not good i have 15 megapixel cell phone .it has night view see behind of the wall it can also 3 gsm at a time chalu
Manual control and 15 megapixels may seem enticing for this price, but the S500's poor image quality will bring you back to reality.

That's impressive from a proof-of-concept angle, but is it really all that good of an idea?
I think it's overkill... and honestly, if you're taking 10MP photos, shouldn't you be shooting with a DSLR?
It's getting to be like video cards and the never-ending battle to increase frame rates...

Is the UI still in Korean only? The demo models of the 7 & 8 MP phones at the Samsung Experience at Time Warner Center are stuck in Korean only mode and thus very hard to use.
Perhaps your guys at CeBit should ask them where they get the lens block.

Well, I think that this is a bad idea. Battery performance will not be good enough for both. The area around lens is extruding, thus not making easier to haul around. And lastly, phones usually get much more physical abuse then any camera. Megapixels are not a big deal, but the optics will suffer, and the picture can only be as good as the optics of the camera.
Ok so your in the middle of taking some hot shots and the phone rings, oh what to do.....and what no mp3 player buit in either.... what a rip...lol
I am wondering it could be in my hand. Its zooming power is amazing, and we cant evn think abt this.
I agree with Richard, 10 megapixels is really overkill. I'm looking at a mid-range DSLR and its 'only' 8 mpixels. Think about how much storage you would need just for one picture, and how much bandwidth it'd take to email one from your phone: that's gotta be 10 bucks to send one picture!

It's running on Windows Mobile 5.0 most likely, so it has WMP built in.

Ehhh... even if you did see this in the US, it would hardly be affordable. If it follows earlier Chinese pricing patterns, it will most likely cost $1200 at launch- with 2-year contract (which is the price of the 5-megapixel Samsung phone's price on launch in China- but contracts here are about $7 per month for 400 minutes- China needs to start competin in the US mobile provider market to bring prices down to this level(sorry, off on a tangent again) but I am just saying that this phone is just there as a status symbol- the only people I know with such high-megapixel Samsung cameraphones are Korean immigrants (no racial stereotyping here, just stating the facts-well... there are a few locals with these too, but those are executive-types).
A sensor can have as many megapixels as it wants, but it's pretty much useless unless the lens is sharp enough to provide the same resolution.
I hope it does come here. I want one.
You keep the 10Mp pictures JPEG-2000-compressed on the internal 2 GB flashcard and what you can email is a subsampled video version of same. (at least I hope it works that way!)

According to Samsung's head of telecoms, the new SCH-B600 10 megapixel camera phone will be heading for markets outside of Korea later in the year (at least Europe, no mention of the US).

Why don't they re-orient the lens so its length is hidden inside the body of the device? It would be just fine to have the lens be at one tip or the other. The reason lenses have to stick out so much is because they need the distance for focal length. They should use what they've already got!

Maybe I'm the only one who would use this, but since I have an iPod for music, this would be all I ever need! Is there any way to make any of these phones you show work in the US, or are you just a bunch of teases?
This will will be available outside of Korea as of this fall. Europe is confirmed and US will likely follow as well. The idea of a compact phone and camera with a 10 megapixel chip is appealing, but let's wait and see how good the optics are and just how easily it's going to handle 10 megapixel images. You need some seriously fast and big storage if you're going to take lots of pictures at that resolution!

That lens will still take craptastic pictures. What you'll end up with is a 10MP useless shitty photo. Greeeeeaaaaaaatttt. Save yourself time and a few thousand bucks, grab a regular camera phone, open the photos up in photoshop and scale them up 600% and it'll be exactly as if you had this phone!
It's funny when you think about this. If i remember correctly a cellphone's primary function is to make phone calls. But these days people want gagdets that can let you surf the web,make pancakes etc.. you get the point.
Samsung owns 30% of pentax so, this phone is a fusion of pentax optics and samsung quality therefore, it won't take crappy pictures as concaf says.
and yes, I think that it'll perform very well but; I don't use phones which exceeds its purpose. I'm happy with my n6021.
Guys just be happy that you can see this type of technology in your lifetime.Well done samsung.Hope other companies(like Nokia) will catch up.
I totally agree that this phone is useless for 99% of us but is good to know that exists.
p.s.Maybe Nasa should hire Samsung to build the next spacecraft-I bet they will do a marvel.

