NEC launches Versa E3100
NEC launched their Versa E3100 laptop today which,
at 2.2 kilograms (or 4.84lbs), is apparently the lightest 14-inch widescreen unit in its class. In addition to
that screen, the system packs your choice of Pentium M processor, 256MB RAM standard (upgradeable to 2GB), a 40, 60, or
80 GB hard drive spinning at 5400rpm, and a battery that NEC says'll give you about 4 hours of juice. Some models will
also include an integrated DVD Super Multi Drive with double-layer recording capability and all models come with
built-in wireless LAN, four USB ports, 4-in-1 memory card reader, and an infrared port. And while it may look black,
NEC says the outer casing is actually something called "solitaire blue".[Via BIOS]

That is one hot laptop. I've always been a fan of NEC's industrial designs. If I didn't just purchase a Dell 700m, That would be on my list.
2.2 kilograms equals 1 pound
Hey... nice and small. Cool. Oh, whoops... one small problem. It runs WinBlows. Dang.
#2, it's the other way around... 1 kilogram is approx. 2.2 pounds.
hmm, i always thought the IBM T-series was the lightest. i thought the unit weight for the 14" model is around 2.1kg. unless this NEC's weight is referring to the travel weight...
don't personally think the specs are that hot... hey, this is 2006, people!
2.2 kilograms = 4.9 pounds

Panasonic Y4 3.37 lbs, SXGA+ 14" screen
NEC still makes computers? I thought they went out of business. Well, I'm sure they will soon.

I saw that Panasonic Y4 being used by a rep from their company a few weeks ago. I'd just bought a 710m so needless to say I was a bit jealous.
Where's the FireWire 400/800? Backlit keyboard? Slot-loading drive? Widescreen? Gigabit ethernet port? It sucks.
Nice one but behind competition :-(
