The 2005 Engadget Awards: Nominate the HDTV of the Year

Nominating is easy. Just leave a comment as you normally would with what you're nominating for this category (remember, comments must be validated!). You don’t have to include your reasons for nominating it or any of that stuff, just leaving the name is fine .
Limit your nominations only to devices that were introduced and sold for the first time in 2005 (which means no concept devices or prototypes, though we will allow updated versions of previous products).
Also, products only need to be nominated once to be in the running, so if you’re planning on suggesting something, please make a quick scan to see if someone’s already beat you to it (i.e., please don't nominate anything more than once!). Thanks!

Panasonic AE900u HD projector!
Amazing picture quility! Low Price!
Panasonic TH-42PX50u/TH-50PX50U
The benchmark in price/performance for any flat panel HDTV tv. Picture quality rivals televisions at any price points.
Samsung's 720p "floating" line of DLP's (HLRxx67w). They really set the bar for DLP sets.
Panasonic TH-42PX50U. Great picture, great price.
Sony KDS-R60XBR1
I agree with the Samsung DLP nomination, but I'm nominating the more recent HLRxx78W series. Sweet TV!!!
Panasonic TH-50PX50U
Sony KDS-R60XBR1 best TV out now.
None of those crappy DLP drawbacks.
Less conventional choice: The ViewSonic n2750w which came out in Jan 2005, IIRC. Least expensive 27" LCD TV by a recognizable name that I could find, offers a plethora of inputs -- including DVI (w/HDCP), 2 component inputs, and more -- and was less that $1000 then (like $700 now).
Sony VPL-VW100
Samsung LE26R41BDX/LE32R41BDX
As the sales manager for the television department at a local big box store, I can tell you that the Sony SXRDs are hands down the best picture and quality for the money.
Toshiba SED 50". Technology that could replace plasma (thin profile, potentially better picture, no (or less) burn-in issue (at least I thought I read there weren't)).
Honorable mention: Sony 'slim' 55" SXRD
I'm with #3, the HLRxx67w line set the bar for DLPs IMO.
I'm a big fan of the aquos's, namely the LC-45GD5U, their black 45 inch LCD, 1080p capible
One more time, LC-45GD5U
The Sony LCD Flat Panel HDTV KDL-V40XBR1 Its a sony!!!
gateway FPD2185W
pretty sure it hasnt been nominated yet. anyway, great for x360
i say the dell 42" feature packed and cheap
Sony KDF E50A10 - Great TV for the price
Samsung - Their current line is great (ie HLR5677W & HLR5678W).
I have an older HLP5674W (HD2+)and it looks like a million bucks. With Samsung's new DLP for 2006 with LED illumination and no color wheel, should be #1, unless the Sony SXRD trumps it. Their both good. I rather gave "Crappy DLP drawbacks'(see post#8) any day, verse major screen burnin (plasma) and horrid moiton (LCD). SXRD is new on the block BTW.
Panasonic TH-42PX50U/50PX50U
Best selling plasma TV's, stores can't keep them in stock, and the (flat panel) performance leader in any price bracket.
The KDS-R60XBR1 from Sony is untouchable with good source material. Of course it would make more sense to divide this into Televisions and Projectors, as its really an apples to oranges comparison. Those aforementioned floating Samsungs are good too, its a pity the 1080 version uses wobulation...
Sony Bravia XBR Line
Sony KDS-R60XBR1
HP Pavilion MD5880n/MD6580n 1080p Microdisplay TV
