A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

They're fake. It's easy to tell if you know what to look for. Anyone who believes they're real is a fool and is just providing fuel for the photo-editor's fire - good job.
I'm always amazed at some of the posts that make their way to Engadget. I love the one where that guy thought the "click" wheel would stay on the screen while you watched something on it. Or the people who know nothing of digital editing, but still seem to have some uncanny knack for seperating real images from fake ones. Thanks to all of you for the great laughs.
someone didn't do a very good job at photoshopping this hoax. Theres a big fat line going diagonals across the screen if u check out the one hold onto the ipod facing up.

anyways it's fun to see all those mockups.
This device is genuine. The product is ready for release - with a supposedly "scratch-proof" screen - but being held back for reasons of timing. Namely, as many of you have said, people who so recently upgraded to a video ipod would be angry, and Apple knows it.
Look for it to get publicly announced in May.
How hard do you think it would be for Apple to create a "slider" Video Ipod that works the same way slider phones do. Instead of a number pad it would be the scroll wheel.
I would imagine they are showing it to sync with XP because most ipod users run windows and do not own a mac...
yeah just saw another comment about it being different on a mac they wouldnt want to put off mac users or pc users so it changes on whatever one you are on
lol, nice try indeed, but note to whoever made it.. when your trying to copy the shading.. as they have it on the box for like every ipod.. dont continue it onto the screen.. you can see the line!!!

The hoaxer left a clue on purpose, it's in plain view:
The song's elapsed time is 2:16 and the remaining time is 2:09, just past the middle of the 4:25 song, right? But the progress bar is about 1/3 from the end!
Now do a search on iTunes, the song's length is listed there as 3:25. If 2:16 elapsed, 1:09 should remain (not 2:09) and 1:09/3:25 = 69/205 ~ 1/3, as the progress bar shows. The hoaxer deliberately changed the 1 for a 2.
Also, the song title is Fack... Fake.
Man, why is it that people keep making these? The concept of having that big a screen with a virtual scroll wheel is a really dumb one, unless Apple invented a smudge-proof screen. Nonetheless, a decent photoshop.

I do very much believe that Apple will place it's circular interface on screen, where it's being shown in the photo mock-up (yes, probably fake, but probably very correct).
If you take the images here and turn them face up, like a 5G vid iPod, then the controls will be in the same phsycal area.
I think Apple will incorporate a simple chip that can read when the device is vertical or horizontal, and it will adjust the onscreen interface to "right" itself accordingly. This way, you'll be able to use your 6G ipod just like the 5G model, wether your holding it in one hand or placing it into an expandable device.
I also believe that apple will offer a similar approach to it's video. When in the 5G ipod vertical style position, video will flow across the top narrowly. When the ipod is tipped, there will be a 2-3 second delay while the video rights itself to the horizontal position.
The 6G ipod will be the best of both worlds... for video and audio. It's just that the tactile touch we're all used to will be gone. Probably not a great device for the Gym or Jogging. But if you want to take watchable gigs of video into the car, now you can.

You guys take a REALLY close look at the picture that says it is a fake compared to the picture of the 6G iPod. The REAL fake is the one that proves it is a fake. The 6G iPod has a reflection of the middle finger on the left side of the ipod, which is gone on the proof picture. On the right hand side of the proof picture part of the guy's thumb is erased AND on the proof picture all along the left side of the ipod, the shadows are inconsistant with the lighting of the picture. And the click wheel is so obviously flat looking. Plus look at how the colors on the lcd screen look distorted because of the angle it is at, I have no idea how that can be faked.
I think this 6G iPod Video may be the real deal. If not I need to get classes from this Photoshop Master!
wouldnt you need a bit more space around the screen to actually be able to hold it in a comfortable way?

Moreover, it was obvious too that the front of the 'G5' was too sharp...
this thing can be real. i think and hope so...
about the ice age 2 thing, what if its a new feature and that thing is really a trailer..
it just shows "ice age 2" because its a playlist and now it gives the whole play time of everything in the playlist plus the name that is currently playing..

take a green rectangle, and put a screen protector on it. tape it on a g5 ipod.
use mad editing skills to overlay a movie onto the green rectangle at the correct angles, underneath the reflection.
tada! hoaxer video.

I know for a fact this is fake. 1. The guy who made it showed me the psd. 2. He made a mistake, the picture that shows the song playing says that two minutes are remaining, yet its a 4 minute song, and the progress bar is too far to the left

Did anyone check to measure the aspect ratio of the screen? Its highly unlikely that Apple would make a screen whose size is not 16:9, 4:3 or the likes.
If someone could check it out, that may lead us to some answers.
These pictures and video might be fake or not fake. The patent application publication from apple including drawings very close to these pictures is real. Look at the UP patent office web site http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html and search for application number 20060026535, then swich to the image mode. Drawings are very close to those "fakes" !!! It was filed Jan 18, 2005 then it is realistic that it evolved to something close to the current "fakes".
For sure this will be true soon !
