Jobs' glass elevator locks in group customers
Well, that was fast. Not eight days after Apple's new flagship store was unveiled, Stevie J.'s fantastical glass elevator began acting a bit wonky, first opening and shutting its doors, then finally sealing in its passengers on the upper level. Apple store employees worked their hardest to release the bunch, but eventually the NYPD had to be called; the elevator's hydraulic system had to be drained, and the confined group was let out in the store's bowels (i.e. lower level). Everybody otherwise seemed okay, but as far as we know no one was gifted with a free iPod in exchange for the 45 minutes they spent trapped, encased in glass like so many specimens for study. Ah well, you can't always help it when your elevator gets the spinning beach ball, now can you?

"id rather have my apple elevator get hung up than to have the microsoft elevator crash."
or if it was Vista, they'd be stuck in there till january '07.
;)
It says everyone was okay but according to the blog post "two people burned there hands badly enough for them to blister on the hot lights in the shaft."
My question is when will this be on tv? I'd love to see a reality tv type of prank like this. 45 minutes with commercials is an hour long special. Come on, you know you'd love to see it! lol
Wow, that dosent even compare to being stuck with 27 people, for two hours, in 100 degree + tempatures, in an elevator at disney land. All they gave me was free breakfast.
Alot of peope are gonna start going up and down in that elevator all day until they get a free iPod :-)
I don't feel like reading through to see if anybody else mentioned anything, but I saw the elevator being worked on on Friday afternoon around 6. Workers were doing something to it and had it parked at the top.
They look like able-bodied young adults.
That's what you get for taking the elevator, you lazy farks.
/hated the lazy twits at school who would take the elevator up ONE FLOOR when the stairs were right next to it
Was the elevator software working on a mac mini running Windows NT. (New Trapping)
I held back saying it for some time although others have noted it, but this is clearly an anti-Apple site.
Negative headlines regardless of article content
Summarizing only the negative comments from others reviews
The childish swipes at every turn.
I know this site has claimed to be company agnostic, but it's bullsh1t.
I guess this is how Engadget ensures they get another interview with Bill Gates. Way to fall for "the access" trick. At least know my friends in marketing up in Redmond make fun of the organizations who fall for this trick. "A bunch of blogginlosers who can't get laid but have some time with Bill will do as we please" is basically a direct quote from my buddy.
Frankly, I don't really care, except for the fact that this site claims they are unbiased. Just like Fox News, it's pretty disgraceful that you can't be honest with your readers about it.
And as for your next interview with Bill, I am sure your integrity was worth the trade.

willy wonka wouldnt stand for this
@55 and 56
It's a freaking blog! If you want unbiased news read many many different newspapers.
Post 6, Desmond wrote: if this thing broke on me, i'd just kick out the glass and get the hell outta there. (i'd probably last about two minutes stuck in that thing lol).
I very much doubt you could 'kick' your way out Desmond. You have no idea how thick the special tempered glass is on that thing.
Yeh but did they manage to break the 9min breath holding record?
I've heard that most elevators are controlled by a regular old PC... I'd like to see the elevator's control room.
Stuck elevator + explosive diarrhea
That would have been funny
ANY irony for ANY brand's arrogance and unbridled promises get classic pie-in-the-face with nose-rubbed-in-it reporting style, historically everytime here, completely brand agnostic.
Except the repeat offenders with their predictable, exaggerated marketing claims inviting more.
Only Apple itself creates the ongoing targets for such obvious parody, by thoughtful SNL style about tech toys.
The ironies pointed out are just simply funny, any taking offense is paranoid, humorless and highly presumptive brand loyalty ignites ANY passion in others.
Where are Ben-Q and Polaroid groupies, always silent about frequent pokes at those hyperbole marketing styles?
So considering its an apple store, you think the elevator was run by a mac? thats kinda a slap in the face, they never crash! (not) I work in a CompUSA and I have personally had to pull down 6 demos because they were crashing, video errors, all sorts of sad macs :( I find the faith in the mac interesting.. especially with the new intel move changing things so much.
"Whoops... And that's why we have backup systems."
Well, if I were stuck in an elevator and had a choice for it to be any material, glass or something else see thru would be keen.
oh boy, I would be talking lawsuit bigtime unless they gave me a powermac G5 2.5 GHz :)
Incredible... typical Apple fan boys. Now a product in an APPLE store malfunctions, and people blame it on Microsoft. Sheesh. Apple can't ever do anything wrong, can they.
And to the guys who would spend hours in there for a free iPod: you're really poor, aren't you?
Atleast they didn't have to wait till patch-day. But they could have atleast given a shuffle to the victims.
I just had a vision of Steve Jobs as Willi Wonka... purple suit and all (not black tshirt and jeans!)
wth!?! OMFGBBQLOL!!! People stuck in an elevator! That has never happened before!!
Oh wait, It has.
More apple bashing from engadget the page-hit-whore.
Typical Apple rev A wares. High on flash and pizzazz. Low on quality. Wait for the Rev B Apple box store.
I was wondering why the elevator wasn't running on Sat... even people with strollers had to take the stairs...
funny as hell - too bad someone didnt spray paint "PWNED" on the outside of the elevator.
Steve Jobs follow-up to the "Buy a new iPod every year" statement? "Buy an iPod NOW if you want to get out of the elevator!"
People who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones.
Can't believe nobody said that yet.
Funny - when I read the headline I thought the article was about customers being trapped in the iPOD iTunes "once you buy you can never change trap".
The elevator was just "sinking different."
Thats a prime example of the higher power's disgust with form-over-function within any aspect of computer science.
They could have just filled the thing w/ clear plastic and used it for a paper weight.
Well.. since it is glass - wouldn't it be a "windows" elevator?
I'm sure there's a hidden metaphor here.

ill gladly spend up to 10 hours in a glass elevator to get free stuff. notify me at wztalst1@yahoo.com if there are any open posistions in glass elevators :D
