White is the new black? What's with all the white laptops nowadays?
Matt @ Mar 29th 2006 8:58AM
On the screen there it says HD-DVD, but it was left out of the specs list.
Lee @ Mar 29th 2006 9:00AM
On the "lappy" comment -- Indeed, how does a tech/gadget writer not know who Strong Bad is? And how did said writer get a network connection in his cave?
Anyhow, this lappy looks darn good... but I'm not so wrapped around what color it is... I say who cares as long as it's a quality machine.

Hey they copied my thinkpad's hinges!
Thataboy @ Mar 29th 2006 9:14AM
To #3: Are you serious? Um, ya think everyone is copying the iBook?
That said, now that 8th-rate computer companies are doing iBook twins, I hope Apple completely updates the look for the MacBook (.... annnny day now, right Apple?).
Oh, and to be fair, this Asus laptop doesn't look bad. Wonder how much it costs.
SRD @ Mar 29th 2006 9:36AM
#5 I hope you werent calling Asus an 8th rate pc company? They are the ODM for the mac notebooks. and were going to be for the thinkpads before they were bought out. I think asus is the best laptop maker for looks and constuction out there.
dogfishhead @ Mar 29th 2006 9:41AM
I have an Asus W3V and I have to say it is totally the best laptop I have ever used. I am a customer for life for Asus.
Zeek @ Mar 29th 2006 9:42AM
They are supplying the 13.3 screens for the next ibook. I'm sure the specs and look of this thing aren't too far off from the next jobsian uh, lappy.
David @ Mar 29th 2006 9:52AM
*pouts* I want it!!! I love my laptop...but it's huuuuuuuuuuuuge, I need something I can carry around without getting a workout!!!
Bob @ Mar 29th 2006 10:07AM
#5, you must be kidding right? Please get your facts straight before you start talking shit. As #6 stated, ASUS is one of the largest ODM's manufacturing notebooks for the likes of Sony & Mac. Their quality and gaming performance are comparible if not better than most OEM's. The only reason I'd get an OEM is maybe for the less hassle warranties.

Can anyone say 'Sony Vaio TR series'?
SRD @ Mar 29th 2006 11:03AM
#11 concidering asus makes sony notebooks and helps design them that wouldnt be to far off. although not sure how old the TR is but asthetics wise this asus design is about 2 years old.
Shawne Beeson @ Mar 29th 2006 12:16PM
This is a Sony VGN-SZ110/B. Check it out

Mr. B @ Mar 29th 2006 1:02PM
That's a pretty nice looking laptop considering it's not a Vaio. It would be so much better, however, if the webcam didn't protrude from the lid.
Roygbiv @ Mar 29th 2006 1:39PM
It should be a W7J instead of W7V according to ASUS naming conventions (as is on AVing.net, the source of the source).
As for family heretige, this one is obviously an upgrade of the W6, adding a webcam, washed in white and added a hundred grams of weight. As for copying the TR, well, I guess the verdict is still up there, since the first Asus with a flipping webcam design (the W5) did come out just a bit after the Sony. But Asus did incorporate webcams in most of their recent line of lappies in pretty much the same design, so I guess calling this family signature would also pass...
SRD @ Mar 29th 2006 1:45PM
Vaios are junk compared to asus laptops. If you want to see amuch better looking laptop than a vaio. Look at the asus Vx1 v6j w2j/v w3v/j. asus quality is way above what sony standards are.
Jason @ Mar 29th 2006 3:42PM
only 1GB max RAM? L - A - M - E !!!
SRD @ Mar 29th 2006 4:09PM
1gig of max ram is not accurate. its either 2 gigs or 1.5 gigs depends if this model has a built in module and if so how big it is. but no asus model has a 1 gig limit.
boe @ Mar 30th 2006 1:58PM
If anyone has any reliable release date info, please post - I'm torn between waiting for this or getting the Sony VGN-SZ180P/C
Big Shot @ May 11th 2006 3:51PM
This will make a FINE MacBook!!! And to all of you nay-sayers, Asus is a Rocking Company with MANY bragging rights; why else would Apple sub-contract them??? This will indeed be a wonderful notebook for Mac and PC users alike!!! Now lets just hold on until Tuesday when they are released!!!! I am getting two, one in White and one in Black!

ASUS is crap !
Why ? Well for last 7 months I'm changing them more often than gloves.
I've got my brand new W3V which had 2 dead pixels and they didn't replaced it. After 3 months a videocard(radeon x600)burned on it. I've got it replaced with another brand new W3V and its power supply died on 2nd month. Instead I've been given a V6V, where after 4 months the same issues started to appear again. Now I desperately try to get my money back but instead they propose me another piece of shit.
NEVER in my live I'm going for another ASUS.
The crappiest computers I've ever seen. Just stop assembling it in China ! Make it 3 times more expensive but make it good quality !
I had Toshiba, HP, DELL and 2 SONY's before. Some of them had some minor issues, but never this critical as shitty ASUSes have.
BTW: I'm 3d apps programmer - so all this mulfunctioning ASUS shit really hurts !
Caco @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:58PM
I now rank ASUS very low after buying and returning a MacBook 13.3" (made by ASUS). The thing was incredibly HOT HOT HOT (unbearable). Will stay away from ASUS from this experience.
RR @ Jun 24th 2006 10:32AM
I just got my W7J directly from its birthplace Taiwan. I'v tested it with 3D mark 06 for 4 days without crash or any slow down. Today I'll start passmark burn in test for another 4 days.
Asus No Use @ Jan 20th 2008 7:05PM
Asus is an overrated company which makes overrated products. Asus motherboards were once the state of the art, a few years back but now they are junk. Asus seems to have gotten too big for their britches. They think they can manufacture poorly engineered motherboards and people will keep on buying them because of the almighty "Asus" name, but the "Almighty" of Asus is nothing but brainwashed propaganda in the heads of mindless followers who buy Asus crap because everyone else buys them.
