There's not a whole lot to say about the
1GB iPod nano that hasn't already been
said about the 2 and 4GB versions of the same iconic player, but in iLounge's official review of the device they did
note that the screen isn't backlit nearly as well as its older siblings. We have no idea if this has something to do
with a new screen components supplier in late-model nanos or if this is something specific to the 1GB version, but if
you should happen to have a some nanos of various sizes lying around, let us know why don't you?

Bitch, bitch, bitch. I'm just waiting for some iRiver fanboy or Apple "hater" (
daschupa @ Feb 8th 2006 6:13PM
jeez, what is it with Apple and their screen problems? Anyhoo, I use my nano as a flashlight so even if it's not AS bright, it wouldnt be a big deal. Probably would be less of a strain on the battery.
west @ Feb 8th 2006 6:23PM
why would anybody want to max out at 240 songs?
Sean Ingram @ Feb 8th 2006 6:44PM
i think it's geared more towards someone who maxes out at $150.00 and wants a "real" ipod (shuffle doesn't count).
Big Ike @ Feb 8th 2006 6:46PM
The correct number of songs for an iPod to hold is infinity.... When they built it - it will sell (to me 1st!). There are websites with 1 Billion MP3s... Better get a spare powerpack too! :-)
Big Ike @ Feb 8th 2006 6:49PM
Forgot to add ... It is okay if the iRibber and those other wannabes only hold 240 songs... They can be for the MP3 Ownership impaired crowd... :-)

When fashion is far more important than function.
Anyone that cares about function would own an MP3 player that uses WMP 10 which is far superior to Itunes software, is compatible with a Subscription Service provider, and gives you a choice as to where you purchase your music or videos from.
Gene @ Feb 8th 2006 7:04PM
To number 8
ITUNES IS MUCH BETTER THAN WMP10 its is more simple to use and is not nearly as much of a cpu hog with better a hell of a lot better visualizer

I work in an apple store and just got out first shipment of 1GB nano's in this morning. Compared to the other nano's I cant see a difference. Screen is crisp and bright and seems identicle to other models..
Lee Gibson @ Feb 8th 2006 7:22PM
"gives you a choice as to where you purchase your music or videos from"
As long as it's Microsoft. Yes, they have a lot of different frontends, but it's still Microsoft.
David T @ Feb 8th 2006 7:43PM
#11: so, when you buy a music CD, would you say the bands are all different front ends, but it's all Philips/Sony? would you say, in fact, that all the bands that release on iTunes are simply front ends for Apple?
Matt Ellison @ Feb 8th 2006 7:57PM
@ #10: I concur. Though iTunes/Apple may have its small issues, look at the big picture. The iTunes software is much better than pretty much every other media player/library around. As for the iPod, many people bash it, though come on, its the single most successful mp3 player on the market -- most people arent stupid this day and age, and the ipod sells.

Wow, That may be the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. I think my IQ may have dropped just as a consequence of reading those 3 lines of idiocy.

Ahhhh ... Finnaly the Anti-Microsoft comment.
I feel sad about people like you #13. The biggest problem with your kinda people is not knowing what theyr doing.

Bill Gates isnt the Devil, and Microsoft is far from being Hell.
If it wasnt for Microsoft, IT was not what it is today. Like or not, thats the truth!
LIVE WITH IT!
PSPMagic @ Feb 8th 2006 8:55PM
If Apple didn't come along, Microsoft wouldn't be what it is today. It wouldn't have good fonts (taken from Macs), it wouldn't have a nice graphical interface..hell..it still doesn't have a nice graphical interface...but Vista does...and I love it...but it still is Windows..and will probobly have all the security issues of Windows...and just installing it is a pain...
So Microsoft...please do a better job with Vista...and make me want to use Windows...
And iTunes..is for organized people like me. I can't organize music for crap in WMP.
Bryan R. @ Feb 8th 2006 9:07PM
I agree with #5. The 1GB Nano is at the original price point of the 1GB Shuffle and adds a lot of value.
A dimmer screen weakens enthusiasm, but I am not so jaded that I would throw out the baby with the bathwater. It seems like just yesterday that this old geezer was lugging around a relatively big and heavy $150 Walkman that played 90-minute cassette tapes.
Regarding #8 - Although iTunes is my online music store of choice, I also freely choose to buy CDs if need be.
Gouki @ Feb 8th 2006 9:13PM
OMG! People really are dumb!
99% of people user Windows (~), so, what do you think its better:
A) Find an exploit on Linux/OSX/BSDs/SUNs, etc
B) Find an exploit on Windows
?????
Virus:
Spreads for Linux users, who most of them know what they are doing in front of a computer, or, Windows - Used by some of the most stupid people on earth?
Windows is what you make it. Just because its closed, doesnt mean you cant make it any better.
Most of the people that trash talk Windows, have no idea of how to keep it running stable, clean, virus-free, etc, etc.
God damn! I saw a Security Especialist that didnt know it was possible to integrate hotfixes and to silently install applications on Windows, after the installation of the OS.
Read, learn and then think! Only after, make stupid comments.

