HP adds nx9420, nx6310, nc6320 to Core Duo lineup
HP has added three more Core
Duo laptops to its lineup with the introduction of the nx9420, nx6310 and nc6320 models. All three feature 17-inch
widescreen displays. The nx9420 (pictured) has a four-hour battery and an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, and weighs in at
7.3 pounds. The nx6310 and nc6320 are somewhat lighter at about 6 pounds. All models include dual layer drives and
WiFi, biometric security and 7-in-1 memory card readers.

Enough with the idiotic 17 inch laptops. We need more 12/13 inchers.

Damn that laptop looked sweet until I realized there was a numpad on the keyboard and it was a 17" screen.. damn if that thing was a 14" it would be amazing.

17 inches at 6 pounds? That's almost a pound lighter than the 17 inch powerbook! I want one!

Whats the difference between the HP notebook business line and the consumer targeted pavilion line? And how did they shave nearly 1 pound off the business line 17" notebook as compared to the pavilion 8000 series?

Since someone mentioned powerbook... Doesn't this spec look somewhat like the MacBookPro (Core Duo, X1600, 512 RAM, etc.) but with a 17 inch screen, weight about the same (comparing with a 17 inch powerbook - but a 17inch MBP probably won't be significantly lighter), and has a bit more features? (the biometric thing and card reader) Seems like everyone is just producing the same stuffs with different enclosure and then slapped their own name onto the machines.. Heck, even the prices are very similar...
So now, besides the bundled OS, what's really there to make people prefer one brand's laptops over another?

For anyone looking for a Core Duo laptop, Dell has a killer $729 deal going on today:

I never liked the HP laptop designs with the full numeric keypad... there's something about the offset keyboard and touchpad that seems so unwholesome and (more) horrible for ergonomics.

The 6310 and 6320 are 15" standard aspect ratio displays.

The offset keyboard and touchpad is by far,the primary drawback of HP Laptop Designs

I have a nx9600, with 17" screen and full numpad, and I can say I will never go another way unless I start travelling a lot more. The added weight is worth it, as far as I am concerned, and the keypad is a huge plus. I have never gotten used to using the number keys at the top of the keyboard, and when entering long strings of numbers (ie, a Quark serial number, which is ~60 characters), it makes things much more efficient.
The nice thing about the nx9420 is you get all I love about my 9600, and it weighs 2 pounds less and has a slightly smaller footprint. I'm almost tempted to try and convince my boss it's time for an upgrade!

ive been using a 17" hp for a couple years now. the number on the right and offset keyboart is not a problem at all. with a 17" sxga youll never maximize your windows. when im surfing my window isnt even half the width of the screen, you can easily fit two windows in side by side and veiw most webpages fully(considering you have sxga or better). I keep things like my buddy list and widgets on the right side of the screen, and all apps that im working on towards the left. its works out great, im always lined up with the key board and mouse pad, and keep the number pad off to the right since i really only use the left side of the screen. they designed it this way on purpose

The post about the e1505 makes me wonder -- does anyone have any reliable information about when/if it will be available with dedicated graphics? I need to buy soon, but I'd love to buy that one.

Goodness the 6310 and 6320 would be hot if they were actually 17" laptops that only weigh 6 pounds. It's a damn shame that they're actually 15" laptops.
Dale Ross @ Mar 19th 2006 10:33AM
I intend to purchase a 17" in the weeks to come and will now consider the nx9420 along with the Dell Inspiron 9400/1705. However, the decision would be vastly simplified, the nx9420 being clearly the lead contender, if the nx9420 would also offer a WUXGA screen, as one can configire on the 9400/1705.

Will there be a 14" nc6320 notebook? 15" is ok but 14" is much better as a mobile notebook.

I ordered my laptop 3/16/06 from HP and customized it with an extra 1Gb of RAM, extra USB ports, 1GB smart card, and an Expansion base. I checked the box on the order form, to send it all at once. Instead they sent everyting separtely, the RAM, the smart card, the ports, and the base all arive separately.
The projected shipping date for the laptop was over two weeks from the order date. At the end of the two weeks, I received an email stating they would miss thier shipping date, that the laptop is backordered (I ordered it from HP!), and I would receive another email if it didn't ship within 10 days. Ten days came and went and I sent an email enquiring about that status. I got a reply that they are "still experiencing product availability challenges." I replied asking when they thought their challenges would be resolved. I got one reply that stating an estimated shipping date of 5/15/06 and a separate reply from someone else at HP with an estimation of 4/27/06.
I replied that I wanted to cancel my order and to receive a reverse charge on my credit card for the parts they already sent and charged me for. I just now received a reply saying my HP account would be credited. I called the 800 number they sent, to find out if this was one in the same as crediting my Credit Card account. I got a representative in Mexico. I had difficulty understanding the rep and asked for an American rep but he said they don't have American Help representatives. He did assure me that my credit card account would be credited. I ended up buyig a HP Pavillion dv8000 which came with XP Media Center Edition. I don't mind the OS since it is built on top of XP Pro and I can still use Remote Desktop and do my development work. It is a nice machine and lite and I like the xb2000 Expansion Base. It does hang every now and then and is slow at other times.
