Next time we're at the hospital
to have our pec implants checked out (we're all saline, no silicone), we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for Panasonic's
new
Toughbook Wireless Display thin-client, which offers all
the fun of a TabletPC without the bulky hard drive or optical drive. Designed primarily for use in the health care
field, the TWD rocks both WiFi and Bluetooth for communications and application usage (with Windows or Citrix), packed
into a durable 2.6-pound case with a 10.4-inch LCD. Built to military specifications, this device should be able to
stand up to some of a hospital's most dangerous environments, including the childrens' ward, the cranky seniors' ward,
and even the occassional
drop into a full
bedpan.
pec as in pecker? pecker implants?
"Pec" as in "Pectoral," you tw(i/a)t. Look it up.
Hehehehe you said pecker.
But on a more serious note, this is so cool. How are they on weight?
Oh, nevermind.
It's SILICONE not SILICON... Silicon is for computers, silicone is for strippers...
What's going on? Are engadget commenters all 14 years old?
In any case, I'd love to have one of these. With remote anything controlling my main HTPC, I'd solve the 1 foot / 10 feet dilemma of controlling MP3's on the main HTPC 10 feet away while browsing or e-mailing with the monitor 1 foot away.
i was thinking along the lines of car computing. having one of these linked up to something like this http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=51&products_id=152 would be pretty cool.
better still, if it still uses the 802.11 protocol, lob your laptop into your bag, lob one of these pups in your bag, go to a spot (mine would have to be the train! ;-) ), turn on your laptop, but keep it in your rucksac (yeah, so it builds up heat and goes POP! Nah, just joking! :) ), get the wireless tablets out and keep the laptop out of sight.
If you get mugged, atleast your data is safe! :)
Another use, since I am a college student and studyig art - and yes, it gets messy sometimes! - , is to have my laptop in a locker at the college I study at, whip out the wireless display and command the laptop from from the classroom, which supprisngly isn't that far! The idea is to keep the laptop in the locker, so it doesn't get encrusted with paint, saw dust, modroc(Ugh! That'll make the laptop cough, I sure that killed my old one! :-( ), Latex, dust, paint and god knows what else that gets sucked up into the CPU and GPU fan, then makes the PC freeze! I wonder if the guys would fit an AC socket to my locker? ;-)
Man! I could think of several things that if I had one of these wireless displays, I could find multiple uses for them! Maybe even controling my desktop from an upstairs office and watching TV in a downstairs living room!

I was playing around with the idea for a more intuitive playlist/controller system for HTPC's before I new these things existed. I thought a Thinclient was the most efficient way of getting a 6+ inch touchscreen over to the couch. Thought I'd have to build one myself. This simplifies the heck outta things. Now all thats left is price and future e-ink version for ultra low-power HTPC remote and e-mail browser. Can someone say virtual keyboard? ;)