just kidding.
Actually, I wouldn't want a 1GB Nano, seems a waste of a screen to me, but it's cool that people have the option.
And although I love my iPod (still using my 1st generation 5GB), I would love some competition to really push Apple to the next level, something that would make me finally leave mine behind. And I mean in terms of ease of use, and just the pleasure I get from using it without any headaches. Save the holy war comments, please.
It will take a lot to make me give up my spinning wheel though. I just don't care for the touch wheels.

wtf apel is srrrrrr goo!d winwz is butzxs! linusx is liek so muych beter. I uze mak tho, so liek, yha.
nda! i frgto!1 you can liek qwit goning batsh!t over the whole windows versus linux thing. Each has their application. Windows is great for corporations with ~5 or greater users that use specialized applications. Linux is great for corporations that have ~10 or more users that use generic applications // emulatable applications // web applications, or corporations that have 50+ employees that can afford a programmer to design, maintain, and support their application.
But the most important part of the debate is this:
Windows is better than linux if you have the support. Linux is better than Windows if you have the support.
Because either unsupported is crap.

thats "sex" if that extra "s" as a typo is making you confused...
Oh, and please dont forget to stick your new shiny 1gb nano up your ass too...maybe it wont get scratched up over there, but who knows
Tim O'Bryan @ Feb 9th 2006 2:35AM
I really get confused on why every time an iPod is mentioned, someone is right behind saying how much it sucks because they like their [insert non-iPod here] MUCH more.
Anything that's being said here is personal opinion. This name calling and product/company bashing is absolutely absurd--it makes you people sound 12.

I'm really glad Apple is now making an entry-level player with a screen, and quietly phasing out the Shuffle. This is the first time in 6 years that I've seen Apple drop the price on ANY iPod product. I may consider one now! Surprisingly all Mac users don't have iPods yet and I'm one of them. 1GB Shuffle = $129, 1GB Nano = $149. Not bad if I do say so myself. I might consider getting an extra 512MB flash drive iPod with audio playback at that $69 pricetag ;)

The iPod haters can suck it. "Oh boo hoo, Apple took all my marketshare by making a cool, easy to use, beautiful to look at product. Boo hoo hool."
Sorry guys, but simply put, Apple took Microsoft and all it allies to school in terms of design. If MS, Creative, Dell, Sony, iRiver, et al want to stage a comeback in this space, they're gonna have to stop cryin' and start tryin'... a lot harder. :)
'til then, iPod/iTunes will continue to own joo. Deal with it. Out.
paolo @ Feb 9th 2006 7:01AM
To start on topic, who cares if it's dimmer, the actually nano is so bright, you can use it as a flashlight... (well almost, you can find a keyhole, really easy) not to mention the difference in battery life when putting the backlight off compared to the minimal 2 sec after touching any button.
As for a 1g nano, I have mixed fealings, do you always need 500 or 1000 songs with you ? Most people don't if you "random sync" it every day you should be good, plus making a "must have" playlist of a couple of songs, always on the pod.
I hope it's like the other nanos, 2 slots for memory, and probably only one used, buy a wreck from ebay, and voila you have a decent memoried nano for alot cheaper !
Red Hot Chili Pepper @ Feb 9th 2006 12:16PM
Dudes, I gotta hand it to you, cuz you turned some dimlit nano into a standup comedy feature... really funny, keep going!
I wuoulda put my matters to it if most (most, not all!) of the people here aren't even serious, but just bashing cuz of their principles...