What I found strange is the contradiction between the marvels achivements of Samsung and their actual crapy phones they have on market.Nokia is in my opinion the most practical phone manufacturer.And it seems samsung are copying everybody(see Razor,Nokia)

Only if Samsung's SCH B 600 10 megapixel camera phone's lens was on equipped with Samsung's Q-1 Ultra UMPC 120gigabyt ssd system computer phone instead of its 3.1 megapixel lens on the back, or else I would have one right now instead of carrying two separate phones! And only they could raise the optical zoom, and have the lens being capable of recording 150 + frames per second in their video/ camcorder mode on the UMPC etc... I need this asap!
If only Samsung could take this hot 10 mega pixel camera phone into a 300 gb hdd or upto a terabyt hdd computer phone with live Satellite TV channel options (like in Korea but have it available here in the USA) from around the world and with FloTV but having over 1000 plus tv channels; and enlarging the optical zoom to the 10 mp lens but having it capable of recording over 150 frames per second on its camcorder/ video recorder mode. That would be so great, or take all of these concepts and combine them to Samsung's Q1 Ultra UMPC computer phone that has a biometrics system too! Which would be so sweet. Plus

... Dude, u see, there is a pretty BIG difference between the technology required to put together a 10mp + bluetooth + 3x lens + mp3, and the technology required to put together a 3mp with a shitty design and shitty price tag.
I mean you guys, you must consider the manwork and technology to put together all these stuff together...
Also, you should consider the fact that very few DiCa(digital cameras) are 10mp... most are 5~6mp, and man, you got bluetooth and mp3 with 10mp... just think about it!
And plus, in Korea the price tag will be from 800~1000 bucks, which will fall to 600~700 buck in less than a year (well, thats how korea is.. =p)
i heard that it has a 8GB internal hard drive.... thats more than enough for 5 or 6 pictures you might even get 10 if you have sod all else... who needs a 10MP camera anyway... whats the point...

They use new Carl Ziess's lens for camera phones that packs higher quality in a smaller space with extremely aspheric surfaces, BUT hard drive used in this camera phone is very slow (for writing) so you can make ONLY STATIC pictures with this nice toy!

You guys obviously don't know Korean culture. I'm South Korean and I can tell you that regardless of how "overkill" or pointless something like a 10 megapixel camera is, Korea will continue to make better and better phones to show off their technological advancement. People in the US use a phone for several years, but you'll rarely see a teenage-mid aged person in Korea with the same phone for more than a year or two. Right now, DMB phones are around in Korea, a technology that will not be in the US for at least 3-5 years, and uses satellite television that's crystal clear. These phones are very usable and are much more impressive than one may think.

Brutal noise is what you'll get. I suggest you do some research on "Digital Noise" of the type created by high resolution camera sensors with the photosites very close together. The sensor generates heat and the sensor generates noise. the higher the resolution, the greater the noise. Modern 12-16Mpixel DSLR's get round the problem by having very large sensors, up to 35mm across. This means that the actual pixel density isn't very high, and so the noise is quite low. The moment you shrink that sensor to the size this thing uses (probably a few millimeters across), you get, "Brutal Noise".

I can't wait to see what happens when you try to crouch down and take that wonderful picture of your rare butterfly you found. You have your brand spanking new beautiful 10 megapixels of cameraphone, and suddenly your phone starts vibrating, lights up with garish colors, and sings baby baby baby... so maybe you manage to just click the shot before it flutters away and disappears forever. How on earth would it be a good shot with your phone vibrating, full of cell phone signal noise, interference from the ringer, and moving around in your hand?? tought shot? no, that's an impossible shot.
The camera on your phone is for taking snaps. You don't need or want 10 mp of detail to mess up your shot. You would have an arguably better shot in the end, with

Actually I've seen photos of their 8 MP camera phone... and the quality just rocks. It's as good as an ordinary camera (also as noise free), but you can phone with it too... or listen to music. The quality seems to be so good because they simply take one of their normal compact cameras and mix it with a phone... -> rather big sensor, electronics and lenses from a real camera.

Yep, It a great multi-purpose device but when you absolutely gotta have a phone. A tough ugly one will still be there and work too. Mine was even uglier after flying out the car window at 70 mph.

somehow people have assumed that because it is 10mp, the lens must be shit. Of course, you need a good lens too, everybody knows this, including samsung.
i would love to buy this phone. it would suit my needs perfectly. the current crop of camera phones simply dont take good enough photos. i have no idea how improving on these can be considered "overkill".
i do not expect the quality to compete with a SLR, but if it competes with compact cameras, then that, as far as im concerned, is great.

But, its natural to innovate a product to satisfy the needs of the a customer and it is good to be competitive in the market. We can't judge it unless you are using it. I am a kind of person who used a different product so i can compare it. And remember this no gadget is perfect! it will only becomes perfect with you...if you are contented in what you have! hope this product will come to the PHILIPPINES as soon as possible because me and my friends are eager to have this phone! have a great day!
