SlingPlayer Mobile available for beta trial
After having received so many SlingBox cakes
for our second birthday, we figured a
lot of you would want to know that SlingPlayer Mobile for
Pocket PC in now available to download for free as part of a public beta program. The SlingPlayer software --
which lets broadband-enabled WinMo devices stream live and recorded TV from a remote SlingBox -- works as a 30-day
trial, after which time it can be purchased for $30 (although it's free with any new 'Box prior to April 26th).
Despite the fact that wireless carriers seem
lukewarm about the new service, until people start getting busted for violating
their contracts' provisions on data usage, SlingBox owners are about to get their money's worth and then some on
those $15 all-you-can-eat PowerVision packages.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

I downloaded the Mobile Client and Installed it on a T-Mobile MDA with Edge network and it works great. This is a must have for Windows Mobile customers. Surprisingly the quality is great on the EDGE network with no modifications to the client default settings.

Anybody know of a US hosted sling service for me to get some HBO lovin in the UK?
I would be willing to pay $50 per month to a company hosting Slingboxes and paying for me subscriptions to the channels I want and offer me internet access to the content.
Any takers?

Would it be legal to sublease your cable tv?...

Unfortunately the Slingbox is based on Microsoft "technology" (read: lock-in) so don't expect clients for non-M$ OS anytime soon. A real shame, when perfectly adequate open protocols already exist, they should feel compelled to pick an inferior, closed system. Then again, that leaves plenty of room for competitors to step in with a better product. I wish the guys at Roku Labs would wake up and step up to the challenge. They would KILL the idiots at Sling.

Oliver, I might have something that will work even better. I propose a swap, HBO for BBC footy. Email me at sling [ at ] patfield.com

LordJohnWhorfin,
"They would KILL the idiots at Sling."
Is there something that we've done to cause such a comment? If you don't like the product, that's fine, and you are entitled to your opinion, but what's with the name-calling?
