Sony's PSP accessory shots

Naw, they don't tell us anything more than we already knew from what Sony announced yesterday regarding the camera / EyeToy, GPS, and PlayStation emulation additions to the PSP, but you know us: we do love our pictures. So feast your eyes on Gamespot's slide shots from the Sony announcement. They aren't wonderful, but they're about all we've got right now, so say thanks to GS and let's keep scouring the webs for more.

A good question: What enhancement would a GPS attachement do with a video game? I dont see any advantage using it unless it's just for tracking or mapping purposes. Sometimes too much unused functionality pretty much wrecks the appeal of a machine..

It would be interesting to see what developers could do with it, but it's unlikely that any game will be a commercial success if it relies on a peripheral. Additional features with GPS support in a game are more likely.

GPS on the PSP doesn't mean it's only for video games though. I'm assuming that Sony is going to release the GPS unit with mapping software for regular-old mapping/travel purposes.

I can see the EyeToy as a way for Sony to sell more PSPs. When the instructions in a game tell the player to put both hands in the air, they'll let go of their PSPs and they will fall to the floor and break. And then the player will have to get a new one.

Could someone please explain how we'll be able to get ps1 games to work on the psp? Do we have to d/l the games and store it on a memory stick? And btw, they shpuld made the eyetoy integrated into the actual psp unit, if they really wanted to make some changes.

My only gripe is the name... what marketing fuqtard came up with "EyeToy Play"? What's their targetted age bracket, 2-8yrs? Maybe they should have farmed it out to Hasbro. And no, it should NOT be integrated. Show me a pic of you walking around town with an iMac strapped to your hip, and then you can argue that.

As for use in a game: Why does it even *need* to be used in a game? Why not just say it's for showing your naughty bits to your new MySpace/Hotornot "friends that you think are girls..." and leave it at that? Same for the GPS, these are all OPTIONS, it's not like they're built into the unit and increase the cost of the basic unit, if you're not going to use them, don't BUY them. I for one would love the GPS capability. Add in some sort of street map tracking software and a car-mount, and I'm sold. I'd rather spend $199+$100 for a PSP/GPS module than $300-$400 for a "normal" GPS unit that gets mounted in my car and I wouldn't be able to use if I were walking around Boston.

Don't like it? Don't see a viable use for it? Don't buy it.

Sherm Didit, don't be so ignorant. The GBA got an add-on camera years ago, so Sony has no claims of innovation on this one. The Video Chat is nothing new either, GBA has been there and done that.

who's the fanboy moron? I said DS, not GBA, and I never said NINTENDO claimed any innovation. It is said fanboys who make those trumpeting calls. Secondly, I own a GBA, DS, and PSP, but for some reason don't have the innate urge to slam or praise to the high heavens ANY platform. It's the knee-jerk reaction to post things like "Christ, that looks like shit" etc. that I take issue with. And trust me, if the DS came out with video VOIP, I'd be glad. Getting more out of gaming machines is something that should be applauded. Hell, even the misguided attempts at doing so should be applauded.

I don't see the point of the EyeToy for gaming either, and while I love the idea of video chat, I don't see that taking off either. But it's certainly impressive and fun.

As for the whole "GBA had it before PSP" debate, you're all a bit silly to get so worked up. Yes, the GBA did have a cameraphone attachment that I believe cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $200. They were released only in Japan. They were hard-wired over a landline for point-to-point communication. And they maxed-out at 5fps. The GBA had to be plugged into the wall to make a call because the battery couldn't support the phonecam. And finally, it wasn't released by Nintendo it was released by a third-party.

That Sony has decided to released a wireless VOIP/CamOIP(?) has to be considered pretty impressive, regardless in which camp you sit. Will it ever amount to anything except a footnote in some Wikipedia entry? Probably not.

What does the update time have to do with it looking like crap? The update time is just the period between location-checks on the GPS, not the screen refresh or anything like that. GPS is only sensitive to location shifts of 10-30 feet anyway, unless you're running at 30 miles per hour, you're not going to be able to even register movement with faster updates.

I LOVE MY PSP.. but for sure I dont need a GPS nor that Eyetoy thing. It already does the things I need it to do; games movie and music. Even the internet thing was kinda useless to me but thats how life is.

Its funny how nintendo fanboys complain how these add-on will just be more to carry... HAHAHHAA GBA HAD EVEN MORE TO CARRY MORONS!! oooh just to use my own headphones i have to carry an adapter, to use HEADPHONES HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA, then since Nintendo didnt use their brains earlier I see kids carrying a light add-on to play HAHAHHAHA and now that DS has a stylus and play-yan to carry.
