Panasonic's DMB-BD10 Blu-ray Disc player coming in September
Panasonic just announced their first Blu-ray Disc player -- the DMB-BD10. The new player includes the
EZ-Sync HDAVI (AKA, Panny's VIERA Link) control function allowing users to control any HDMI connected
device from a single remote. The November release is meant to coincide with the US release of Panasonic's first 1080p plasma
TVs. Pricing has yet to be finalized but they tell us it should drop this September for "less than
$1500." Well, we should hope so considering the Samsung and Sony players are
expected to come in at about a grand.

So, how long before these things are $29 in Walmart? 1 year? 18 months?
Come on early-adopters, get that price down.

$1500? And THAT'S why we're all better off without BD and HD-DVD....

The price actually doesn't NEED to come down anytime soon, and thus it will not.
These things are the "new hotness" for some folks... it's like when the first DVD players came out and people still bought them at over $500 (or much more). So some people will buy them at the low low price of $1500-ish... and I shall wait about two years or more to buy one. Besides, what will the people who buy this watch on it right now?
Or just wait a few months and fetch a PS3 so you can at least play some games till the movie houses start pumping out movies on BD. Just lets all be good consumers and be patient for the prices to drop, all the while complaining just loud enough so the manufacturers get the idea that nobody really wants to pay so much for one of these.
(Though I will say that I've owned a few Panasonic DVD players over the years and have gotten a good 4 to 5 years out of each of them... good quality as far as I'm concerned.)

Is it part of the official Blu-ray and HD-DVD spec that the players must look like they are from the 70's? I have an HDTV and am looking forward to HD movies. However, I'm not touching a Blu-ray or HD player until they don't look hideous.

I can accept the Panny as a more expensive option, since both Sony and Samsung DVD players tend to have fairly mediocre picture quality (compared to other brands like panasonic).

Neither HD-DVD nor Blu-Ray. The future is HVD:
