Vista delayed (for consumers) until early 2007
Microsoft's troubled transition from XP
to Vista has become something of a comedy of errors, with leaks, confusing hardware
requirements, disappearing features, and habitual delays having plagued the next-gen OS since it was just a wee
Longhorn. And now it seems that once again our hopes of running Vista before the end of the year have been dashed, with
Microsoft issuing a press release late Tuesday revealing that although a business rollout will begin in November,
consumers will have to wait until January 2007 to upgrade. While we're certainly frustrated that we won't be able to
get our Vista-on for the holidays, we're gonna try to put a positive spin on the situation and appreciate the fact that
we now have a little longer to decide which of the [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Over the years, I've enjoyed the various rants of people prior to the release of an OS. I surmise that that since 95% of you run windows, once Vista is released, regardless of your complaints, you will install it immediately and probably enjoy it too. MacOS is really a fantastic operating system but you are mistaken if you think it's a threat to Microsoft. What most of you forget is that technically oriented people who read engadget make up a very small percentage of people using computers. Try to imagine how cool Vista will look to the average person who's been running XP up until now.
The problem with most of you guys is that your paradigm is so completely warped, that you feel as if Microsoft or Apple needs to cater to what guys like us want or need. Try to understand that Microsoft and Apple may care about guys and gals like us but they have many more people to please before they get to us.
Most of the world isn't running Stardock Windowblinds with the transparent vista theme and so most people will be really impressed with the new OS search capabilities. Listen, Outlook 12 did one think that made me really happy so far. In the Inbox or any folder for that matter, the search bar is there and as you key things in, you get instantaenous results. As storage capacity soars to stratospheric heights, we will need better ways to find our files more quickly. This is one thing Vista does very very well.
Cheers,
Josh.
you are all stupid they are making vista better thats why the short delay
fine with me
cheers,e
Oh you crazy mac fans out there... I wish that all of you realized that at least a year before you even heard the word "Panther" I was running desktop search (google flavored) and widgets (konfabulator, now owned by yahoo). And even funnier than that, is that microsoft was the first to ever announce these types of ideas. Microsoft seems to be rolling out this stuff very slowly, but common, they are out there managing at least 80% of the world market in pc's. Give them a break.
On top of that, the windows live suite of services is incredible. I am testing all of them, including office live, and i am just amazed by the ideas that they came up with.
Let me just say that Apple is not the innovative or creative company that you all make it out to be. They take some one elses idea, make it shiny (literally... every single time...), and release it early (which is of course planned... duh...). I am using xp tablet edition right now, and couldn't be happier. Here's a prediction for engadget: new OSX tablet edition, released a week in advance, and sporting all very shiny icons! Go buy them now!
IMO, Windows Vista won't even be worth using until SP1 or SP2. Being that the system is completely new from scratch, even with HUGE span of time they have to work with the OS, I think we ALL know that they're horrible bug testers. I'm not a mac-fan, I'm not a linux-fan, but I'm definately a windows-hater. I use Windows to play World of Warcraft and that is all. I have a Linux computer for my work and programming. And one day I'll get a Mac or something. We all have our own opinions of M$, and not too much is going to change them. You either like em, or you hate em. But I can tell you this right now, my co-workers and I are not looking forward to our job sites upgrading to Vista. Windows Vista for the lose?
This doesn't surprise me. Not because I'm an Apple user but because I know someone on the MS Beta team and he told me in January that the delays were coming. He said they really don't expect the consumer version to hit the streets until 2nd qtr 2007. The business version will not hit in the 4th qtr 2006 but in the first of 07.
By the time it hits, will the hardware and software manufacturers still care? They've waited so many months for Longhorn/Vista to arrive so they can capitalize on the consumer rush to buy, only to have their big "payday" delayed over and over again. I wouldn't be surprised if they met the actual release with less than enthusiastic support.
I'm running Vista at the moment, and it's pretty good. Much faster than XP in many areas.
I don't really see the problem with the delay. No-one's pre-ordered, and in terms of what hardware to buy, there's no reason why that has to change, Vista can run very well on the same hardware of a low/middle Win XP system.
I'd rather wait the extra months for a better product rather than have a rushed one that needs loads of major patches right from the start.
You better start saving for the upgrades due to vista needing every bit of a high end system to run correctly. Needless to say the initial release will be an infested one. I would personally wait for the os upgrade till microsoft releases a significant amount of updates for it. Try windows xp pro 64bit edition. The drivers are much easyer to find now as it was released a year ago.
To quote Conan O'Brien, "Who's in charge of Microsoft anyway?"
Buy a Mac. Delight in OS X. Today.
Dual boot to Vista (if you have to) when it finally shows up in 2008.
"Where Do You Want To Go, Er, Someday?"
No matter what you guys say! Microsoft has the best and the most used products worldwide. Mac is good, but good is not enough. Well, XP was released in something like '03. There hasn't been any major function update, just bits and bites, that were SP1, SP2. Well, till date XP is doing fine.
Vista, I believe is going to take over. Its because of the wide use and the countless number of PC breathing on MSware, it gets easy to diss them all.
You know, you want Vista.
Any idea how much an upgrade from XP or Media Center would cost? I am looking to buy a new desktop but was holding out till vista. Can't wait till January now
How appropriate that the code name was Longhorn considering how they've butchered it.
Sooooo. I have an idea. Every one of you that bashes microsoft should go make an operating system. NOW. And lets find the bugs and how long it will take. Microsoft is trying to make Vista a big step forward, and they should take all the time they need. And just for the record, I don't care what OSX verison you have. Vista will kick its ass.
The most important thing is that I could still plug cheap taiwan hardware in, and have compatibility with any hardware, have unlimited amount of software to install on, and millions of developers out there, I can develop easyly my own applications, use the power of xbox for network 3d rendering, enjoy working in 3D studio MAX... ok, I can play games also...
I dont need calculator with fancy interface the mac is. It can boot windows... so what, I'm not gona pay triple the price of a PC for something that just emulates it... MAC can't offer ANYTHING I don't have already on a PC!I have 4 PCs, and total of one crash in last 5 years, never had a virus although Kaspersky is once a year on for scanning with newest virus definition...
So why would I need MAC...
I look forward to Vista!
Big surprise. I'm reall happy with Simplymepis too. Linux is so much better than windows vista. Believe me I have tried it. It hogs wayyyyyyy to many system resources
I'll be sticking with my 3.4 single processor for a few more months until the quad-cores come out and vista. Should be a worth while upgrade at that point.

Will someone tell when VISTA is out downloaded in new computer?
thanks
Bill Gates is a shit
the reason for not releasing VISA is because MS got law-suites to give the codes too programmers for free or low cost
Bill Gates is a pig shit.VISTA will run any program, even MAC
