Three from HP: dv2000 and v3000 laptops, tc4400 tablet
You could say that we're a bit "lappy happy" today (ugh, that was terrible), as we have two more notebooks -- and one convertible tablet -- from HP to show you, to join the Toshiba Qosmio, Sony VAIOs, and pair of Alienwares we brought you earlier. Both 14.1-inch laptops are replacements for previous HP models -- the redesigned dv2000 (pictured, left) replaces the dv1000 in the Digital Entertainment Center line and the Compaq Presario v3000 (pictured, right) puts the v2000 out to pasture -- with the main upgrades coming under the hood, where each model now offers you a choice of Centrino Duo or Core Duo processors from Intel or the Mobile Sempron or Turion 64 X2 from AMD. Also rocking Core Duo (in three flavors: 1.83GHz, 2.0GHz, or 2.16GHz) is the Compaq tc4400 tablet, which sports a 12.1-inch XGA display with digitizer, integrated graphics, 512MB to two gigs of RAM, 60GB, 80GB, or 100GB hard drive, WiFi, PC Type I/II and SD card slots, and the usual assortment of inputs and outputs. The tablet, which you can peep after the jump, will be available on May 22nd for an undisclosed sum of money (but it's safe to assume that it'll be more than the $1,550 Pentium M-sporting tc4200), while the Intel-based notebooks will ship this month -- with the AMD models following shortly after -- all starting at around $1,049 after rebates and junk.

That tc4400 'tablet' (looks more like a convertible to me) appears to be plucked from the early 90's. I'm beginning to think the new MacBook (when its released) running XP via Boot Camp would be the best alternative to these ugly notebooks we've been seeing lately from PC manufacturers.

Well, I was hoping for a pen enabled Macbook/Newton with fingerprint security to be announced today but this will do. The tc4400 will be my fifth or sixth HP/Compaq laptop... *yikes* Apple has lost me as a customer for another 1.5 to 2.5 years...

I think the dv2000 looks great.

You can count the people who have had a positive experience with HP notebooks on one hand... who knows maybe the "business" products aren't as lackluster as the pavilions...

The tc4400 also has a built-in fingerprint reader for securoty-minded types.

#5: I have had much better results and overall satisfaction from my newly HP Pavilion notebook, and 7-month old VAIO than what i would have had if i had chosen a Dell or any other piece of garbage that's out there so shut up. The entire industry does not revolve around hype-only Apple and cheap Dell.

I just bought the DV2000t and you can find a full review here: http://arajani.blogspot.com/2006/07/hp-dv2000t-notebook-review.html. Granted I'm not that high-tech in my analysis, I hope you'll find a lot of the commentary helpful if you're looking to buy it.

I fail to reinstall a new windowsXP Pro (Chinese version) on the HP Pavilion DV2023TU notebook. After inserting the Xp cd, restart computer, several mins later, the system always show me application can't find the harddisk, please check the setting is correctly configed. But,I am quite sure that the former pre-installed Englsih Xp is working well. I am planning to make dual System. could u please tell what seems to be the problem? The system CD I got is original. I am wondering, it may be a S-ATA harddisk connection problem. Does WinXP pro recongize S-ATA harddisk? I am confused.
