WAIT! IDK if this counts, but Sega Dreamcast. I remember reading a while ago that they were announced refurbished modles or something. So hah!
SEGA DREAMCAST REFURBISHED
Jon
gamecube
Jon, I was thinking the same thing, including capslock!
I own a DS and a PSP, and have played 360 a lot at friends' houses, but the DC is just so great.
REFURBISHED DREAMCAST!
I guess if it's ruled as "not new" (or some bs ;) then I'll have to vote for the DS.
PS2
Xbox 360
Definetely Xbox 360
PS2- better games came out in 2005 than the 360- Soul CaliburIII(ps2 exclusive) God of War, Shadow of the Colossaus, Resident Evil4, even Madden had more features in the ps2 version
PSP and DS are handhelds not consoles
