Seems like we've been calling this thing the
Revolution for, well, forever. Well, we just got word over the wires that -- well ahead of any expected
E3 announcements --
Nintendo announced the officially truly true name for the
Revolution: the Nintendo Wii (like "we"). Nope, stop calling it the
Revolution, it's not the
Go, either. They're going for that whole
gaming plurality thing that they've been talking about, bringing together communities who love to play, old school
gamers, casual gamers, today's more evolved gamers: "It's about Wii, and together Wii will change
everything." Ooook, guys, whatever you say. And yeah, we'll spare you all the puerile jokes.
even tho wii is an odd name its still da same system as da revalution
Wii is a bad name but who cares, just because the name is bad dosent mean its a bad console
YIPEEE =D
oh oh I know what wii stands for
the Nintendo
Wireless
Internet
Idiots
Oh come on Nintendo i was acctually considering buying one when it came out but now...
well Nintendo i have to say, wii the people of the USA will not stand for it
i say this is a good console but the name is too confusing eg:i'm playing wii when my freind comes over to see my new videogame console and when he asks what the name is i'm just going to shut the hell up!!!!!
DUMB NINTENDO COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess What?!
I've been to E3, I waited forever in line, and it came to me right then! Who cares if its called Wii. Look at all the people waiting to play it and boy will wii have fun when I'm spanking them in Smash Bros. Brawl, or BWii Battalion Wars 2.
What are your peoples problem.....
Its not a bad name, besides are you going to say nintendo sucks because they're creative?
God....
Go Wii
Man that really sucks, take the remote hold it in one hand, shake it, and go for a wii
So why, exactly, did this pop up in the sidebar?
I wonder if they were actually messing with the idea for the "Nintendo Go" before Playstation's PSP.
Trust me, once you get used to the name it's awesome. this is a must buy for every gamer or household.
In retrospect, all these comments and rants are pretty funny. Especially since the Wii did change the gaming industry... lol
Why does this post show up on the engadget homepage 3 years later?
@Ralph23 Not sure - but the comments are funny. Everyone who hated the name probably owns one now.
Talk about cruel retribution! I think the name is one of the many reasons the Wii tanked so bad. Here we are, almost for years later: Motion control never caught on, it didnt gather any interest in casual or new gamers, and all the games that Nintendo released were utter garbage.
I can decide what was a bigger failure; this, or those 'modern' call of duty games. Bah!
What were they, taking a wee when they ncame up with this or just high.
If wii is the best name you could come up with then this should be your motto:
Wii R On Crack
Hey, what's wrong with the name Wii? It actually sounds fun. Like, Wii would play it all WIIK if we could and didn't have school, job, etc. Besides, The name Revolution sounds like the name of a rollercoaster but the name Wii sounds like what you say when you are actually ON one...
Wow... what a time trip this was
hahaha @ Nintendo laughing to the bank years later

Console
Featuring a compact design that makes it a natural addition to any television setup, the Wii console is white in color and can be displayed either vertically or horizontally.
Wii Remote
The Wii Remote is the primary Wii controller, which allows for point-and-click-style gameplay. It's also motion-sensitive, letting you twist, lunge, tilt, and lift your way to gaming greatness. A rumble device and a built-in speaker offer feedback.
Nunchuk
Some games have you attach the Nunchuk to the Wii Remote for additional control options. The Nunchuk features a comfortable, ergonomic design, a Control Stick, and two buttons. The Nunchuk is motion-sensitive, allowing for another dimension of game control.
Sensor Bar
The sensor bar, set close to your television, works in concert with the Wii Remote to sense pointer coordinates.
Wii Menu
The Wii console will revolutionize how people play games. But more importantly, it will entice new players into the world of video games by offering a variety of entertainment, information and communication channels that add value to the console and make it a device that the entire family can enjoy. The Wii Menu will be the first screen shown on the television, as it easily integrates itself as part of people's everyday lives.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with the name "Wii" the fact of the matter is that Nintendo does have a huge kids audience and a lot of their games are just for fun. I think that the name is appropriate and that any guy has a problem saying wii then u have masculinity problems
Awesome!
ok, so whats the difference between the wii and the revolution, r they the same thing or what? cus i looked at the "revolution" on the internet and there black and wii's r white, yeah so whats the difference? oh and thats really retarded name: "wii" i mean c'mon, what if some1 asked hey what r u doing and u go playing with my wii and ur over there shaking it up and down, umm yeah thats kinda weird. so would someone plz write me back cus i dont get the difference between the two.
