Sony's VAIO RC300 series with Blu-ray Disc get official
We already peeped Sony’s Blu-ray packin’
Vaio at the Tokyo Anime Fair last month. Now, Sony comes clean with some general specs around their new Vaio RC300
series machines. The line-up will feature Pentium D dual-core CPUs, S-ATA drives supporting RAID for mirroring that 2TB
of supported storage, PCI Express x16 graphics, and advanced DDR memory. Yeah, these are positioned rightfully, as
high-end Media Center Edition 2005 PCs sporting Sony's Giga Pocket and RC Digital Studio apps to view, schedule, and
manage your recordings. No doubt, it’ll be a few months before these
drop, but after yesterday’s Fujitsu Blu-ray
Deskpower TX95 announcement, we guess Sony had to get official right quick like. [Thanks, Himanshu]

"RAID 0 for mirroring"
Umm.. no..
That's striping, mirroring is RAID 1..
Better still would be hardware based RAID 5..
Isn't the Pentium D a little old to be using in a "high end media center" computer? I know it was the best thing Intel had going for a while, but by the time these are released the Conroe chips should be out and those can beat a Pentium D hands down. At least Sony is using Intel so as not to feed the beast, but they could've upgraded a bit to offer true state of the art PCs.
The RC300 preview has been on Sony Style's website for over 2 weeks. There hasnt been any additional news on it since that time (such as price and release date). In internet terms, old news.
Im getting really sick of seeing people whine about something being a week or two old. Get over it. So youre the one pathetic person who has been refreshing a website for the last 2 years to get a glimpse of a new product. Get a life and stop complaining. The majority of the readers here probably DIDNT know about this because they have lives. You dont want to read the stuff? Then dont. I have no problem with people complaining about inaccurate or poorly written entries, but you are just retarded.
Stuwee, you're right. The press release states
"RAID 0 Serial ATA hard drives deliver incredible hard-drive speeds, enabling multiple configurations for performance or mirroring".
I have simply removed "0" from the original posting cause it's not clear how many RAID levels these will actually support.

Travis, why dont you get off your high horse and shove it. Engadget added the comments section for all users to add their 2 cents, and my comments were that this was old news, and a false alarm for those who are actually interested in the product and awaiting more information than just its coming out (which most interested parties already are aware when it was exhibited in Tokyo a few weeks back). I was hoping for more than just its coming, and more about the release date, and the price tag. Unlike you, I did not berate Engadget for posting the old news. If you dont like my comments, ignore them and get on with your pathetic existence rather than personally attack me for adding my own comments.
Your all a bunch of noobs, just because you cant build a decent computer on your own, doesnt mean that you need to make fun of one of the best names in pre-built computer systems.
Its new or old. I'd say, much awaited stuff.
You know, some people's time is worth a lot of money. In the 2 hours it would take to build and set up a computer, that person could be making hundreds of dollars to pay for a warrantied, supported, and (hopefully) well-built product.
As for Pentium Ds, hasnt it been pretty much proved that AMD X2s beat them hands down on everything? (via Computer Shopper magazine)
